If you fancy owing essentially the same bass as me:

I actually played this bass when I was in Aberdeen a few months ago. Definitely replacement pickups but they sounded great. Neck was in better condition than mine.

I nearly bought it, but I didn't because it would just be a back up to the bass I already have. I do really love the neck profile of the Precisions from this era.

That’s been on there for quite a while and still advertised as all original parts. Did they mention that to you when in the shop

The guy in the store told me that the pickups had been changed before he even plugged it in. I think that it is a website description error rather than a case of the dealer being deliberately shady.

I don’t think they are being shady, just not up to describing it correctly. I recently spoke to Steve at ATB guitars who had some errors in their Vintage bass listings and corrected, human error 🧐

No problem, thanks for looking. I had a similar feeling when I was looking for the strap button I thought I had (couldn't find it). Never mind, tbh it's dead weight anyway isn't it?

Send me your address and I’ll send it to you when I can find a stamp.

Don’t have the screw to go with it.

Yours if you’ll use it.

(These were from a vintage bass that I swapped to Straplocks. I genuinely can’t remember age and all that.)

This one popped up on Facebook - UK Bass Marketplace - Buy, Sell & Trade, but you can find it on his actual website too.

It looks the business, and whilst quite pricey, the main reason I'm posting here is that he claims it weighs just 7lbs 13oz, and that is astonishing for a 70's P bass if it's true.

Does anyone know the dealer, or has had any dealings with him?

Rob

I was in contact with the owner of this bass a few months back but lost touch with him, he sold it for a lot less than this asking price and yes he said it was extremely light, my missed oportunity...

Hi Rob, I’ve spoken with Phil many times but we’ve never actually done a deal, last time was his 72P, he’s mainly guitars but does get some decent basses sometimes

I very much doubt that you, or anyone else, will ever use that strap button, so a pickguard screw will do the job just fine IMO. A small plug of cocktail or match stick in the hole should help if it seems a little loose
