I need a wedding band for August 2014

So, I need a wedding band for the evening at my own wedding next year. I'm having a hard time (read 'nightmare') finding one that both me and my fiancé find 'good' and would like at our wedding.

As you can imagine being known as a musician to your friends, there is the expectation that the music on the day will be top notch. I've currently got a big band lined up for the day.

I'm looking for 4/5 piece that can play a varied party set including modern pop in the buckinghamshire/northamptonshire area.

Please put your recommendations or your own band links here if you play in one, for me to check out.

My drummer is in a covers band...not my bag particularly, but well, there you are. They have a percussionist who plays with them called Joe Beckett who's play with some very big bands (incl. Weller/Numan etc.) I can put you in touch if you're interested.

Who was the band on here that did the awesome promo video with the blue tuxedos etc? They were great, and they travel if I remember rightly.

Only issue might be that the truly outstanding bands are probably booked at this point :( Wedding season is mad like that.

That'll be EBS Freak above :)

We're available a couple of weekends in Aug www.crudemeasure.co.uk but we may be a bit "cheap" for you - although quality is decent (drummer is pro and singer is top drawer). I used these guys for my wedding www.indefinately.com and they were great. Quality playing is clearly important to you but I'd advise that as long as the band are good and tight the music selection will be more important for your guests.

Bit boring but budget will make a big difference.

I know some seriously good players but they are pretty expensive.

This is who I booked for my daughter's wedding next year

Good luck with it! I've managed to avoid the expenditure and stress by not having a band. First I'd be far too groomzilla about it, second wedding band fees are better spent elsewhere. And I've not seen a cliché-free wedding band setlist in forever.

That's odd, works fine on iPhone, iPad and iMac for me.

Just search for The Sway Orchestra. One of the leading function bands around, they've played all over the world at some very high profile corporate events.

People expect the clichés!

OK - hat in the ring time: My band ChartBeat - stripped down 3-piece playing mainstream pop covers. The formula is big hits that you can dance to, from Elvis to Take That, so no Steely Dan album tracks! Demo here.

We have all played plenty of weddings, but not yet in this band format.

If interested, PM me for competitive quote and availability.

We are a bit more genre specific but Weddings and Functions is all we do.

Check out the opening paragraph of the wikipedia entry for cliché: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clich%C3%A9 - Fine for some, but not for me thanks! I'm not trying to put down any particular wedding band or anyone's involvement in the same - but it's not for my wedding.

Thanks for all your replies people. Very helpful! I'll check out all the links over the next few days. Hopefully something will be suitable.

As for budget, I'm willing to pay what I would think is a good rate. But as example, one 4 piece band quoted me £3000, to which I said it is too much for what we would have got.

We're not cheap but that seems a bit wide of the mark...... Who was the band that quoted that?

www.the-overlook.com

Female lead singer

lots of backing vocals

We get kids involved (if you have kids there) - get them singing Jessie Jay 'Price Tag' or something.

Very thorough, we can either sit in the back ground and be invisible or be brash and up front and interactive.

Will learn and play specific tunes on request

The set list is massive; 50's/60's rock and roll, 70's disco and funk, 80's ballad rock, 90's Dance/pop and rock and then stuff like Kylie, Bruno Mars, Arctic Monkeys

Happy to send and agree on specific set lists and intervals too

Happy for musical people to fill in on songs on our kit (done this a few times with guitar playing and bass playing guests who want to do 'Johnny Be Goode')

We also use our kit for announcements/speeches (coralling people) and stuff like 'Auld Lang Syne'.....radio mic's!
We charge ~£1000 most events.

** we are lovely people who are married with kids and actually enjoy entertaining! And no doubt the singer will buy you a wedding gift!

***We have a residency at a club in Windsor, so happy to send details if you want to see us live.

Congrats by the way! Glad you are able to get involved - I kinda got shoved out of the way organising my wedding.....literally turned into a cash machine!

Very difficult... I wouldn't book a band myself unless I had heard them...for anything....pretty much.
I far prefer word of mouth from trusted people rather than show reals...but sometimes showreals is all you have to go on...

There is a lot of pressure charging good fees.... so I wouldn't take a punt on less than £1000, but then I would want to see the big difference if paying £2000.

BEST wedding band I know are a swing type 4 piece... you just can't go wrong with this band, IMO.
They describe themselves as swing jazz so if you can cope with that,..perfect

Can be arranged to any format you like, can even have a bigger horn section, more guitars, backing vocals etc. All members are working session pros with tv, touring experience etc etc.

Check this for any other information
