  1. Past hour
  2. I've spent some time yesterday and today, carefully commissioning the amp. I found a couple of screen grid connections that had somehow escaped soldering, so fixed that. The amp is working, in the sense that it produces output but I need to tweak the bias circuit as at present it's way too hot (over 200% of rated dissipation), even on the lowest pot setting and 180V mains supply. The over-hot bias is likely responsible for the hum I'm hearing (regardless of control positions). There is no audible oscillation when I raise the master volume, so the phase of the NFB connection is correct. I also used my oscilloscope to check for oscillation outside the audible range, and again there's nothing. I've done enough for today. Working on amps into the evening really messes up my sleep! A bit more work over the weekend and I'll be there.
  3. I had forgotten to add the weight. Using travel scales it comes in at a light 3.3kg. It is a hollow body ( no centre block like most Gibson derivatives) but the body is quite large.
  4. The classic, I think it is called. P1.
  5. My old one. It has to be said though, whomever decorated this rehearsal room in Sainsbury's colours needs to be humanely destroyed.
  6. Mesa and Boogie….?
  7. I owned a wee J&D P-bass for a while. Was a cracking wee thing 😎 Maple/Rosewood neck. Alder body so pretty light. Think the pickup was ceramic, bright and lively. Never had any issue with hardware. Thought it was a bargain at £104. Great if black/tort is your taste 👍 I'm afraid the gap between owning my PB-20 and the J&D shorty was too long for an honest comparison.
  8. If this amp is that good it deserves a cab that doesn't get in the way or arbitrarily alter the sound. 2 makes immediately spring to mind that would fit that description perfectly.
  9. Bow Finishing in Godstone, Surrey. https://www.bowfinishing.co.uk/ I believe they do the finishing work for Bernie Goodfellow (GB Guitars)……..enough said. I’m not affiliated with them, but if Bernie places work there, they must be good. Probably loads of other reputable finishers within the M25 area.
  10. Damn, decided to go for the 800D given stock arrived in the UK today AND THEY’RE SOLD OUT ALREADY 😡
  11. @Paul Geary much love being given to your boss! For those who don't know, Paul is Nik's bass player 😎
  12. I agree entirely 👍
  13. I must dig out my two 1516 stories, one in which it broke the singer’s car, the other in which it created its own horizon rendering it apparently invisible to the human eye 👍
  14. For the last 11 years I’ve been thinking one of these would be perfect for one of my gigs. But now that gig has dried up to maybe 3-4 a year max, so seems a bit pointless! Hope you get yours sorted @tauzero
  15. TC BQ250 bass amp. Only used for a few hours of use whilst I was getting another amp fixed. Has a small mark on top whilst it was clamped into a TC combo cab (see other listing). Prefer collection but could post it necessary.

  22. Which tonerider pickup? I've saving my penny's for a Hb shorty, debating the matter finish one
  23. Just seen this one advertized through the grapevine - a limited edition Rhoads-shaped bass: https://www.guitarcenter.com/Jackson/X-Series-RR-B-IV-Limited-Edition-Electric-Bass-Guitar-Black-1500000455188.gc I've always lusted after the Jackson Rhoads and Warrior shapes and desperately wished they did bass versions (you occasionally see custom shop models pop up which shows they can at least make them!). This one seems to be a limited edition and I wonder whether any will make their way over here...
  24. So the stingray has had 6 coats of clear coat today and it’s being left over the weekend to cure before it’s wet sand and buff to a high gloss finish. im really pleased with the dirty stain, the stark white has gone and the grain really pops out. Its certainly going to be different from the usual natural finish stingrays and definitely worth the effort once it is back together. i have suppliers sourcing me a black bridge direct from musicman so once that is here i can reassemble!
  25. From my experience, they do have a noticeable seismic impact on the surrounding area. My neighbours hated me when I had the 400+ and the 1516! I just think that this head deserves a matching cab, complete with the Mesa/Boogie logo, the grid plate grille and so on, but in the Subway style - ie, lightweight and portable for people who don't have a big car and who value the integrity of their vertebrae.
  26. Just tried it out. So, so clean. Better sound than your best oxygen free copper, gold plated connector, washed in unicorn tears cable. I would use it from choice even for a quiet gig with no leaping about.
