Faithless
So, I'm simply interested, which "thing" do you prefer ( look at the poll), and if you're able - explain, Why do you like using [... fingers, pick, both, etc...] - because of particular sound, or it [pick/fingers] simply looks "standart" with bass, or you're "tired" to start learning with some, or something else... gilmour
Fingers, fingers, fingers, fingers and maybe thumb Has anyone ever seen that year and a half in the life of metallica, they can;t record Jason Newsteads bass properly beacuse of his heavy picking, so they build a wall of foam around his amp in order to try and muffle out some of the pick sound and just get the bass frequencies. How could he have not noticed that before! Thinking about it Billy Gould from Faith No More had a crazy heavy pick sound - but he used it to emulate slapping, which begs the question "why not just slap?" Tait
I use mostly pick because of the music I play. I mostly play punk music and the pick is easier to use as well as sounds better for punk. But I do like playing things such as The Red Hot Chili Peppers and for that sort of stuff I use fingers
Johngh
Fingers, because for me it gives more "feel" to what I want to play. I only ever used a plec years ago if I played say 4 gigs on a row and my fingers were shot.
Tinman
Pick mainly because of the kind of stuff the band plays. I'd like to use my fingers more.

Russ
Both. I have no qualms about using whatever technique is appropriate for getting the sound and feel I need for a bass part. For some songs, the fingerstyle groove is all that'll do. For others, I need the up/down articulation and bite that only a pick can give. Pbassred
You didn't list "Thumb only" as an option. Surly that's quite different from fingers.
Jean-Luc Pickguard
Only fingers for me maybe I'd use a pick if we did a song that required the bass to go "dugga dugga dugga dugga dugga dugga dugga dugga", but then again I'd probably just use my fingers I do use pick on geetar though. Faithless
I personally prefer only fingerstyle, because I find it sort of priority with the bass, and some links with Clifford Lee, I think... I only use that which is permanently attached to my wrist to excite the strings, but I vary between conventional fingerstyle, thumb plucking, slapping and strumming. MoJ
Predominantly fingerstyle just because it feels more natural for me. I do use a pick in my current band for one song at the moment, just simply because my fingerstyle doesnt allow me to play extremely fast. lee4
Fingers for most stuff, plec on a few punky songs. I find gripping a plec hurts a bit,but I started out using one but kind of lost the habit.
Paul Cooke
Fingers cos I like the action very low and also play blues and reggae which suit fingerstyle as well... I tend to get carried away with pick and have to have the action right up to avoid buzz... so I can swap over quickly, I keep one P-Bass set up for pick playing. punksoul257
I play mostly with pic but i do the odd slowish song with fingers. never really mastered fingers.
LeftySteve
98% finger style and 5% pick for me. No thumb whatsoever, have tried double thumping, double thumping + pluck etc. Doesn't do it for me! Steve
lowhand_mike
mostly finger though a few songs do require pick so i use that when needed, used to be pick only but fingerstyle i can play alot quicker, would like to be good at slap but just mess with it at the moment. dudewheresmybass
tbh it depends on the song!
BigRedX
I selected both equally. In my current band I play about 75% fingers on fretless and 25% pick on fretted, but that's just because most of the songs we're currently doing suit the fretless and fingers. It all depends on the song.
The_D
I selected mostly finger, some pick. To be fair though it would be MOSTLY finger as we have 4 songs I use a pick on out of the 50 or so we play. I only use a pick then as it needs a little more attack and I can get everything else from my fingers. I have to admit my fingering is coming along nicely
