Nice to meat you mate!) - I thought the supplies of bass stuff was dissapointing and dismall. To be honest the highlights of the show were my ole mate Andy James playing on the Ernie Ball stand, to an ever increasing crowd... and then.. er.. my ole mate Andy James playing on the LickLibrary stand.. to an ever increasing crowd! Played some Phil Jones stuff .. nope.. doesnt turn me on... and also a six string sandberg.. that was 'ok', but could have been set up better. Anyone who goes, will notice a real lack of some of the 'biggy' names at the show.. Warwick? where? Ampeg? where.....??? Epifani? EBS? - Maybe it would have been better to wait until the London Guitar Show. Failing that, I reckon Namm or Frankfurt are probably on next years visit list.. Come on UK! You can do better! King Tut Posted November 3, 2007 Share Posted November 3, 2007 I went today - and was very disappointed. tried 2 PJB combos - a 2 speaker one and a 4 speaker one. To be honest - my cube 30 was better than both and my cube 100 knocks them into a cocked hat. Nearly bought........... A Dean 8 string - GREAT price A G & L relic - early first series bass - loads of punch An Epiphone Allen Woody But managed to resist them all. I got peed off at the Zoom stand (love zoom fx) cos they've bought out a big geetar multi fx but not a bass one. Really narked cos I missed someone out of 'Muse' doing autographs. Food wasn't to 'rip offey' this year with a pastie for £2.50 parking has gone up to £8 Had a result buying 4 tickets off a tout for a fiver each ....result! And renewed my subscription to BGM No Peavey Boss stall wass tiny No Bass Centre - so no warwick or Markbass Bergantino cabs were AWESOME if not exactly lightweight - saw some dude slapping - and thought it was through a 4x 10 and 2 x 10 - in fact it was thru 2 1 x 12's I'll not go again - I'm sure it was smaller than last year, and last year was smaller than the year before. BassDirect's stand was most impressive, the Skjold was a wonder as well as the Nordstrand Jazz. The Bergantino cabs are seriously good too, worth considering and not badly priced at all. Many thanks to Mark (poptart) for inviting me along. Saw ped and Toasted there too.. I oddly was impressed with the Vintage V1004DX at the JHS stand. A lovely and thick (about 15mm) spalted maple top, with MM/J pickup and active EQ. A steal at £229 I must say: The ErnieBall (stringsandthings.co.uk) stand was also mightily impressive, got a chance to try out an OLP MM32. This was of suprising quality and really did sound pretty damned good. See below for it sat between some of it's US cousins. It's a bass i'd consider to sit along side my Stingray without a doubt. The Ashdown stand was hideously disappointing, a little stand with a few boxes strewn about and a couple of cabs/heads being knocked out cheap. Their stand last year was really quite impressive, was well laid out and had some demos on the go. Had a little chat to Paul Stevens at Trace Elliot too, he has hinted that a remake of the V-Series is on the cards - this will excite some of you i'm sure. Overall the show was definitely a little smaller than last year, still worth a nose around but the ticket price probably is a little extortionate for what you get. Especially when the car parking is £8 and hot dog is £4.50 ! I'm glad I parked in the railway station and took sandwiches . Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Great stuff on the BassDirect stand - loved the Wood & Tronics basses even the single-cut seemed easy to play with my semi-guitarists technique! Also a wonderful fretless on the E Basses stand (in fact the only other fretless at the show that I could see was on the Vintage stand). Got to meet some of the very nice people from BassChat in person. Was also pretty impressed with the PJB combos and will need to try one out under less noisy circumstances with a couple of my own basses. Also got to chat with Trevor Wilkinson and he confirmed that Fret-King are still a going concern and not only that but he's recently completed a Europa Bass with the Gibson Pickup configuaration in white! GAS! However for me the most interesting things weren't basses at all, but: 1. Electric-Babes range of guitars - there is a bass in the pipeline but no details yet, although if it's as good looking as the guitars they had on show that will be another I'll be lusting after. 2. In my long-standing tradition of buying something not at all releated to the instruments I currently play, I bought a [url="http://www.global.yamaha.com/tenori-on/"]TENORI-ON[/url]. Just got back from the show - we (E Basses) have had a good couple of days so far and thanks to all you guys who came over to the stand - have had a lot of positive interest given that the basses are a brand new product and still being developed! Nice to see Mark at Bass Direct - some fine products on display. Mmm! Overall, the show has indeed diminished in terms of the number of stands - one of the main reasons why many smaller specialist makers no longer exhibit could well be the sheer cost of attending - we shared a stand with a fellow Peterborough builder, Ade Hardman of Vanquish guitars to help spread costs. Only a couple of packs of strings! (but i didnt have to drive or pay for parking! Had a go on a trace stack!! blew me away! really helpful Was also dissapointed with ashdown... But im now stuck after playing an EB on whether to get an EB or a warwick! Spector stand was good! poptart Posted November 4, 2007 Share Posted November 4, 2007 Just got back from the show and a bit knackered - I managed to wedge a gig in last night straight after the show and got in at 2AM and then back in at 9am this morning! It was great to meet so many cool bass players over the weekend and lots of basschatters - you know who you are I agree it was somewhat lacking in high end gear and very bass lacking, I hope that myself and Ebass made up for that. Oh dear me what a pile of crap !, He was 20 mins late starting, then his set was just how many noises can I get from a load of processors/foot pedals. He didn't to me show any skill as a bass player. I know this sounds harsh but I really think any of us could have made that kind of noise just as well if not better. I don't like to down any fellow musician but this really was crap ! I've just got in from a full days rehearsal for a theatre show so was not there helping out on the stand at Music Live today but having spoken to Ian, he has had quite a bit of interest in the new range of E Basses which is great! Last year I don't recall there being any.. at all. The bass direct stand was amazing. I must have spent a combined 5 hours over 2 days just in that one stand playing the Roscoe's, Nordy's and the amazing Wood and Tronics basses. I've never ever been fortunate enough to previously have played a true high end bass. Pre-music live 07 my best experience of a bass was an american deluxe fender jazz. That was nice, but it doesn't even come close to what these basses were like. And you basically pay the same sort of price too. The Fender MIA Deluxe Jazz in my local store is priced £2000. Seems like you are paying 50% of that cash for a brand name. Kudos to Mark too, great service at the bass direct stand.
