SteveXFR started following My New Year Challenge - What 5 String Bass, Harley Benton or Squier?

I really didn't like my Squier Affinity Jazz. It had sharp frets, tuners made of cheese and I could just never get it to play nicely. Without doubt the worst bass Ive owned. Id recommend looking for a used Ibanez SR305. You'll easily find one in budget and they're not just good for the price, they're just really good. They're light, comfortable, nice narrow neck and a big range of available tones. Peavey International V is also excellent but not too common. Surprisingly nice bass and I managed to find one for £150

Connecting my Midi piano to Cubase on my PC
BigRedX replied to bass_dinger's topic in Other Instruments
Why do you need to connect the Roland Piano to the Behringer interface via MIDI? surely the best thing is to connect the Roland direct to your computer using the USB sockets on each or have I missed something? -

Getting older is tough. There seems to be more losses than gains. I feel for you all as we too have lost nearest to us this year My wife found her brother in may, Brain Hemorrhage 56 years old a close friend had a botched heart op and died suddenly another close friend has bone cancer it never stops I told my wife she had to retire, she's 62 and was a customs officer for over 40 years I hope to retire in the next 2 to 3 years and hope 2026 is quieter My love to you all

Hi folks I did this as a fun project, but sadly about 2 yrs too late as my arthritis is not so good now, and whilst I can just about wrestle a tune out of a bass, it isn't getting any easier. There is a separate thread on this bass here: The specs are as follows: The doner bass is a DiMavery MM501 - surprisingly good tbh! The bass has a Basswood body, maple neck with a lovely satin finish and nice Rosewood board. This has bee upgraded with a Retrovibe Stinger preamp and Retrovibe MM pickup which required a bit of widening of the control cavity, also some LaBella LT flats. Finally, I spray painted the pickguard black - not a great job but looks fine from about 2 metres or more away. If you have any questions please ask away. I have packaging and can post the bass, and will go 50/50 with you on the cost if postage is your preference. Also happy to meet up somewhere mutually convenient of it's not too far away. Here are a few pics:

Before. It seems to power up OK. The pre-shape lamp is the only one lit and that's on both sets if lights. I was thinking of doing some testing today, see whether it's the panel switches or foot switches that cause the problem, and whether all five switches have problems. -

Stripping and staining walnut body - advice please

If you don’t like the body shape as well as the colour how about getting a new body made to fit the rest of the hardware? -
I found this in reference to Autumnglo from a John Hall Q&A. Not sure if it helps or hinders: Unfortunately, there were about three different shades of Autumnglo produced over the years. The first one, circa '57, was like a Fireglo surrounded by a brown edge. The second, during the late 50's and through into the 60's was more like a very dark Fireglo. The last one, in the 70's, was kind of, for lack of a better description, a baby poop brown with a matte surface. So, while dreaming, take your pick! (My personal preference is the first type.)

It’s smaller than the small one, the small one has soft touch switching and assorted circuitry

Pretty sure mine did that; are you plugging in the foot switch before or after powering on the amp? -

The Strat is a lovely guitar, it's a MIJ 87 which appears to be a 62 reissue, thee bolt head etc. I'm not that up on these things TBH but it's lovely to play, has EMG active pickups, the vibrato is locked with a block of wood and at one time in its life was routed for a humbucker at the bridge. Im trying to write songs, so I use the Strat, my 3d printed headless bass and a macbook. It's hard work but it's very different to my day job so it's a good way to unwind. - Today

Price drop to £100! High quality fuzz with some great sounds including Velcro tearing gated fuzz for some synthy action plus more traditional fuzz noises. In the original box with some feet and a sticker. Velcro’d on the bottom plus free of charge carpet fluff. I’m trying to free up cash for a BassRig 15 so not a massive interest in trades / part-ex unless there’s a GigRig QMX4 or QMX6 involved.
