I knew nothing about them at the time and friend who had seen them previously dragged me along. One of his work mates who also came to the gig was from Dublin and knew them personally so we got to chat with Bono and the Edge afterwards. I was 14, and along with half my class - ie the lads - had (in a rare display of unity) refused point blank to go on the "official" end of year class trip to see Kajagoogoo . I'm mean WTF, Kajagoogoo?? Our form tutor took sympathy and said fair enough and he would sanction an alternative class trip to "some other event" of our choosing - if we organised it entirely by ourselves. He went a bit pale when he found out what we booked...and paler still when the support act (Anvil) opened the show with guitars played with vibrators. On the whole I'd say it was the most educational school trip of the whole miserable five years. (edit: line up was Lemmy, Philthy Taylor and Robbo Robertson - I didn't make the Thin Lizzy connection until years later!) Saw the first two songs (can't remember what they were) before the bouncer slung us out for being way too young to be in that part of the world. In the middle is a little fanfare like synth solo. More than anything ever , in my life , hearing that solo acts as a time machine for me. [/quote] I saw Humble Pie at one of the Reading festivals.......before they came on their roadies came out and put a big sheet down on the stage....we wondered what the heck that was about.....Stevie Marriott proceeded to gob all over the floor in between every song!!!!!! [/quote] Yes, they were very entertaining, gig was at Loughborough Art College as I was living in Nottingham at the time. Never got to see them again though unfortunately. Seen Wishbone Ash several times over the years and quite a few bands at Nottingham Uni which was just about within walking distance home ! Absolutely superb, Dimebag one of my favourite guitarists, Vinnie Paul also a favourite drummer of mine, Phil Anselmo great front man and Rex solid as ever on bass.
