BassGear relocation sale

I have got myself on the mailing list for BassGear, Phil Nixon's (aka BC'er Born 2B Mild) high-end bass retail venture, as I am awaiting the arrival of an Aguilar TH 500 (Tonehammer) amp. I'm not sure if other BassChatters are aware that Phil is relocating darn sarf (currently he's in Harrogate) and that he has a big relocation sale on. There's some very useful discounts, for example, on BagEnd cabs (£100+ off) and some whopping reductions on the higher end basses he stocks (eg, a grand off a rather pretty Alleva Coppolo two-tone sunburst Precision that Chuck Rainey has had his paws on and £250 off a Zon 5'er). Worth a look IMHO, if only for a bit of porn gazing :)

This is dangerous for me on soooo many fronts!

Moving anywhere closer to me is obviously the long term danger but the sale prices on some of the stuff Phil has up for sale are horribly tempting too :)

I've had my eyes on one or other of those Alleva Coppolo KPB4's for a while. The Chuck R one is nice but the crazy metallic cherry burst is my favourite, looks like fun 'stage' bass to play under bright lights, lol.

I really like the Fodera NYC's as well - I 'borrowed' this red flamed maple baby for a while & loved it :)

The real 'bargains' are those Zon Standards at under £1,000 though. I was at the Yorkshire bas bash and right towards the end of the day someone plugged this one into a little MarKbass combo & it sounded great - everyone left in the place turned slowly round to see who/what was being played & a couple of others tried it & said how nice the Zon / MarkBass pairing sounded:

The other thing I'm seriously tempted by is the Bag End powered cabs. I've got a BE 15" & a 10" and I really like them. The idea of one of these with a tiny little 1000w power amp in them sounds great. I think you can plug an active bass straight into one & you're away. Even cooler would be to use something like a Sansamp 3 channel pedal (which I just happen to have sitting right next to me now!) and use that as the pre-amp straight into the cab.

I've been looking at the Berg & Bag End powered cabs for a while but they've always been up around the £1,300+ mark. Phil seems to have a few different speaker configs all reduced to £999.

Right - where's this month's bank statement. . .
Someone really needs to snap up the BagEnd 12" at £350, that's a steal.
Totally agree - I've gigged with just my 10" at pub rock volumes so I reckon the 12" would be a great little standalone cab.

Maybe I could go for one and stack it between my 15" & 10" and start building a Bag End pyramid :)

I don't think it's confirmed yet - I think I saw a message on their FaceBook profile somewhere http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001212515302

that it would be about 30-40 minutes west of London :)

That oiled birch 15" is a pretty funky standalone cab at £450.

Looks much nicer in the flesh than it does in the pics :)

I wasn't even thinking about it... :) And I won the premium bonds yesterday, but the £25 wouldn't even cover the postage!

Hopefully they'll be sold soon, so I won't have to think about it.

Wow - just saw a message on their FaceBook page that says they reduced a Purple Chili 2x15" Neo cab right down to £325!

Seems an amazing for something like this?

 • 1 month later...

I see Phil has announced the new location now :)

Short walk to Twyford Station which just happens to be about 20 minutes from me - hooray!

He told me that quite a lot of business had come from overseas customers who flew into Heathrow so he'll be really close for them. Also got a fair bit of business out of London, & Twyford is only about 40 minutes from Paddington (it's where I have to change to come home from town on the train) and should be under an hour driving from central London too

Looking forward to the shop opening & hoping some of the 'relocation sale' stuff is still available :)

He's just lent me a Tone Hammer 500 to try out against my Aguilar AG500 & Thunderfunk TFB550 - spent an hour or so this evening playing them back to back with a series of different basses.

Great fun and the TH500 at £600 for such a good tone from a small package is pretty tempting. . .

I like the TH500. Its a good old school sound - I am not sure the hi fi slappers (you know what I mean) would be so keen, but for meat n potatoes rock and old style funk/R&B its great - I will be sticking with mine :)

PS, good luck Phil, will pay you a visit after the summer
