Not to flex on somebody else's achievements, but my drummer finished a tour with a broken foot a couple of years ago.

 

Came offstage badly during an encore moment and broke it but still finished the gig before he realised he couldn't stand on it. Luckily we had a couple days off so he got booted at the hospital, me and him went into the studio and he relearned the set playing left foot kick, and then we did the last three gigs. He was taking the boot off so he didn't have to hobble onstage with it which earned him a shouting from the doctor after we wrapped.

 

He's healed up fine thankfully. Wouldn't do it now but you know how it is when you're young and the band is the most important thing to ever thing.

The evening was okay. Very receptive audience! But, possibly the highest ceiling we’ve ever encountered made the low end so boomy. First set sounded terrible in my ears but apparently wasn’t that bad out front. Spent the break tweaking the eq on my B6 and our Bass drum pedals’ module. And, the second set was a lot better.

 

The frustration with of weddings of course is the quick evening turnaround not allowing a fantastic soundcheck & the fact that it’s just the two of us. It’s hard to tweak on the fly when we have issues. 
 

That paired with the fact that I’m still recovering from a pretty bad fall a few weeks ago which blew my knee up like a balloon, thus making it hard to kick my bass drum pedals for 1.5 hours made it one of those gigs where I was in my head a lot and not really as present as I would of liked… Oh well, still a great night enjoyed by all it seems. 
 

4 weddings coming up this week starting tomorrow so on to the next 🙏

 

What's the bass drum setup if you don't mind? It sounds like something I could use

There’s a few different options but we use essentially a Roland electric drum kit trigger with a Roland drum module. We’re running two separate sounds/units through it. One is a kick drum (me) and the other is a snare/tambourine type sound (guitarist).

 

They do a standalone kick drum with a built in module I think which is a simpler route if it’s just a single kick you’re after. But I can’t seem to find a link for it, so it may of been discontinued.

It's hard to find gig video and pics of us ( Maple Road). I don't think anyone in the band except me has any interest in pics or video. It's too bad because we have a theatre gig coming where you could shoot some nice footage.

Would the band not be interested in some pro vids to use for advertising on social media and to get gigs. 

Sometimes you need to fork out a bit of cash for the band. Even a good mate with a Go-Pro or Zoom could do the job. 

I've found some phones have a weird sound system that focuses on vocals and drops the background noise and when singing stops the guitars and bass volume comes back up to normal. Not sure if that's something you select on your phone ?

We're on the same page. I think that would be a great idea. And it wouldn't have to be expensive. Unfortunately I doubt I could sell the idea.

The "bluegrassy" trio did an outdoor busking gig in front of a restaurant at noon today. First time in many years where I have played on a sidewalk, we went acoustic (mandolin, guitar,DB, vocals) except for me on DB who used my Traynor amp to give just a bit more volume. We will be doing another lunch time gig next week and then have a bluegrass festival with the full 5 piece band the following weekend.

Another Wednesday night for me playing rock n roll at a local club. A three piece

band ( guitar, bass and drums ) using the house PA for vocals and our own backline. 

 

A reasonable crowd all wanting to dance, so we obliged with a good selection of

stuff including ‘Flip flop and fly’, ‘Lipstick, powder and paint’, ‘Sea cruise’, and some 

more recent tunes like ‘I knew the bride’ and ‘Rockabilly rebel’. We ended the evening

with ‘Tennessee Waltz’ as a tribute to Connie Francis. 

 

I used my P-Lyte into a Hartke 3500 and my old Loud 4x10. Couple of musos commented

it didn’t sound as good as my Rumble 500 I used last week, and I have to agree. We get to

leave the gear at the club though, and I use the Rumble on other gigs so it’s easier for

me to use this set up , but I maybe do need to consider getting another Rumble at some point.

Its an odd one Daryl as when it was first suggested in our band we all thought it was an excellent advertising aid for posters and sending to venues as a part of a package to get bookings. Doesn't cost a fortune to hire someone maybe at one of your more high profile gigs.

I don't really understand why they wouldn't be up for it ? I'm lost on that one Daryl.

I'm guessing you were booked by the restaurant otherwise you were just "busking" 😂

Correct, we were outside beside the tables they have on their sidewalk patio, the gig next week will be inside the restaurant.

Clarification: I was playing the DB while standing on the sidewalk, hard to get a good sound playing the sidewalk and the concrete is hard on the fingers.🤣

I've had so many good comments about mine that I have no desire for any other amp. Compact, easy fit in the car boot, a one-hand lift, and it looks good too imo - such a great bit of kit!
