I had mine for a few months and it was a nice bass but ultimately it felt like a toy and it lacked any character when compared to a Jazz or a Warwick. That and you fall in to the potential pitfall of becoming a Mark King clone. I don't think I've ever seen one played by someone who isn't ripping off MK licks or playing Level 42 profusely.

I actually traded a few basses and cash for the stingray, like I said I'm using basses to build up to a cash amount of the Kingbass. Which I will settle on believe it or not

Theres a bit of a moral/ethics problem in this which can be frowned upon here. You may find some people are ok with it but expect some people not to be.

That is to say if the value of your trades and cash didn't equal upto the amount you're selling for

I'm concerned you may have been ripped off if you're putting a value of £1050 on it. A Stingray like that is worth £650 to £750. Tops. A bass similar to this one (maybe the same one) was on ebay recently and didn't sell at a BIN of £900, which is no real surprise. You might get £900 for a 2H or a piezo in an unusual colour, but for a bog-standard honeyburst 1H from 1992... that's spendy... unless you're a shop in London.

I wasn't chosen either.
I tried one chez Status, and the damn thing wouldn't hang right on me. Even Dawn said so.
I bought a Streamline instead.
And what a waste of money that had proven to be... I have basses that cost a third as much that don't look/feel like a toy, and sound better...

I've always enjoyed the look, feel and sound of a mk1 Kingbass. They're one of those basses that has been on the menu for me for a while but I've never went for one. Yet. Mind you, back when I had my old 80's Series II, I considered that the pinnacle of Status basses that I had tried until that point and once I sold it I had had my fill of them, for a while.

You always go back.

I still love the sr it's just selling it would allow me to get a kb quickly that's all , if it doesn't sell quick ill keep it

Like I say its your income and you can do as you want. You don't need to justify yourself to anybody here or anywhere else. Just an observation.

I have been there dude. Back in the 80's I ploughed thru Wal's, Alembics, Vigiers, SR's, vintage Fenders, Status's, Jaydee's, Steinberger, Rick 4001's etc etc etc. Took me a while to realize that I was never happy with anything after the initial buzz had wore off.

I've been through this although not as bad as Mr Bell. I've found Warwicks and Jazzes suit me, and I love them, but as I can't spend new money I have bought and sold and lost money finding this out.

I just sold my dream Warwick to buy a truly lovely 83 USA Jazz. I really feel it's me. I wonder how long that sh*t will last.

The fact is, I've been playing a LOT recently, and I love doing it on that Jazz. The more you play, and I mean, at least a couple of hours a day more than you usually do, the pleasure of a new bass totally pales in comparison to the thrill of finding your playing and imagination has improved so much so quickly, by actually f***ing playing and improving. Instead of looking in FOR SALE and having a w***.

I bought a Squier jazz from Marcus a few years back - I'd say a King bass suits him fine - seemed apparent to me the guy can play.

And clear he's optimising the market to get back to what he lost.

It's all well and good trading and selling like there's no tomorrow, I know a lot of us are all guilty of that, my count must be at 60+ basses ranging from £100 to £4500. But to start a bunch of threads and post in every possible related thread about how much you love that instrument and how it's "the one" and to be over the moon with it when you finally get it only to then put it back up for sale within days because you fancy something else and thus a subsequent thread follows...it gets a bit silly really.

We all know what will happen if Marcus is fortunate enough to get another Kingbass, and that is probably to put it up for sale and hoping to move on to an Alembic MK signature, which would require selling everything he owns including his car.

You have a point Marcus - a collection of basses used as savings is more colourful than cash in the bank. And these days, with well selected basses, you can earn a bit more interest.

We all get a temporary buzz from getting a new bass. If a series of new-bass-day buzzes helps get you through life with a smile on your face, then fair play to you.

The value of a bass is a function of what the seller perceives it to be and what a buyer is willing to pay. Some folk may, for example, want a specific, difficult to find, age and colour combination and (depending on how they value their time) be prepared to pay a couple of hundred pounds more in order to avoid scouring eBay, Basschat and Talkbass for months. Advising Marcus that he might sell quicker at a lower price is one thing. But starting to pontificate about ethics is another. If basses like ours get sold for a good price, then it helps the value of our investment, right?

Marcus, if it works for you, keep it up. I, and many others, appreciate seeing pics of nice basses appearing in the forum's various porn threads, along with the entertainment value from the "how long will he keep it" and the "oh-oh, here we go again" posts. And another thing which I think we all appreciate is that people like you are keeping the Basschat marketplace from stagnating.

Just one final thing - xilddx does make a very valid point. Don't let all this buying and selling distract you from playing. That wouldn't be so good at all.

I can honestly say that, after owning dozens of basses (I am too scared to actually count) the best I have ever done is to break even. I must be doing something wrong!
