Westone Thunder 1a was my first bass...I'm waiting to find a 11a or 111a with a broken headstock so I can fit it with a headless system.

Hope that I don't have to wait in vain...hang on a minute...who said that???

Ah, I had this 1a back in the 80's (not a great pic), also had a Thunder Jet for a short time, but eventually outed both of them after I got the Thunder 11's

Lovely! I just spent the am between my Electro and BBN4 fretless basses. Currently in the “useless at fretless” phase (I think every fretless player gets what I mean) so putting in some extra practise.

Here's an early Tokai Jazz (c.1981?). Originally fretted, the bass has a small issue with the truss rod so a few years ago, while the repair chap had it on the bench, I asked for it to be converted to fretless (now has a nice Indian Rosewood board).

Ned Callan 'Cody' bass - converted to fretless, changed pup to DiMarzio, coil-tapped.
This really is one from the archives, hence the slightly fuzzy pics. I had this bass back in the 70's (along with it's little brother, Ned Callan 'Cody' electric guitar).

Is it me or do other people start questioning the need for playing bass with frets when you have a couple fretless basses in your midst?

That looks just like my ESP 400 Jazz that would of come off the same production line as your Tokai and Japanese Fender's from that era.

Here's my Yamaha BBG4AII.

It was fretless when I got it, done by a pro. Plays nice and sounds pretty good, and light as a feather.

Worked on setup yesterday (the guy who assembled these for me apologised for not having time before Easter hols hit hard and assumed I’d want it sooner rather than later), god I love how low a fretless can be to the fingerboard.

Yeah, that's nice! Not a million miles away from the TRB series.

One more from the archives - not an exact replica, this is a 'tribute to Jaco' Jazz Bass made by a British luthier which I acquired about 10 or so years ago. Action and pups needed a bit of sorting for live work which I never did get around to doing. I eventually sold it on to a non-playing Jaco fan who wanted to hang it on his wall. :)

Not just you. It’s happening to me too. I’m keeping my fretted basses, though, I know I like to play them too. Just not so much these days, playing with your fingers feeling the string and the wood of the board  is highly addictive. 🙂

It’s the bass equivalent of going outside with no knickers on.

Some folks prefer that though; mostly on here too, the filthy deviants. 😄

And a replacement pickguard I guess? Looking great!

Thanks 🙂 Replacement pickups, guard, finish, decal and pots. Fingerboard had already been replaced, so I didn’t feel bad about further modifications.

Why did you replace the pickups? Were they broken?

Sadly, they had already been replaced before I bought it.

I always pack a spare pair of clean knickers before heading out. (Plus all kinds of other shite  boys probably don’t want to know about.)

I always aim to come home with an additional pair of knickers! 😘😄

(In the same fantasy world where I'm a millionaire playboy surfer-spy, of course).
