No bass demos yet, but general guitar feedback seems to be that the tracking is insanely good. Maybe just marketing, but there is a ‘best whammy ever’ vibe floating about at the mo.

MXR M87 Bass Compressor Repair - May Be Of Use To Someone?
PetNanoFerret replied to Johnny Wishbone's topic in Effects
Hey all, I know I'm late to this party.. But having similar issues with my M87. LEDs all light up for several minutes then drop one by one after several minutes. In my case, however, I do have output signal. But tone/function of pedal is unpredictable and changes the longer it's on. I did continuity test with the ratio switch and it appears that one side of the switch is working normally but the other side seems to be non-functional/not connecting the poles (pic attached). Is this similar to the issue others were having with the switch? If the switch is truly fried though, not sure how I would have output signal (but I'm not familiar enough with the circuit to know definitively). Let me know if you have any insight. I did find the exact replacement switch through Small Bear Electronics (US) and am confident enough in my soldering skills so if you think putting the switch might fix this, I'll go ahead and try. Pedal isn't very usable in this condition. Thanks -
andy66db started following Alnus Basses - Anyone got one?

I have a lightly aged Sonic Blue Alnus Jazz Bass. Yes it’s an aged Fender copy, but it absolutely blew my Road Worn (Mexican) Fender Anniversary 60s Jazz Bass out of the water. The workmanship, the quality of the ageing (very subtle in my case) and the playability is up there with custom shop Fenders, for a quarter of the price. I sold the Fender (for what I paid for the Alnus) and now have a three bass collection — a ‘72 Precision, an ‘86 Stingray and the Alnus Jazz, which really holds its own alongside the other two. I couldn’t be happier with it.

Nice job, I’ve got the same pickups in one of my precision’s, I can’t remember how much I paid but it wasn’t a big price, really great aren’t they

New pickup day - is there such a thing? I’m slowly doing up a bitsa P which used to belong to my brother. It’s mostly a pretty ancient Squier Affinity P with a few upgrades and changes over the years. Bit the bullet and bought some Tonerider Classic P pickups for it which i installed today. Wow. Absolutely chalk and cheese compared to the cheap nasty pickups that were in there (somewhere amid the grime and rust.). In fairness I’ve been gigging it with the original pickups over the last few weeks: it’s sounded thumpy and thick but hey it’s a P with flats. But suddenly yeah it’s like a blanket has been taken off it. Suddenly loud, bright, articulate, punchy. All the good things you’d want. And didn’t burn myself on the soldering iron, which itself is progress. Top marks. Best £35 I’ve spent in a while. Gigging it tomorrow so I can’t wait to hear it. Here’s a pic of the finished work, which admittedly just shows a bass with some pickups in it…..

Dr.Dave started following P J pot replacement
-
Hiya folks - just to kick off by saying I'm no sparky beyond wiring a plug or soldering a jack so please keep that in mind. Just picked up a P J which I'm modding and one thing I want to do is dump the two vol control ( as per jazz bass) set up. I'd like to replace the second vol with a pup swing pot. It's need to have a click in the mid position ( are they all like that ?? I don't know ). So - I'm going to need a suitable pot. Any idea which one I should get ? I read online either a 250k or 500k should do it but I don't know the difference. I'll also need a wiring diagram which I can most likely follow. All thoughts gratefully accepted.

quiverdog started following StingRay HH wiring mod idea
-
Hey all, I just bough a Sterling HH that's wired incorrectly (only the pickups' front coils are connected) but actually gives me some really cool sounds. I'd like to get it rewired to have the best of both the current wiring and the normal StingRay HH wiring, but I have no experience with circuits and the like. Is the switching setup I mocked up below good enough to hand off to a tech, or would it be better to figure out a proper wiring diagram first?

I do agree Tom, but without the original packaging, I'd be concerned about sending this out into courier world. I also much prefer potential buyers to confirm they are happy with the item in person before they purchase. However, if a buyer would be prepared to arrange collection by their preferred courier I could source appropriate packaging.

One of the reasons I fell in love with the bass. I’ve very fond memories of listening to Pentangle on John Peel as a teenager. The things he did on bass were just so exciting.
