Took my 15 year old daughter to a gig at rock city Nottingham last weekend.  She suffers from Cystic Fibrosis so as a treat id arranges with their manager for her to go to soundcheck and meet the band.

they were great.  Friendly and chatty with her.  She’s made each of them a bracelet and they wore them for the actual gig.  Then after they were meeting fans, signing stuff, and recognised and said hi to my daughter.

I find it rare that bands are that accessible to fans.  It really made her day.

I think that’s great, it might not seem like much to the bands but things like this have a real impact on fans, well done to them (and all bands who do similar).

I made myself accessible but nobody wanted to talk to me. 😮‍💨

That's the life of the bass player!

I'm invisible when I take mine off 😕

Depends what kind of music you’re into. This has always been a thing in the punk scene. It’s very common to be able to meet and hang out with bands at merch, by the van, or just in the venue. Even bigger bands (although maybe not the arena or stadium bands) will still tend to do this.

Yeah this is fantastic.

I’ve just come back from Disneyland and the effort they go to there to make the attraction accessible and inclusive is brilliant. My daughter has a disability and they couldn’t have done any more for her.

Appreciate Disneyland is not everyone’s cup of tea (mine included) but have to shout out to them.

I've always found bands to be friendly towards fans and more than happy to have a chat if they have time.

I was at a gig last year to see Mondo Generator, a band fronted by ex Queens Of The Stone Age bassist Nick Oliveri and he was really cool, just hanging out chatting to fans right from when the doors opened until he went on stage. While the local support act were on, he was stood next to me head banging away. That's how it should be done.

Craig Charles does things a different way. Grumpy b'stard. I was only trying to tell him he'd dropped his wallet.

Surely the impact would have set off car alarms. 😝

When I did Robot Wars I wasn't sure whether to approach him or not - being as I'm rather shy and he was sat in a corner reading the paper, I decided against it. Philippa Forrester was much more approachable in Techno Games.

And somewhat easier on the eye...

I met him in Manchester and he was taciturn and rude. Turns out it was the night before he was going to be outed by the press for smoking crack so he had a reason!

They seem like a great band, and nicely done to them for that.

I must admit I'm not a fan of meet and greet for anything - music / film etc, but I can see the appeal particularly for younger fans.

For me, I like the mystery of not knowing anything about them. I find it easier to just watch the performance then. Knowing the real person for me somehow diminishes the stage persona / role.

Thankfully he was saved by the funk. "Free Your Mind And Your A$$ Will Follow..."

Queens Of The Stone Age

I was buying lunch in the BBC canteen a number of years ago when a big bloke came and tapped me on the shoulder and said "I see you're into Guzzis!" (the t shirt and belt buckle gave it away). Turned out it was Josh Homme and we ended up having lunch together and talking Mandello Stuff!

Another time (beeb canteen again) I bumped into a guy who was in the Weeds with me back in the early days - Chris Haskett. He said "Come and sit with us"... So I did - "us" turned out to be Henry Rollins and Melvin Gibbs. We discussed Sonny Sharrock and Defunkt.

None of 'em were at all grumpy, though I was a bit in awe of Melvin!

I'm a huge QOTSA fan and never knew Josh was in to bikes. That's another hero point then! I've always wanted a Guzzi as well. Not had one yet but a V100 Mandello could be next.

Josh named my youngest daughter, we saw QOTSA in 2011 while my wife was heavily pregnant (we had seats) and the first song they played was Go With The Flow so she's called Flo. The second song was Regular John so we had an option if it had been a boy.
