  2. That’s so small ! I just bought a cab with a 15” and it’s huge. It has handles but it’s so wide you can’t use both on your own. mind you I did only pay £10 I put casters on to get around the handle issue
  3. Lots of members travel around … you might get lucky
  4. I had the privilege of seeing Dill Katz play on numerous occasions in the 80s and 90s. In particular with his “Mr Gone” ensemble featuring Ted McKenna, Tommy Eyre and John Etheridge. He was a masterful player, with a very distinctive style and sound, with his fat sounding Ned Callan modified Jazz Bass, the unlined fretless fingerboard extended to the pickup. His soloing was captivating and expressive, unafraid to push the boundaries. A great shame to hear of his passing.
  5. Best amp I’ve ever played. Can’t afford, probably don’t need, but boy I wish I could get it! GLWS
  6. I depped for “Matt Guntrip and the Roadsters” at the inaugural “Epsom Square Festival”. We did 10 or so songs: 8 OGs and a couple of covers. I played 2 of the songs a couple of weeks ago, so it was only 8 to learn 😀. I really enjoyed the gig. A few highlights / lowlights: 2 of the band couldn’t find the car park they’d parked in, so we were without the stage piano. I (the Epsom local in the band) eventually worked out which one it was (almost directly underneath us) and showed them how to get there. When we got to the car we couldn’t get stuff out of the boot. Then we couldn’t work out how to turn on the ignition or where the handbrake was, or maybe wasn’t (it was another band members car).😂 We were sat at the stage we we were going to play on, then saw my mates band go on who were on a different stage to us. Quick panic to find the organiser and then our stage.🤔 One of guitarists snapped a string in the 1st song and couldn’t see to get a new one on.🤷‍♂️ A gig of 3 halves. Ist half we had a good number watching, who all left after about 3 songs that we’d played well (broken string faff not withstanding); we later found out it was at least 2 groups leaving for restaurant bookings. 2nd half playing to 2 tables who looked like they’d just stopped for a beer. 3rd half a load of people piled out of the indoor stage for the last 4 songs or so. I used my wireless system for the 1st time at a gig. I went for the odd wander in the 1st and 3rd halves (I.e. the ones for which we had an audience). I think it helped engage the audience. Saw a few people I hadn’t seen for a while, so good to catch up with them. Chatting to one of them was responsible for me leaving my wireless stuff on top of a wall. Luckily I realised before I drove off and they were recovered successfully. Bass G&L L2000 Outfit: Hawaian shirt, shorts, cap (for reasons of sun and bald patch), neon blue trainers. And glasses, which I thought were so I could see, but I’ve found they also help guitarists change strings on the fly 🤣.
  7. You're so Vein - Carley Simon
  8. That's very interesting to read and food for thought. Thank you 👍
  9. @Chiliwailer Jammin' with E.T I like the mood of this and the unpredictable but always resolving chords. I found it soothing and dreamy. @Baloney Balderdash Syd Barrett's spectacles The honesty of the performance in this track comes over well. I like it's unique personal style.
  10. Can anyone recommend a safe reliable courier. I'm looking at buying a bass which is in Manchester and considering getting it couriered to Plymouth Can anyone recommend a safe, reliable courier? The bass comes with a case and will be boxed, but it is a semi-hollow. Or would the cost be around the same as fuel costs if I drove up and collected it myself, added to the additional peace of mind Any advice is welcome thanks

