1. yea i was really shocked, I felt like sh*t when i did the exam and I came out thinking I could have done it way better but apparently not. AS requirements for distinction are Grade 6 pieces + I believe. I'm pretty sure Wooten and Mckee pieces go way into advance Grade 8 stuff. The Bach piece was Grade 7 too so choosing challenging pieces probably helped. The guitarists on Candyrat are just incredible. Don Ross is mind blowing. Beautiful relaxing music too. Some of the best acoustic guitar tones about. Speaking of acoustic guitarists and incredible tone and playing ability, check this guy out: http://youtube.com/watch?v=jwm-vxGgFf4 The tone on the tapping is perfect. I don't know what i'm more impressed by, his tone or his playing both are just brilliant.
2. Last summer I did my AS Music prac. Unfortunately the week I had the practical I was really ill with flu. I did end up doing the prac. I did 3 pieces, a Bach Cello solo piece, You Can't Hold No Groove by mr Wooten and Drifting on acoustic guitar by andy mckee. The last piece is awesome if you don't know it, worth a search on youtube. 11 million views now . I'm sure you'll be fine. Grade 5 is the highest mark band for GCSE so if you are finding those pieces simple I'm sure you'll nail it with top marks. I went overkill on my AS with the pieces though got sort of owned by flu. I did score 100% though Which made me one happy chap for a long while after.
3. I do that alot Yep.. and again: Levitation is my latest trick: That blue t-shirt is my gig shirt btw I do wear other clothes Most of these pics are taken by the same person. He takes stunning pictures.
4. The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff is supposed to be excellent. They do jazz and classical courses there. I myself am looking into doing a course there.
5. I'm flying to the USA next summer to gig there. Next summer it's possible that I will be playing Japan Thats several days of travel as its touring many locations.
6.
I saw the title of this thread and thought it was about actually suffering pain, discomfort or agony for the sake of playing bass..
I thought it was about choosing to be a musician. It's a career most struggle to survive through.
7.
A bump for a gorgeous bass. Seriously tempted, but out of my price range... *hint, hint*
Heh, pm me and we can discuss a deal
8. I think you would like Bergantino gear. A HT112 + EX112 mini rig. Great rigs. Talk to Mark (poptart) from bass direct about them.
9. I have recently taken up singing backing vocals and occasionally singing lead and i'm really enjoying it now. I found that previously the only times I would sing would be to myself and they would be very quiet. Now that I'm singing properly I find that singing with confidence really makes a 100% of the difference. Having the confidence to project your voice singing loud and clear will result in better vocals. If you go half arsed at it your vocals won't be anywhere near as good, or in pitch. It really takes just having the confidence to push out your voice to make the difference. I really believe that everyone can sing and in pitch, its just a difference of how confidently one goes about it. Singing lessons will help anyone a great deal. Learning how to project your voice, using proper breathing technique, warm ups and how to place your voice. Most people will tend to singing from their throat, whereas if you using vocal placing techniques you can sing from the front of your mouth and you can save your voice from being sore after singing for extended periods.
10. Classical Thump But that is just in its own level of bass playing that makes me want to break down and cry Slowly picking it apart though and learning bits and pieces of it. Boogie on Reggae Woman - Marcus Miller figured out the high part to that quite quick and even the intro isn't as hard as it sounds but I always seem to just give up on figuring out the low bass part to that song and end up playing the melody instead. Probably more down to my own laziness. Teen Town Getting Teen Town accurate, tight and clean is hard as hell. Pow - Larry Graham The way he slaps this is so unusual. I can just about do it though not quite accurate. I tried singing it too and it really just gave me even more respect for that guy. For the guy who first slapped on electric bass he sure did go very far with it. LG is a true bass legend.
11.
James You could be right - I have been playing the WT Chronos through the Bergy IP112........... Doh - I have just discovered the Pre amp is the East U retro deluxe 5 knob and has a pull bright on the treble control and a pull passive mode on the passive tone control....oh my, even more great tones available now........ Mark PS: Off for a break now for ten days - catch you all on my return!
Really look forward to trying out an IP series berg cab. I've heard they are incredible and are in a league of their own. Enjoy Hong Kong!
12.
Guys I have a private studio where you can come and try the gear if you are interested, near Leamington Spa. Oh - I am now doing Accugroove by the way, just to make it more tempting!!!! Mark
I look forward to trying out the Accugroove stuff At the moment Bergantino sits on the throne for bass cabs i've experienced.
