  1. Past hour
  2. Very nice Roger, have a bump on me. Mark. ๐Ÿ‘
  3. cheers pal
  4. Iโ€™d look to spend a bit more on a sire v7/5 the string spacing makes a bass work for you or not IME
  5. Mrs Zero and I ran one while the normal host was on holiday, so I have a bit of experience. People need to sign in when they get there. Some open mics have pre-booking, others are first come first served. The host does the first slot. At one that I'm house bassist for, which is pre-book, the host encourages collaborations so I have a vague idea of who might want my services and sometimes even find out what songs they'll be doing before the night (sometimes I find out shortly before going on stage, sometimes I find out when they start). Have an adequate supply of mics, mic stands, and guitar leads. If there's going to be a drumkit there, make sure there's also a drummer who can set it up there during setup time. Have a couple of music stands too. If there's a Facebook page for the event, take some photos and stick them up after the event, maybe do a little acknowledgement of who was there - for example, https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61578654727858 and https://www.facebook.com/groups/976913649517143 My personal opinion about running order: after a few times, you'll spot who arrives, plays, and then f*cks off without staying to watch anyone else. Put them on late. Generally rotate order for the regulars so none of them get permanently stuck with early or graveyard slots and put irregulars into the better but not prime slots.
  6. Do you have any interestingones to share? My first Hohner bass had a fairly ordinary tort scratchplate nearly 40 years ago. My brother now has it... this is the same scratchplate!
  7. The drive is good, but the compressor and sub are not to my taste.
  8. I refer to it as a light relic but I sent Luca photo examples of the relicing I was after. You can go from none to as much as you want. I asked Luca if he had a really dark rosewood fingerboard he could use for the build.
  9. You play floating thumb on both hands? ๐Ÿ˜
  10. ๐Ÿ˜, not forgetting the harmony hairspray
  11. Not Lynx? With the great smell of unwashed teenager.
  12. That could be an option. It would look great in an off white. All the dings are surface chips of the finish so they could be filled in easily enough in prep. But I will likely come up against the same issue with finding someone who can do a decent job.
  13. I remember Brut ,and Old spice was the nicer one I think, but if you really wanted to impress then it had to be Hai Karate or Paco Rabanne ๐Ÿ˜
  14. Today
  15. The idea you can sweat your b*lls off in leathers round the track then 'freshen up' with a few splashes of Brut... ๐Ÿคฃ What's worse... Amazon recommended Old Spice to me yesterday. I remember coming to work a few days before the holidays in the eatly 90s "Oh wow! Has someone brought in a Christmas cake?" Turned out to be the (late middle aged) Finance Officer's Old Spice ๐Ÿคฃ
  16. It's almost as if different people are differrnt shapes! And like different things!
  17. Refin in solid colour over the varnish?
  18. So good I had to listen to it three times in a row ๐Ÿ˜
  19. That is kind of my position. It's great because of the neck and the pups, not the body shape or colour and I think instruments are to be played and enjoyed. Also, I think the headstock is very attractive and the pups, bridge and knobs are all great so if the body can be a better colour I am doing the bass a favour, regardless of its vintage.
  20. When I started playing bass, 38 years ago, my goal was always to be a fretless bassist, and for the last 16 years, that's what I've been doing thanks to my wife coming home with a Squier Fretless Jazz bass after I played one for a bit of fun in a music shop. She basically said I'd never buy it for myself so did it for me. Last year, I took on a new challenge and decided to get an EUB but it sort of back fired as after a week of buying it, I was out gigging it and have since done about 25 gigs on it. So for next year, I'm going for a new challenge and I'm going to get a cheap 5 string bass and if that works out ok, then I'll give 5 string fretless a shot. I've got two on my list so I'm basically after opinions on them if anyone has owned or tried one. I'm looking at the Harley Benton MV-5PJ or the Squier Affinity Active Jazz. Both are just over ยฃ200 and should be a good starting bass to try 5 string on. Any thoughts on either?
