  3. Hello, I'm selling my Fender Jazz Bass, which was built in 1996 for Fender's 50th anniversary. The bass has the typical features of a '62 model: an alder body, a maple neck, and a wonderful rosewood fingerboard. Unfortunately, the beautiful grain doesn't come across properly in the pictures. The bass is very resonant and has the '60s Jazz Bass tone you'd expect. It weighs 3.95 kg. The case shown in the photos unfortunately belongs to a different bass. Price is £950/1090€

  4. Definitely US. This came from a parts bass made by a Sadowsky employee. No real markings on it to identify as such. The pickups were scrubbed out and headstock left blank for fear of repercussions. I still have the neck - Brazillian rosewood fingerboard, Graphtech nut, Schaller tuners.

  6. £215 two months old barely used. This is the brand new updated version. Has an awesome meter light display and is much smaller than the older model. Cali76 bass compressor. Bought two months ago. All boxed and absolutely mint. Used a few times… have decided to stick with my OG diamond compressor although the Cali is amazing… can’t afford to keep both… been on a very expensive bender of testing pedals.

  10. Wow that's a cool bass.
  11. Roasted birdseye maple neck too - that's a top dollar specification! 🙂
  12. Done! Thanks for the heads up Martin!

  14. Trade for a Spector and cash my way?
  15. Maybe he covered it in the first text paragraph to Ex. 5a, when he says “The V7 chord…pivots between both major and minor tonalities”? If that’s what he meant, I think a little clarification was called for. Anyway, I’m playing the examples on pages 18/19. It’s annoying how I can read quite fluently on the 4-string, but occasionally get completely lost with the addition of the 5th string, even though I’m not playing it! Oh well, I’ve only had the 5-string for a week.
  16. The Dukes was my introduction to XTC, I was in a band and the BL/songwriter taped some stuff for me. Only many years later did I get Skylarking which I love. I'm going to listen to more of their albums but I'm worried that after Skylarking the rest might be disappointing. I used to know a Nigel who claimed to be from the same school as Colin but I'm sure any Nigel from that era of Swindon has laid claim to having that song written about them. There is a recent ish interview with Andy P on the Rockonteurs podcast, he goes through the whole Colin v Andy songwriting thing (he sounded a little bitter) Any suggestions as to what album to listen to after Skylarking will be much appreciated 😁
  17. An excellent, well-filmed and apparently honest documentary; thanks for sharing.
  18. I've shimmed mine previously with just a narrow piece of business card or similar. You need it to be as long az the width of the neck and about 5 or 6mm wide is fine. Loosen your strungs and then unscrew the neck. Put the card at the end of the neck pocket and screw the neck back in. Re-tune and adjust the height of the bridge to suit your preferences. If your actuon was too low to start with and you can't get it high enough, then you'll need to put the shim at the other end of the neck pocket. Have a fiddle to see what works. You won't break it.

  20. Colin Moulding? Where do you want to start! What a brilliant musician, bass player, songwriter, you name it. If he weren't such a self-effacing chap he would have a very different profile. I honestly believe he could have had a career as a top session musician if he had wanted. I cannot think of a better bassist that any record producer or artist could hire to interprit and compliment their music in a novel and interesting way. Colin's such a creative bass player without ever conspicuously drawing attention to himself. He could have done the same job Pino Palladino has done for so many artists, albeit in his own inimitable way. The way he plays the bass is so exciting and quite fascinating. XTC were just breaking through around the time I started playing and Colin Moulding has always been a major role model for me. It seems like such a waste he's not out there making music much anymore because he's a unique talent.
  21. @SpondonBassed Apologies. I was going to ask you "who did I speak to then?" But that would be stupid so I won't.
  22. I really like the bridge. I understand that it is a little fiddly to use but I have had good results. It was on the bass when I bought it but I will look into a replacement. The string spacing is very narrow, probably 16.5mm.
  23. Yep, it’s those little things that make me throw my hands up in confusion because the only thing I’m sure of is ‘I don’t understand this!’.
