  1. Past hour
  2. It’s less than I can get for it selling to trade - which is exactly what I’ll be doing if someone doesn’t buy it pretty quickly. I’m not leaving it up for ages, I genuinely thought I’d have had a lot of interest - I’ve got the exact same bass in sunburst with different electronics and I paid £1599 for it, these are up with Sadowsky Metroline etc in terms of build quality
  3. Thanks for that Andy, a really nice story. I'd guess that the success of the Ampeg small format all-tube models from the PF-20 through the 50 and up to the V4B suggests that there is a market for all tube heads below the more usual 300w plus, in part perhaps because for example the post power stage DI on some of the models makes them a far simpler gigging and recording proposition? I have to say I'm currently looking down the back of the sofa to see if I can scrape the cash for the 800D, had it been the all-tube model I initially thought it was, I'd be parked outside Anderton's already
  4. A lovely bass this but I’m not playing it much lately and I'm after a Gibson Thunderbird, another SG bass or Precision. Owned for about 6 years now, the bass is in excellent condition for its age, some marks and dings as expected but nothing too nasty. The pickup has been replaced with an Aero Musicmasterer and the thumb rest is also a newer replacement. All other parts original apart from the additional blue tone cap which I removed. This I can supply with the bass but I don’t have the original pickup. It comes with its original case and manual with matching serial number. Also included is a Fender short scale bass gig bag which I currently keep it in. As above, trades welcomed for a Gibson Thunderbird, SG Bass or a Fender AVRI II Precision. Other basses considered. The bass is located on the Isle of Wight but can meet in Southampton, Portsmouth or Lymington. Not keen on shipping. Thanks, Dan
  5. Mowing The Seeds Of Love - Tears For Fears
  6. Sort of easy to miss....you know.
  7. Another good question, nothing is off the table and personally it's something that I would like to do... in part to honor my dad's memory since he started his engineering career during the (all) tube era designing servo amplifiers (which are similar to audio amplifiers). He then went on to handle spacecraft attitude control on the Mariner Mars project which allowed him to step away from strictly hardware design and into the control systems side of servo theory. My dad passed away 2 years ago at the age of 90, this model was the last amp that he provided his insight on (he remained interested in engineering and math until his death). It's also why I followed in his engineering footsteps at university. I wouldn't rule this out either, but there's nothing immediate on the table either. I'm always open to hearing what YOU PLAYERS would like to see, sometimes that's what provides the impetus for new projects.
  8. It’s a great excuse to dress up, if that’s your thing. I still have my white jacket that I rolled up the sleeves of. Then came the jacket that you see in my avatar.
  9. I've been on a bit of a journey with my Euro. I have taken the tonepump out and added an LHZ3 in. I took the pair of EMG TWs out and added in a EMG 40p5 and a 40J, essentially trying to turn a 5 string euro into a classic split p + J 1980s NS. Only issue has been...EMG. The first attempt had a p5 where the width of the magnets didn't cover the G. As such the G is weak sounding and bad to play. I tried a second EMGP5...same problem. Have any of you experienced this? The other issue is that the 40J is....quiet. notably less output than the 40P5. I'm not running a blend pot. It's two seperate volumes. But I'm having to ballpark a blend by rolling off the p5 because it just bullies the J. And I hate doing that. Just feels like it's not working as it was meant to. Have any of you experienced a quiet J? I've had two of them. Both quiet. Lastly, I'm abandoning the P5 and trying the six string 40p. This might cover the G. I am taking a risk that the A will get caught between two rails and be weak. But we will see - it can only be as bad as the 40p5 farce. Have any of you ever tried this out? Overall, I've tried to mod a Euro and I'm on the verge of cathartically defenestrating the entire thing. I didn't care for the sound of a satin finished Euro maple fretboard with the tonepump and TWs. I'm chasing the classic Spector tone. Trying to undercut the US model because I can't afford one brand new (£6500+). I'm running out of ideas. I've seen a bit of chat from some of you LHZ modders and I wonder if you have any tips because so far I'm feeling like I have botched this 'un. Anyway. Tinketytonk.
  10. This is complicated. I want to point out that if we look back at the history, we should be aware that today's social media is faster and far more aggressive to judge people compared to historical composers and musicians. If we dig any deeper, there are many, many very controversial opinions said out loud. Such that today many would nail those persons right away. We are wiser than ever before - so was the people in Germany in the 30's. Still I read news on a daily basis which tell me about wars, famine, dictators... Why it is impossible to solve problems instead of cause more of them? If Roger Waters supports Russia instead of Ukraine, Pink Floyd still has a few good songs. Prokofiev, Wagner... let's not go to this. As was seen from @Beedster's flag example, there are lots of loud people who do not understand satire at all, although satire can be done like Kenny Everett did: with the best possible taste.
