I want a P bass, but would like one on a budget; with P copies in abundance from 70's JapCrap to modern day copies, I'd be interested in hearing everyone's opinion.

So what are the best non-Fender P basses you've played?
My '79 Yamaha BB800.
SX why because I have never owned any other P bass :)
+1

The Rondo Music SX P bass I had was really good (as were the jazzes from the same source), especially with a Gotoh 203 bridge added. A bargain at $99 plus postage duty etc from the US - About £150 all in.

I like the Jim Deacon 62 P bass.

Usually around £120 from high street music shops.
It has a "nicer" headstock shape than the SX's ...

The Squier's are worth trying too.

What's your budget?
I thank you. Its Fiesta Red using nitro-cellulose so it should wear like a vintage bass if only I played it enough :)
Offer to cycle it round teh forum for a few months ... I'm sure it would get some "road worn" milage

Me first :D
