Geek99 Posted December 7 Posted December 7 I’m trying to learn Jolene and “the other bit of the chain”. I tried the latter on a “wing it basis” and “smashed it” according to the OM hostess but I didn’t get it right enough for my satisfaction (root notes and the occasional slide” was my winging it attempt) Quote

All you can do is the obvious - play it slowly with a metronome and then build up speed. As I said before, I play it with hammer-ons live, I can't play fast enough to pick every note! If you have to play it with a band, just play the pentatonics - no one will know the difference! I played it this way when a band got me up at a gig a few months ago. A mate in the audience who plays in a very well known band, came up to me afterwards to say how great I sounded - obviously, I didn't tell him that I had played the 'cheat' version! 😉 Next ones to learn are 'Ramble On' and 'Good Times Bad Times', both of which are a pretty decent workout for any bass player! Sean Posted Wednesday at 20:25 Posted Wednesday at 20:25 (edited) Me, with my Spectors, Tech21 DP-3x and a plectrum are learning Star Girl by McFly and Shut Up and Dance by Walk the Moon. I've also this week learned Chelsea Dagger, Zombie by Jamie T not the song of the same name by Cranberries. I'm having a whale of time. It's genuinely refreshing to be playing material I'd never listen to. Edited Thursday at 09:45 by Sean 1 Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted Wednesday at 23:48 Posted Wednesday at 23:48 Kellie's Heroes by Black Grape. No tab and not very clear. Found some lives that seem to confirm my suspicion it doesn't follow the chord changes and there are a couple of more interesting bits, at least live. Quote

Reggaebass Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago (edited) I was watching a series on Netflix last night and briefly caught a song in it that I’d never heard before , I instantly liked the Bassline and found out that it’s Talking Heads and psycho Killer , I’m gonna give it a try, it doesn’t sound too difficult , very catchy Edited 8 hours ago by Reggaebass 1 Quote

Must be quite an experience hearing it for the first time as a bass player. Timing is everything, surprising how many bands can kill it not in a good way). Edited 8 hours ago by Stub Mandrel 1 Quote

Ive heard of talking heads but I don’t think I’ve heard that one, I’m finding it better to fret the A rather than using the open A like I’ve seen in some covers, nice Bassline Quote

I wouldn't (and didn't when we did it) play it as an open A, but I think she does, but also bends the previous note so it is not on pitch 1 Quote
