AndyTravis Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Well… I love 51’/tele basses. Had a very nice custom shop “sting” and have had a MIJ reissue at some point. Saw this on a facebook page and just went for it. Thanks to @walshyfor doing the middleman bit. So spec is Fender neck - stripped, nitro refin guitarbuild ash body, nitro BSB fralin pickup Gotoh reverse machineheads bakelite pickguard bakelite saddles etc some posh pots and capacitors etc. Fender covers all slot-head screws as per early 51’s needs some tweaks to suit, but it’s ace. slightly heavy at 10.5lbs…but it’s a resonant chunk. 21 Quote
Beedster Posted May 1 Posted May 1 '51s are the new black Andy. You watch, this time next year they'll all be playing them 👍 3 Quote
neepheid Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Why do you think I have a Sire D5? That itch has to be scratched sometimes... 1 Quote

bloke_zero Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Bakelite saddles? I've never seen that before. How do they sound? Or is that a weird question. Quote
kodiakblair Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Saw that one myself and was sorely tempted. Congrats on a fine looking bass 👍 1 Quote

However, a D5 is ridiculously tempting alternative at the price, even when you factor in possibly retrofitting a Lindy Fralin noiseless p/up. What’s the weight like on yours, Neep? Quote

What’s the weight like on yours, Neep? Unremarkable? But just for you, I'll give it a wee weigh when I get home from work. Might be later on - got band tonight ('Spoons). 1 Quote

What’s the weight like on yours, Neep? 4kg / 8.8lbs - bathroom scales and I couldn't be arsed taking the leather strap off so make of that what you will. 1 Quote
