Any Sheryl Crow love here?

I've been enjoying listening to her greatest hits and obviously that takes you down a rabbit hole of Wikipedia,YouTube etc.

 

Her bass playing is really interesting in as much as she's very subtle, pumping 8ths she is not, and even with the country influence she doesn't really go for the root and 5th thing either. I like it, it's more of a melodic embellishment that she probably doesn't get the credit for. I didn't realise she enjoyed a Stingray either until seeing a clip of her live.

 

Some great tunes, all sorts of genres and great vocals, keys, guitar and of course bass.

I read somewhere a good while back that she like to write on bass.

I think bass is her main instrument or has been at times at least, I'm not sure what she instrument favours for writing or coming up with ideas for songs on, maybe all of them at different times.

I bought her first album on the strength of ‘All I Wanna Do’ when it first came out and was knocked out by the songs and the sounds.  I’ve pretty much kept up with her releases ever since - there’s been the occasional disappointment (C’mon, C’mon) but otherwise lots to love.

 

I knew she played bass as well as guitar but have never been aware of which particular tracks.

I remember watching her appear one morning on the Big Breakfast in the 90s and she was playing keyboard.   Maybe it was the camera shot, but I remember being amazed by the long length of her fingers.  

 

I had her first two albums and still occasionally have a listen.    I just love that rasp in her voice when she goes for it. 

 

I got the impression over the years that she is not precious about the bass, so it is not always her playing on recordings, but I could be wrong.

Always remember watching Sheryl on various TV appearances with her playing a blond P bass, and being very impressed with her playing.

Her documentary is really interesting. I think from memory. she started out as a backing singer and has been ill with cancer. I think she is quite a talent.

I just saw a clip and she says she wrote favourite mistake on the bass, lovely tasteful part too. I think many of her band have been around with her for a long time and like her play most instruments, I do wonder who plays what on the records but I wouldn't be surprised if everyone does a bit of everything.

That's a great example, she's happy to just put a little riff in here and there, less is more kind of thing.

I’ve loved Sheryl’s music since she first became well known. Had the pleasure of seeing her perform at Halifax Piece Hall 18 months ago and she’s still the real deal in my opinion. A great singer, guitarist, bassist and keyboard player. Her band are also one of the best I’ve seen, especially guitarists Audley Freed and Peter Stroud. Her bassist Robert Kearns is a fine player too, and was one of the first people I saw playing Reverend basses. When Sheryl plays bass she has most recently been seen using a Guild M85, although has also used many different Fenders as well. 
If you get chance watch ‘Live at The Capitol Theatre’ on You Tube, fabulous.

Love (most) of her stuff as a listener and I've played more than a few of her songs over the years and he bass lines feel comfortable and the kind of thing that I'd improvise/write.  Lots of respect from me for SC.

Got a few of her albums and she's fantastic, a great voice and a fantastic songwriter

For me it's still "Tuesday Night Music Club" and a few individual songs. Have never followed her career, but plan to do so retrospectively after having watched the  documentary a good number of times.

Must admit my perspective on her is influenced negatively by Kevin Gilbert's story about the mentioned album and its aftermath, in which Kevin painted her in a dim light.

I think it was in Bassist magazine. I remember her saying she preferred it as she didn't have to think about different chord varieties ie major/minor.

I have a friend that attended that Halifax gig, He also said she was excellent.
