My wife had a heart attack on saturday night. Thought it was heartburn but it went to her arms. Took her to the hospital anyway to see and yes, found the markers for a heart attack so was taken in, her BP was over 200.

She has been kept in for tests, and although they don't think it was a serious blockage that needs surgery she has to stay in to be monitored for the next few days.

It is amazing how it shifts your life perspective

Best wishes to you both, Woody, during what is undoubtedly a scary and worrying time

I'm 67 and have been thinking about how long I have left of doing this.
The last few years have been very very uncomfortable at times band-wise, due to a band member who was arrogant and awkward, but who has now thankfully left. When that happened, I questioned whether to carry on or not, and after a day or two I decided to not let the situation defeat me. We auditioned a new, much younger, guitarist and we are playing with a new-found excitement and chucking lots of new material together and playing what we hope are very good shows.

Where this becomes very relevant to this topic is that our drummer is unwell and has been out of the band since July. We have a reserve drummer covering, but it seems more and more likely that our own drummer will not be returning to the band, except to maybe do a couple of occasional short 'guest spots'. That is something that we haven't been able to discuss. He's been very determined to play, but sadly his mobility and medication have interfered with everything. That is an enormous stress for me as he's my friend and we have been in the same band for ten long years, persevering and supporting each other through some rather awkward times to keep things together.

'Do it while you can' is very much my motto these days.
You don't know when it's going to be taken away from you.

As a goodly proportion of the BC membership have female partners and/or are female themselves, it would be worth bearing in mind that the symptoms of heart attack in females have some differences to those in males.

Indeed - and maybe they need to push more too as my wife has asked 5 different doctors over 3 or 4 years if she could have her heart checked as when walking in the cold or walking any real distance she got pain in her neck an the top of her chest, to be told it was variously heartburn or acid reflux.

For some reasons, doctors don't seem to take women very seriously at all.

True. I had an un-diagnosed dairy allergy for 8-9 months, including having to call for an ambulance at one point when I couldn't breathe. But the GP kept brushing me off saying my 'sore throat' was 'just a virus that's going around'. Being overweight compounded the problem of poor medical care of course.

My best wishes for a speedy recovery to Mrs.Woodinblack!
