Running two combos together..

Greetings..

Probably a daft question but will go along with it anyway..

I've got a 1x15 300w combo + 4x10 300w combo

Can I run both of these at the same time? Should I?

If so, how? Line out? Tuner out? DI out?

How does it work? Will I end up blowing myself up?? Or will I end up with a 600w(?) stack?

Thanks!

I can't see any particular problem if that's what you want to do.

Avoid the DI output though because that's usually balanced and amp inputs are usually not.

I'd take the line out of one combo into the active input of the other.

Turn all the gain/volume controls right down at first and gradually adjust them to see how it sounds.

It's not a daft question, but why do you think you can't do it?

You can use a split lead or if the combo's have them the Send/Return.

If you want to DI just choose which one you want to send to FOH.

Sounds like you need to upgrade to a good extension cab, then separates.

I have a TU3 but I run a limiter right after it as I don't like the peaks of my playing...

At the end of my signal chain is ceb3... I could run out of the two outputs into the two combos?

Just put the tuner last in the chain, it wnt affect tuning, id just leave all as it is tho and go line out into the active input on the second combo

Why's that then?

I can stacks them???
Experiment & try stacking them, but I would think having 2 different sounding combos with different sized drivers stacked might present tonal issues. Though you could have them both set up completely different from one another, with one handling the lows & the other the mids & up (though this also might take a bit of setting up too).
Having one each side of the stage would give you a broader range across the audience. Each side would most likely get a different sound to the other but if you want to play with stereo, you could have fun.

Yeah I was thinking... The 1x15 for the lows and the 4x10 for mids...

I'll try when I get back from holiday and see what happens! Just hope I don't blow myself up!!!

The line out from the 1x15 should be ok! And try the two outputs from the ceb3 method too..

yeah line out from the 1x15 into the 4x10.

it was heard 100 yds away.. my friend said as he came back into the building afterhours and could hear me from the main road!

huge success!

Aarrgh! A 'smile' on the graphics. Sorry but did you use your ears or your eyes to set that!?

Theorically, if you put the 1x15 in the bottom and change that smile EQ, you should be hear more accurately. With more definition and punch.

Mi suggestion with the eq is boost everything under 800hz and cut the rest in the 1x15, and just the reverse in the 4x10

theoretically

Congrats for your Trace porn Elliot Stack

I'd use the 4x10 for the lows & the 15 for the mids as the 15 should have a better dispersion & the 4x10 should be able to shift more low end.

Going by the smiley eq, was you an 80s hifi fan?

Hey why you guys be hatin me smiley EQ? :P

To be honest I didn't mess around too much with the sliders and buttons.. I was having too much fun with the strings and pedals!

The 115 sits on the 410 cos I fitted castors on the 410.. Makes sense really, it's the heavier of the two and is larger..

I will have a play around and swap the EQ around and see what works better... The 4x10 doesn't IMO cover the lows very well compared to the 115... The 410 is more punchy but doesn't flap the same way as the 115.

Another config I might try is clean+dirty rather than the chain.. Which one would be better for the clean? The 115?

Oh and I was a 90s kid... But the 80s was where I left the hairspray and doc martens :)

I used to think about doing this. But I never owned two suitable combo's at the same time. I would love to do it on guitar though (if I ever play guitar live in a band)

I cant beleive though that either of those combo's on their own wouldn't be more than adequate! haha

Do it. You won't be disappointed

I'm thinking about going for a clean and dirty blend. Yeah.

Just experiment with all your possibilities, and see which yu like the sound of the best.

I've run two combos at gigs. Works well and leaves lots of room for really full tones with the added plus of being able to add effects or distortion where they'll be heard and not mess up a clean low end. The sound men that i've used a bi amp rig with didn't really mind as we only had one guitarist at the time
