Let's not dirty up January any further, I'll have to check back previous years but I think it might be a record breaking one.  Plus international bass purchasing can be stressful so let's not jinx it with a declaration just yet, eh?  We eagerly await your imminent arrival and I'm taking an executive decision to mark your failure down as date of safe arrival.  Not the same thing as getting a next day delivery from Andertons etc. is it?

I'm happy with that decision m'lud.

I'm picking up a hard case for £30 of eBay later.

Does this ount as a teir 2 fail?

It's utterly essential as (1) it seems sensible to use a case to take my Sire to gigs and (2) if I don't get one for it I would have to take another bass out of its case.

1) good score!

2) I think your second point confirms it isn’t essential 😂

A thirty quid case off eBay?  Call it an accessory and be done with it, I reckon.  I like to have separate accomodation for all my basses too, I get it.

I think that I’ve committed a Tier 2 infringement, I’m afraid, but I do have extenuating circumstances. The sound guys at church want us to try using in-ears (which I already have) but I’ll need a small IEM amp. So I got a little Behringer in-line belt pack for 23 quid off Amazon.

I can only apologise for being naughty, but a big boy made me do it and ran away (to behind the sound desk). 😫

All I can say is that if the sound guys at church were so damn keen on everyone using IEMs, they should have provided the necessary equipment.  Making it all work is their problem, no?

I got a tier 2 fail for something similar - although went for the more extravagant Swiff wireless IEM than the cheap and cheerful Behringer!

Oh I know, what's done is done, just pointing out that it's a bit rum that the pressure to do this was external.

They’ve just had to buy a whole new desk because the old one started doing phantom gain and level changes at random on several channels. So getting some ADDITIONAL cash out of the finance committee right now might er… erm… hopeful! In fact, I’ll bet that the additional functionality of a new desk vs one that’s 10-15 years old may be partly behind the experiment!

Did the old desk have wireless control, and if so, did they have a look round the congregation to see if someone had hacked into it?

The word "hacking" is more likely to describe a congregant's cough, rather than how they access an IT device...

Sorry to report I have had a terrible accident.

I accidentally drove to Camden tonight and bought a new gig bag. The old one was very tatty.

Unfortunately the bass I had ordered to just try out, also accidentally left the shop in the bag after I accidentally paid for both of said items.

A terrible state of affairs. I now have 4 basses! I am practically a hoarder now.

That's lovely - another triumph for the thread that pretends it is not encouraging the most extravagant and unneccessary purchases! 🙂

I am out.

Gf bought me my old MTD Super 5 I had a couple of years ago and regretted selling. It doesn't count as unsolicited as we'd swung by BassBros to pick up my Dad's unsold guitar and I spotted it and went OMG.

I'm not sure about this one.  It's certainly nowhere near the specified case of dragging one's other half round the guitar shops, trying a bunch of stuff then they buy it for you.  This is subtler than that.  Reuniting you with an old (bass) flame seems a little different to me.  I mean it was kinda pre-chosen, no?  Honestly, I'm in two minds about it. This is a very specific case of an accidental discovery, rather than a wilful and knowing enterprise of going out specifically to identify a bass for someone else to buy for you.  But on the other hand, it wasn't a total surprise, and there was some influence in the purchase.

What say you, jury?

I bought a lot of guitars and basses in 2025 and none six weeks into this year — so I'm still in. The bass I had on commission at the gallery has sold so I'm actually one down, and I'm planning to sell a few more. I have used my share of a recent gig's money to place an order for three mustang bass mutes for my JMJs. These are scheduled to arrive from the US in early March. I'm not counting these mutes as a breach of the abstinence rules as Leo Fender designed the mustang bass bridge to have a mute, however Fender don't fit or even make them anymore, so I am just facilitating completion of the basses to bring them into correct 1966 specs.

Did he own it when he went in the shop? No.

Did he own it when he came out the shop? Yes.
