Martin Turner must be one of the most underrated bass players in the UK! Check out Sorrel on Wishbone Four too. Martin plays a Gibson Thunderbird, which has a wonderful growling tone. Check out what MT's doing on 'Leaf and Stream' as well, there's a lot more going on in there than meets the eye. (ear?) I don't recall seeing one and though I've tried to work out a few bits of some of their songs it would be nice to have something more definitive. I'm always on the look out for good music books. Dot or tabs, but preferably both! I wouldn't hold out much hope for WA transcriptions though. I did loads of on line searching to try to find some Free* transcriptions, and couldn't find anything apart from Alright Now. Cosmo Valdemar Posted September 18, 2012 Share Posted September 18, 2012 (edited) Argus is definitely one of my favourite albums in every aspect, but particularly Martin's incredible Thunderbird tone and playing - Sometime World should be far more well known than it is, such a fantastic bassline. WIshbone Four has some great basslines and tones, particularly the aforementioned Sorrel, but ropey production and slightly lacklustre songs let it down. "Interesting" fact - MArtin's tone is the sound of the Thunderbird neck pickup only, sent theough two amps - one clean and bassy, one toppy and driven. I recently saw MT's Wishbone Ash and these days he's using a Hartke head for the clean lows and an Ashdown ABM for drive, all through Ashdown MAG cabs. He also had a Blackstar pedal for boost when soloing - sadly he buggered up the solo to Why Don't We, and looked rather annoyed with himself. Soundwise, it was his classic tone through and through. It would be great if Wishbone Ash reformed with either Ted Turner or Laurie Wisefield! Both existing versions of Wishbone Ash are very good in their own right but I feel that they won't EVER be as good as Wishbone Ash with Andy Powell AND Martin Turner.