  11. Flymo to the moon - Basie and Sinatra
  12. Ahhhh. Okay. Cheers!
  13. If you know of Origin Effects, then you know of their top notch build quality (built like tanks) with the best components and a true passion for getting 'that sound' The Super Vintage is based off the 1969 Ampeg SVT with a built in 8x10 Cab sim and it achieves that sound tremendously. Having nothing but compliments on my bass tone (a rare thing let me tell you). This pedal has been as plug and play as you can get, with little to no fiddling or some very intuitive messing around, I got warm old soul, clanking metal, fat Dub sounds and manily, a very usable and versatile sound. Only reason for selling is I am downsizing and this pedal is a bit overkill for what I need now. Can be delivered anywhere in the UK for £10. Any questions then please feel free to ask! Analogue amp recreation. Complete valve amp-style signal path with dedicated class-A preamp and push-pull output stage. Based on the legendary Ampeg® SVT®. Balanced DI output with analogue cabinet simulator based on the Ampeg® SVT 8x10" cabinet. Reactive overdrive design simulates interaction between amp and speaker for realistic feel and authentic sound. Full range of vintage bass amp tones from clean to overdriven. Powerful tone-shaping Amp Out EQ. Blend control lets you mix your drive sound in parallel with your clean signal. Tour-grade, all-metal construction. High-impedance buffered bypass with silent switching. Designed and assembled by hand in England. Weight: 846 g (1.14 lb) Dimensions: 146 mm (L) x 92 mm (W) x 64 mm (H) Current Draw: 150 mA Power: 9V DC, 2.1mm Centre Negative
  14. Hissing Of Summer Lawns - Joni Mitchell
  15. The IMA patches are very good. GLWTS man
  16. That's a reasonable question but, actually, if the school bass was also my main gigging bass, yes. I was walking into a venue for a gig I'd been really looking forward to about 15 years back with a DB worth around £1000 in a case worth around £50. A complete prat decided to try and 'nip' through the door ahead of me, in doing so pushed me slightly off balance, and the result was that the bridge hit the door frame, was knocked down, which broke the (f***ing expensive) wound gut E- string, but which more significantly caused the soundpost to fall. I was in a small, relatively dark venue with about an hour to fix it all, so decided instead to get my fretless electric backup and use that. Not the end of the world but the sound and performance was way off what I and the band had hoped for, especially given it was a trad music venue. In short the cash I subsequently spent on the Soundwear had nothing to do with the value of the bass and everything to do with getting that bass in and out of venues with hassles. And it did, it's one rugged, robust, and reliable bag 👍
  17. A fantastic compressor with plenty of tonal variety using 3 styles of compression with their own respective ratios. The SSL Bus compressor, FET 1176 and Darkglass's own Super Symmetry. There is also a lot of great tweaking that can be done via computer with the timings of attack, release and even a HPF. In fantastic condition, including box, manuals, rubber feet etc. Specifications: Hybrid Analog/Digital Compression Pure Analog signal path Blend control 3 built in yet distinct modes of advanced modelled compression Connect to your PC/Mac via Micro-USB (B) Free ‘Darkglass Suite’ software (provides additional fine control and compression models) 10-LED gain reduction meter Touch-Through metal sensors Internal doubling of supply voltage to 18V (allows for extra headroom) I/O: 6.5mm / ¼” Jack Input impedance: 1M Ohm Output impedance: 1k Ohm (9V DC, centre -, 2.1mm, ~250mA current draw)
  18. I don't think it is fair to compare a Fela Kuti to a swastica t-shirt. Also if you can't relate to the song's lyrics, don't play it. This goes as far as I am concerned for everything. You are not going to do a song justice if you can't relate to it. And if all it is to you is a nice tune, maybe you are right that it would be disrespectful to play it. I would hope though that most people can empathize with other people's suffering no matter what color their skin happens to be and no matter where they happen to live.
  19. A good condition Line 6 HX Stomp with original power supply, Ian Martin Allison patches and some other paid patches. I don't have the original box but I do have a fantastic box that will it will be sent in. Really enjoyed the HX Stomp but I'm downsizing and will be overkill for what I need. Postage can be arranged for an extra £10 to anywhere in the UK Any questions please shoot!
