Well…

I love 51’/tele basses.

Had a very nice custom shop “sting” and have had a MIJ reissue at some point.

Saw this on a facebook page and just went for it.

Thanks to @walshyfor doing the middleman bit.

So spec is

Fender neck - stripped, nitro refin

guitarbuild ash body, nitro BSB

fralin pickup

Gotoh reverse machineheads

bakelite pickguard

bakelite saddles etc

some posh pots and capacitors etc.

Fender covers

all slot-head screws as per early 51’s

needs some tweaks to suit, but it’s ace.

slightly heavy at 10.5lbs…but it’s a resonant chunk.

Bakelite saddles? I've never seen that before. How do they sound? Or is that a weird question.

The original Fender Precision Bass had bakelite or even wood saddles...

'51s are the new black Andy. You watch, this time next year they'll all be playing them 👍

I’ve started looking them now 🤦🏻. Bass Freaks have a very nice Maruszczyk in natural that has caught my eye.

Why do you think I have a Sire D5?  That itch has to be scratched sometimes...

However, a D5 is ridiculously tempting alternative at the price, even when you factor in possibly retrofitting a Lindy Fralin noiseless p/up. What’s the weight like on yours, Neep?

Unremarkable?  But just for you, I'll give it a wee weigh when I get home from work.  Might be later on - got band tonight ('Spoons).

Have to admit…selling one very expensive bass and turning it into 4 less expensive basses is a new trick…

also…the next shiny thing is en route but it’s to replace my Old Pacifica electric guitar…

4kg / 8.8lbs - bathroom scales and I couldn't be arsed taking the leather strap off so make of that what you will.

That puts it the right side of the 4kg limit (I have shoulder/neck issues), thanks for that.
