If you're operating as a business subject to the Consumer Rights Act you should be aware that that legislation effectively states (at Sections 19(14) and 19(15) to be precise) that if a fault develops within six months of purchase then the item is deemed to have been sold in that condition unless proven otherwise. In other words they could potentially come after you to replace, repair or refund it unless you have demonstrable proof that the faults weren't there when the bass was sold. If they're trying to con you with a video of a bass which is not the one you sold then you should tell them to jog on.

Unless the venue has a rig that's arguably "better" than yours. This thread isn't about amps but I had that happen to me some years back 😄

What big leather coat? I haven't worn leather since the end of The Terrortones.
-
The title is asking about taking a best bass on a gig but you're specifically asking about pub gigs. I answered based on the latter as I use my favourite in church all the time 👍 None of my basses are "housebound" in that sense.

I messaged a few times but didn’t hear anything back. Anyone here have any luck? -
Anyone teach slapping? Right hand technique ( decent pizz, let alone slap) is a mystery to most classically oriented bass teachers. Being a classical and mainstream jazzer ..It's not something I'd ever wanted to do ( tho I admire the skill of some people who do it) but was in a big band playing Mingus' music this year and the parts were sometimes marked "slapped". Well I tried but with highish tension strings it didn't work well. Back in the day there were no amps, strings were gut and most of the players had to slap to be heard ... by the late 50s it was applied ironically or nostalgically, but those guys could do it. Dying art?

Hi all, selling my Dingwall Combustion 5 has never been gigged in mint condition, just used at home and for recording at home, as much as i love it circumstances have changed and unfortunately it needs to go to a good home, it will come with the padded gig bag, pau ferro fretboard, ideally would be collection or can meet halfway if sensible, any questions please feel free to ask The Combustion succeeds in providing the ultimate combination of tone, performance and value, making it perfect for both stage and studio work. Thanks to our hybrid manufacturing approach, each bass receives a final fret level and set up by our skilled team of artisans in Canada, which means you can enjoy the cutting-edge benefits of the Dingwall Custom Shop at a more affordable price. Select from a left or right-handed model, Maple or Pau Ferro, 4-, 5- or 6-strings, with or without a pickguard and choose from a range of available of finishes, including Natural Ash, 2-Tone Blackburst, Vintageburst, Indigoburst, Whalepoolburst, and Ultraviolet. BODY & NECK The body is swamp ash and modelled on our Custom Shop Afterburner. It’s compact and lightweight, making for a bass that’s comfortable to wear and beautifully balanced. The five-piece maple neck is securely attached via four bolts, and the fingerboard employs Ralph Novak’s fanned-fret system and a 34–37-inch scale spread (the scale length of the B-string is three inches longer than the G), with a 240mm fretboard radius, making it superfast over a full two octaves. “We’re happy to report that the Combustion is well deserving of the Dingwall reputation. It’s built to last, with plenty of bounce, vibrancy and great sustain, all you would want from a five-string bass. We can’t recommend it highly enough – this is why so many bassists are adopting these instruments into their bass arsenals. Buy with confidence!” BASS GUITAR MAGAZINE PICKUPS & ELECTRONICS The Combustion comes fitted with Dingwall FD3n pickups that are made to our exacting specifications using neodymium magnets, which offer both high output and a smooth, but aggressive tone. They’re wired to a 3-band preamp, along with a 4-position Quad-tone pickup selector, master volume and an active/passive toggle switch. “The Quad-Tone pickup selector gave me quick access to several distinct flavors. In passive mode, the soloed neck and bridge pickups were old-school and vintage, the bridge /middle pickup combo was fat and focused, and the bridge/neck sound was loud and growly. Changing right-hand position gave me lots of variations on those themes, but switching on the preamp brought each pickup to life and showed me several new colors.” BASS MAGAZINE HARDWARE The Dingwall bridge started with an available bridge/saddle system that met our requirements for solid performance and great tone. We then improved on it by designing a custom riser system to provide an increased range of flexibility when it comes to adjusting the action. The headstock is home to the lightest import tuners we could find. We collaborated with Hipshot to modify their Ultra-lite tuners, which resulted in a shorter tuning peg that allows a proper downward angle at the nut for maximum sustain and improved stability. Dingwall Strings Dingwall strings have been meticulously tested to maximize performance and deliver a tone that blends effortlessly with any style of music. We were the first company to design strings specifically for multi-scale instruments. Available in both nickel and stainless steel, our strings provide an even tension for optimal balance, letting you experience the warmest highs and the tightest lows possible. Note: basses are shipped with Dingwall Nickel Strings as standard. Measure, check, measure, check, measure, check, cut, check, measure. It was all perfect right up until I glued & screwed it together. Suddenly my 1mm extra all around disappeared and it’s 2mm too narrow!!! Amp head no fit. Stuff it. I’ll crack on with the cab for now.

