  2. Yes, sound hole plugs work. Take a leaf out of the double bass players book who use F hole blockers to reduce feedback on loud or difficult stages. Also, bring that HPF up to about 60hz. I played a gig yesterday with my acoustic double bass on a very resonant (I.e. empty wooden box) stage. The whole gig I was on the verge of run away feedback and playing open strings was an absolute no no. Sometimes you just have to modify your technique to suit the circumstances of the gig.

  4. One tip I would add which was a big mistake I made, obviously spray in a well ventilated area but don’t do it outside, I sprayed mine and hung it up and millions of little bugs and flies stuck to it 😁, I had to re do it
  5. I missed one point out in my post. Many people stated that their matt finish became shiny after use so some.parts looked matt and some didn't. I was trying to avoid the shine. Also any particular brands of matt finish recommended? Thanks Rob
  6. I have finally got to a Marc Johnson transcription. This is the tune 'Dingy Dong Day' from the 1997 Johnson led album 'The Sound Of Summer Running'. I love the tune and I love what they do with it (have a listen if you haven't hear it before, you'll see (hear) what I mean). Not a massively challenging tune to play but 'that' section will throw you if you are not ready for it. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/dingy-dong-day-marc-johnson/
  7. 1 rack unit is gone so the only one left is the lower one in the photos. For sale is my used but not abused EMS 500 19" rack case. The rack is currently assembled as 6U but can be reconfigured as 3U, 6U simply by removing some bolts and panels - 10 min job! You can also configure it so the top removes for mixers. The rack is currently assembled to a board with castors which isn't included in the sale and will be removed before shipping.........unless you really, really want it and then it would be an extra £20 and whatever the increased postage is. These are quite special cases as they are modular construction where you can increase or decrease the number of rack spaces by easily adding or removing side and end panels. All you need is an allen key! You can also use them with a mixer installed in the top and the top panel can be easily removed! See the photo of how I had the units set up for my band PA. (None of the rack equipment is included.) All catches etc are in good condition. Rack to rack depth is 48cm. Weight per 6U assembly is 18lbs / 8.2kg. See the attached brochure for more details. The 6U Gator version of this case weighs 13lbs so slightly lighter but is NOT as rigid, road resilient or has the flexiblity options. As these are modular I would propose they are dismantled and flat packed for shipping to reduce the cost. I'll give details on how to re-assemble if you need but its quite straight forward. I've estimated UK postage to be £15 per unit. 6U Rack Unit 2 - the lower 6U rack unit in the photos on its own - £90 / Board with castors - £20 / Both together £100. Shipping Extra EMS.pdf
  8. For sale is my Headrush Gigboard in great condition. It has the latest firmware updates etc and comes with the original power supply. Fully functional and dead easy to use / configure etc. I have a number of my own bass presets stored and I removed the factory (mainly guitar) presets to reduce the need for scrolling etc. I can easily reload the original presets if the new owner would like.....it takes about 2 mins, its that straight forward. Plenty of online videos, help and guidance to review as well. Its really easy to set up and edit using the touch screen to drag & drop effects and IR's together instantly. The interface is super easy to use. There are plenty of amps, cabs, IRs, microphone, and effects options to get the tones you're looking for. You can use your own impulse responses as well as backing up your presets to your PC. The four switches can be configured to switch between rigs, switch on effects, scenes or whatever you prefer. It has a looper too and can be used as audio interface for recording with reamping from the clean signal. Heres a few links: Headrush website Headrush Effects & Controls List Basschat thread I've added some documents for info eg: manual, effects list, preset equivalents - Gigboard-User-Guide-v2_1_2.pdfHeadRush Amps, Cabs, Mics and Effects.pdfHeadrush Models @2019.pdfHeadrush Preset Equivalents.pdf Comes boxed with power supply. As Aberdeen is a long way from most of civilisation, I'll ship to mainland UK at cost using Parcelforce / Royal Mail.
  9. For sale is my TC Electronic GMajor-2 multi effects unit in fully working condition and updated to the latest firmware. Pictures show it in its usual rack home (rack not included). Although most of the standard effects are aimed at the guitarist I have found the compressor, gate, flanger, phaser and octaver (up and down) etc. to be very useable for bass. I can either factory reset before shipping or leave the presets I have created intalled. It has built in EQ, noise gate, compressor, reverbs, delays, wahs, octaver, tremolo, phaser, flanger etc each of which can be switched in / out from the front panel as required. I have been using this via my amps effects loop and found the compressor (and all the effects) just add their effect without changing the fundamental sound of the bass. Comes with original box and operating manual. You can use the unit in your DAW as well as with your bass / guitar etc. Patches can be easily selected from the front panel or attach a midi-pedal (I used a MidiMoose). There is also some Vyzor software you can download from the net which allows you to interface your PC with the GMajor-2 to edit and backup your user patches. I have also attached the GMajor-2 and Vyzor manuals below. tc_electronic_g-major_2_manual_english.pdfVyzor_G-Major2_Quick-Start.pdf I estimate UK shipping about £10 to £15.