  12. Actually, I did find that thread, but the model looked too early to be of any relevance. On reflection though 🙂

  15. Hi all, selling my Dingwall Combustion 5 has never been gigged in mint condition, just used at home and for recording at home, as much as i love it circumstances have changed and unfortunately it needs to go to a good home, it will come with the padded gig bag, pau ferro fretboard, ideally would be collection or can meet halfway if sensible, any questions please feel free to ask The Combustion succeeds in providing the ultimate combination of tone, performance and value, making it perfect for both stage and studio work. Thanks to our hybrid manufacturing approach, each bass receives a final fret level and set up by our skilled team of artisans in Canada, which means you can enjoy the cutting-edge benefits of the Dingwall Custom Shop at a more affordable price. Select from a left or right-handed model, Maple or Pau Ferro, 4-, 5- or 6-strings, with or without a pickguard and choose from a range of available of finishes, including Natural Ash, 2-Tone Blackburst, Vintageburst, Indigoburst, Whalepoolburst, and Ultraviolet. BODY & NECK The body is swamp ash and modelled on our Custom Shop Afterburner. It’s compact and lightweight, making for a bass that’s comfortable to wear and beautifully balanced. The five-piece maple neck is securely attached via four bolts, and the fingerboard employs Ralph Novak’s fanned-fret system and a 34–37-inch scale spread (the scale length of the B-string is three inches longer than the G), with a 240mm fretboard radius, making it superfast over a full two octaves. “We’re happy to report that the Combustion is well deserving of the Dingwall reputation. It’s built to last, with plenty of bounce, vibrancy and great sustain, all you would want from a five-string bass. We can’t recommend it highly enough – this is why so many bassists are adopting these instruments into their bass arsenals. Buy with confidence!” BASS GUITAR MAGAZINE PICKUPS & ELECTRONICS The Combustion comes fitted with Dingwall FD3n pickups that are made to our exacting specifications using neodymium magnets, which offer both high output and a smooth, but aggressive tone. They’re wired to a 3-band preamp, along with a 4-position Quad-tone pickup selector, master volume and an active/passive toggle switch. “The Quad-Tone pickup selector gave me quick access to several distinct flavors. In passive mode, the soloed neck and bridge pickups were old-school and vintage, the bridge /middle pickup combo was fat and focused, and the bridge/neck sound was loud and growly. Changing right-hand position gave me lots of variations on those themes, but switching on the preamp brought each pickup to life and showed me several new colors.” BASS MAGAZINE HARDWARE The Dingwall bridge started with an available bridge/saddle system that met our requirements for solid performance and great tone. We then improved on it by designing a custom riser system to provide an increased range of flexibility when it comes to adjusting the action. The headstock is home to the lightest import tuners we could find. We collaborated with Hipshot to modify their Ultra-lite tuners, which resulted in a shorter tuning peg that allows a proper downward angle at the nut for maximum sustain and improved stability. Dingwall Strings Dingwall strings have been meticulously tested to maximize performance and deliver a tone that blends effortlessly with any style of music. We were the first company to design strings specifically for multi-scale instruments. Available in both nickel and stainless steel, our strings provide an even tension for optimal balance, letting you experience the warmest highs and the tightest lows possible. Note: basses are shipped with Dingwall Nickel Strings as standard. 16. Hey thanks JJ. It looks earlier than mine, but good to see what an original bridge might look like.

  21. My life underwent a similar upheaval a few years back. She bought me out of the house so I had a few grand to splurge in the Basschat market place and ever since I have been living the life of an itinerant musician. I'm pretty much broke by most people's standards but I wouldn't go back for any money. Hang in there mate, life can surprise you in a good way too
  22. When Will I Be Famouse - Bros
  23. These are underrated! The low and high controls are super handy on bass 👌
  24. I owned it, but ended up selling it, because I'm a BassChatter... GR Bass AeroTech Full Carbon Cube 800 Combo coupled to a GR Bass AeroTech Full Carbon Cube 112+ cabinet. Super light and super powerful with excellent definition and almost neutral sounding.
  25. We put domed lights on top of our cabs to stop people putting drinks down. Dave
  26. A Tony Franklin like Precision Bass would be a better description. It has what looks like an ebony fingerboard with a brass nut on what also looks to be a 70's Fender P-Bass neck, with a Jazz Bass pickup under the bridge cover and the output jack located on the side as the hole is now certainly occupied by the tone control. If it's an original Fender 70's Precision Bass neck, the fingerboard has been changed as it was either rosewood or varnished maple.
