Hard to know what icon to put on that.

I hope everything goes right and you aren't put through the mill too much on the journey to recovery.

Keep gigging and share your stories.

How was my gig last night? I have no idea, I wasn’t there. It was the first one I’ve ever missed since this band started around 20 years ago. A dep was in my place even though I was fit and able.

Keen readers my remember I mentioned I had a colonoscopy a few weeks ago and the results weren’t what I hoped for.  I’ve since found out it’s not good news at all. There’s no easy way to say it, but it’s proving cathartic to share, so here goes.

It’s cancer, of the rectal variety.

I told my band mates at the time of the first investigation before knowing it was cancer that it will likely mean surgery and treatment very quickly, possibly before Xmas, so they had to organise cover in case I was out of action. The chap they got for a couple of gigs said he had other offers for the same dates, so had to commit, meaning I couldn’t do them whether I was able or not (unless was paid him off).  It was probably for the best though, my head as been all over the place the last few weeks dealing with this.

So anyway, it looks like a rough few months ahead. Radio and chemo therapies followed by surgery, and possibly more chemo after that. Oh and a bag atttached, either temporary or permanent.

Sorry to bring the mood down, but this is the thread I interact with the most with people I know. Besides, I’m still hoping to continue to contribute to the thread with any gigs I am able to do over the next few months, and long after once I’m cured and normality is resumed.

I wish you the best for your treatment and may you have a quick recovery. I look forward to reading about your future gigs. In the meantime keep us posted on how you are doing.

I was just about to say exactly the same as @Stub Mandrel. Best wishes with everything and share as much (or as little) as you wish.

Not great news but positivity always helps. Focus on a positive outcome rather than a gloomy one and hopefully it will help you get thru this AND YOU WILL GET THRU IT Greg.

Us lot are always here for a blether or a chat to get your mind of things. There's always one of us online at any one time so keep us posted and if you need it start a chat page.

Always here for you sir.

The band I had to leave back in March (due to me having a brain-bleed stroke) has been very supportive since then, kept in touch about my recovery and since then have asked me to do 5 or 6 dep jobs with them covering gigs my replacement on bass couldn't do. Latest was last Friday 28th November at a private party in a nice pub in Sherborne. It's gratifying that I still remembered the chords and arrangements for all the numbers I used to do, and could busk the new ones, although I must admit 'Fairytale of New York' unrehearsed was hard going - never played it before and frankly never liked the original! My short sax set (One step beyond, Geno, Tutti Frutti) went down well too; I suppose sdditional saxophony is my unique selling point!

Following on from one of the other threads on this forum, the other band members would clearly like to have me back, and were thinking about hiding some gigs from my replacement so I could play them instead. I must say I felt conflicted - I would love to gig regularly again but I've had this sort of thing happen to me in the past but the other way around. Hmm... advice please!