  11. I have just gone through a lot of my studio / PA gear and removed the excess insert and patch cables etc. and have gathered together quite a collection of connectors. Some of the items are brand new never been used but all are in great condition and fully functional. I could be persueded to a bulk buy reduction. Postage would be based on how many and destination. The table below gives as much info on model / style as I know.

  15. I play bass in two bands, dep on bass in a third band, and do solo acoustic guitar and vocal gigs. The members of each band also play in various other bands too. As long as there’s agreement well in advance on what gigs can and can’t be done, we work around it through deps. The only band I rehearse with is the one where we write original material - in the others it is assumed I do my homework and turn up knowing the material. Committing to lots of rehearsals is actually something that would put me off playing in a band - the people I play with are all experienced musicians playing at a very decent level while already juggling family, other commitments (musical and otherwise) so doing it without rehearsals is par for the course. Where I am (Leicester) there’s a huge amount of overlap of musicians playing with multiple bands. I tend to find I either know someone or have played with someone who knows them! Not sure if that’s the case in other cities too but I’d expect so. The idea of being in just one band doesn’t really come into it. The things that attract me to working with bands? Regular paid gigs, material I like, musicians I like, no pressure to rehearse, and some say in the songs we do. I’ve been in enough bands that go nowhere, or never get round to gigging for one reason or another, or have people i struggle to get ok with etc…
  16. I took part in my first gig in 18 months yesterday. It was a battle of the bands in a secondary school and our band was one of the 'parent's bands'. Anyway, we have our first gig under the belt. It was outdoors so I got to use my full rig and this ended up being the kids' bass rig too. Consequently, I ended up with bass tech duties too. This is my first gig playing with a drummer with an electronic kit. There were no monitors and as well as not hearing the vocals, I could barely hear the drums. We got through our short set ok though. My rig:
  17. As above if you want totally matt, I did my shell pink jazz in satin which is slightly more shiny but not as much as gloss, looks great rob
  18. When I need to doom:
  19. It looks like a Fender width neck but the bridge is a narrow-spaced Hofner type. It'd be resolved by putting a 19mm spaced bridge on there.
  20. Matte clear coat?
  21. Today
  22. Played a small garden BBQ and later a cafe gig (40ish) yesterday with my newly acquired Fender Kingman 2 SS bass. Bass >Zoom B1FOUR (HPF@30hz)>Bam 200 combo 6ins speaker. BBQ gig was fine but I suffered with significant acoustic feedback in the cafe. Adjusted the Notch filter and the phase switch on the Fender badged Fishman pre but couldn't tame the feedback. Do sound hole plugs really work? Anyone with any solutions?
  23. The picking style that Rhiannon is using in the clip is not clawhammer. It is an old-time 3-finger picking style, which pre-dates the modern Scruggs-style bluegrass roll which is normal nowadays. This banjo is also unusual in that it is tuned a 5th lower than normal 5-string G tuning, and I think the strings are probably nylon.