13. Selling this bass as I'm looking to buy a wood and tronics bass and I need to sell it to help pay for the new bass. It really has a tremendous tone and it is extremely comfortable to play. I often have comments on how beautiful the bass is too. I've owned it for less than a year so it is in great nick besides a couple of small dings and some small finish cracks on the backside of the bass which isn't very noticeable. My only gripe with it is that like with all standard fender jazz basses it is limited to 20 frets. I personally like to have 24 frets for that high G. Here are some pictures of the bass in action: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=7719 I can get more upon request. The best sample of the sound I have is from this video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=gsG5wiWit7g The video was recorded using my looping station, therefore the tone you are hearing is a pure representation of the bass itself. I can get some sound clips for you upon request with solo'd pickups or whatever you want me to do with tone controls. The price of one of these basses new is £1200 on GAK though you then have the problem of not being able to play the bass before you buy it which is something I recommend very strongly particularly with Fender. If you want to try it out I can arrange for you to travel to meet me or alternatively I can bring it along to one of the Bassdirect.co.uk open days. Contact Mark (poptart) to find out when the open days are. The price I am asking for this bass is £875. This bass has also been setup by a professional so it is playing very well and it has a fresh set of Elixir strings on it. It also comes with the deluxe fender hard case, the bridge plate, pickup plate (already attached), thumb rest, fender strap, fender cable, the cleaning kit, fast fret and all the original documents. If you want more info contact me with a PM.
14. Pugz

Ive got my 9

Hah wow and I'm only just expanding to a 5 string now. The way I feel now, I would never go over six if I even went to six which is unlikely. However I thought that about five strings until I played the W&T Klimt
15.
I still can't get past the top horn on the W&Ts. Perhaps it will grow on me...
I wasn't fond of it either at first but just playing it blew any looks issues out the window. Who cares what it looks like as long as its constructed well, sounds amazing and plays incredibly well. It's a musical instrument. How it looks should be only secondary concerns. It's looks have grown on me somewhat though
16.
Great post pugz! --- That's just about every angle covered. edit: loved your piano piece. A few wibbleys but a million miles ahead of me. More practice for paul.
Heh cheers. Yea there were a couple of slip ups. Beautiful piece of music. I should play piano more than I do really. It's my 3rd instrument bass being top then guitar as my second. The venue I'm playing in there I do 2 jam nights a month in that I set up with one of my bands. I play solo bass pieces and lots of band stuff. Also play lots of stuff on guitar there. Last time i did voodoo child which was pretty fun though only me and the drummer knew the song which was a bit dodgey. I'm there again next Wednesday too playing little wing this time, perhaps voodoo child too if I can get someone who knows the bass. I'll post a video if it goes well and I manage to get it on film.
17.
Blige! I'll be checking the South Wales Echo for bank raids then
Haha Indeed!
18. Wood and Tronics Klimt - MAJOR GAS Bergantino Cabs - Also major gas Roscoes Nordy Jazz
19.
Just to let you guys know after the success of Music Live - I will be trying to organise some open day/nights soon in the Midlands area, for starters, to allow Basschatters the chance to try out all this gear again and, if you like, bring your own gear in to A-B it. Mark
Hah awesome, expect to see me at some of them I'll take a train up. Wouldn't mind trying some Bergantino cabs through my GK1001rb-II also. In love with those cabs. Would love to give a blast through the IP series as well. I've heard a lot of great response to those speakers. As it is now the EX/HT112's mini stack had me amazed. The 410 was just as great too. Got my sights set on these cabs.
20.
Had a really good time on Sunday on the BassDirect stand giving out Basschat cards and porn pictures of Mark's gorgeous basses. I was almost cured of GAS for now .. then I played that Wood and Tronics Chronos Klimt .. wooooooowwwww James .. flog the Fender mate. You play way too well for production line stuff ...
That Klimt was for me the best bass at the show. Getting some cash together to buy it I am going to try and sell the fender now along with some old stuff including my first ever bass (Epiphone thunderbird ^^) in order to get some cash for it. I had a band practice when I got back home from the NEC and I had to use my Thunderbird as my fender was unavailable. What a contrast Playing that klimt then 2 hours later playing the Epiphone. I just felt completely spoiled lol. I think any sentimental value I have attached to that bass is easily worth selling for a bit of extra funding for the W&T. Also since playing the Klimt and being able to compare it directly to the fender it really made me realize that a hell of a lot of the money you pay for a fender is in the brand name. The fender is nice, and it certainly is pretty but there's just no comparison.