All my basses are "best". They are all tools, are replaceable (although I would rather not have to) and were all bought to be gigged, so leaving them at home has never crossed my mind. Same for amps and cabs. I'm not going to sound my best if I leave the "best" gear at home.

Pow_22 started following Tonerider Duke

Ive been a long time fan of Toneriders standard P pickups and i do love a traditional woody throaty P sound with flats through some valves. However, recently in my jazz i put some used Wizard 84's in and have been blown away. Yes they are hotter than standard but maintain a vintagey tone and dont go full on mud. For my P,as a cheap option to the thumper, i noticed the Tonerider Duke, slightly less hot which could mean i maintain more of the vintage vibe but add a bit of 'push' to my sound. Has anybody tried both the standard and duke models and could chip on with their thoughts on a comparison of the two? Its a must that i retain that woody thunky sound so definately want to avoid a muddy dark sound

Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V (Black)
PsyBean replied to mikegrovesmusic's topic in Basses For Sale
These are fabulous basses, I too have one but I’m afraid I can’t justify a second. Incredible range of tones available when running active but also proper old school sound when passive. If you don’t mind me asking, what strings do you have fitted? I use Elixirs on my Jazz but can’t string them through body as the B string is a fraction too short and ends up with the taper portion starting before the nut. Causes issues with the action and intonation. GLWTS -
Freddi375 started following FMC 1210UL Cab £400 & Bugera BV1001M £180

Hey guys, Following items are for sale: FMC 1210UL I purchased this recently from Franzbassist who done me a fantastic deal on it. A fantastic little cab, but unfortunately my transport situation means that I am no longer able to take this with me on all of my gigs. I now need to find a 112 cab solution, small enough that fits in the boot of a Mazda MX5. In fantastic condition with thick cover. You will be able to find the previous add on here. Can send photos on request. Taken from Franzbassist add (hope you don't mind!) This cab has a 12" neo speaker at the bottom and a 10" neo speaker at the top. There is no tweeter. Power handling is 600 watts RMS and the dimensions are 65.5cm high, 41.5cm wide and 41 cm deep. The actual weight of this cab is 17.5 kg with the cover on. Impedance 4 ohms. To quote the FMC site "The speaker sounds more powerful than a 210, it has the transparency of the 10" and the bulkiness and centre focus of the 12" speaker. Altogether a modern and open-sounding box with plenty of depth. New price in Germany is €754 (£641). £400 collection from Swindon Bugera BV1001M (Mosfet) Brilliant amp for the money, boxed as new (purchased from Andertons back in April 25 for £229). I have a quilter V803 and TE Elf, so have decided to sell this on and help fund a new cab. Loads of positive reviews on these online. £180 collection from Swindon Tradewise I would be interested in a trade on either of the above for a 112 or 2x112 cab/cabs, plus money your way if required. Only really interested in high end cabs that can handle low B of a 5 string bass. You are very welcome to come try either of these before committing to any purchase. Kind regards Freddie
