Just got a Mensinger cazpar 6 - vs. JCR SC-6

Hi guys. I am a spanish bass player. I live near Barcelona, I think JCR is in Alicante. I’ve been considering buying a JCR for years, almost bought a second hand J bass some months ago. If you need any help translating or in a coversation, I’ll be happy to help a fellow bass player. No problem. Really. Even if you eventually decide to order a custom build I can help through the process, and gladly so. Someone helped me once in a similar situation and I’d be happy to return the favour to another bass player. -
I’ve been playing Warwick basses for 15 years, very curious about those pickups on a jazzbass position with the East preamp. And fretless. Wow.

Agreed . I love my Trb JP, everything feels right playing that bass. I’d like to play a fretless TRB some day. Congratulations

I can only speak about the Yamaha Trb JP. It is amazing, I love the ebony fretboard and sound. If the Trb Jp has all you want, I recommend you buy one. I was considering buying a Trb1006 or similar, I am still paying for it, but after receiving it and two days playing and getting used to it, the JP confirmed that was the right bass to buy. There’s some magic in those pickups I can’t explain, I guess it’s the Trb sound I have read about for years.

A Very Special song growing up in the 80's.

I just found this old thread. I've been watching old live Simple Red gigs since yesterday and I love Tony Bowers work there. Specially with that fretless Thumb. Great bass player. I like to play songs and try to play along with them to enhance my ear, and I've been enjoying playing some of their old material a lot. Songs from their first three albums, I,d say. Like Sad Old Red, Money... -
'82 Ibanez Roadster fretless. No dead spots neither. I have to say I use a clip tuner and the knowledge of the existence of that kind of problems and others is what made me avoid buying some brands like Fender. But I think my 87 Warwick Streamer has a dead spot on the D string 10th fret. Frets needs dressing, so maybe it's just that as other C notes rings perfectly on the other strings. I think maybe a brighter tone tends to accentuate the problem, too.

i just checked all 120 positions on my Warwick Corvette fna 5 with 6 years old Thomastik flats. No dead spots or weak notes. I have them on other fretted basses, but not in this fretless. I'll check the other one I have.

I have two more great Warwicks, a surprisingly good Harley Benton P bass and an 80sfretless Ibanez Roadster that fit that description… Honestly, even if I don’t want to, at least one of those has to go. I’m just waiting for the Yamaha to confirm it really will be that one that will rule them all. I’ve been authorised by the seller to use some of his pics here. So this 5 kg of japanese craftsmanship is what I am waiting for:

Btw, it doesn’t bother me if the treble is noisy when the preamp is pushed. I tend to cut treble and use a more solid tone as years go by.

Mine is to be sent to me today. Brand new Fodera nickel strings light gauge. Never played Fodera strings. I really think it will be one of my main basses. With the Yamaha 6, my fretless Warwick 5, a great Lakland Skyline 4 and a Matsumoku 80s P bass I think I have everything I need, at last. I’ll post pics and impressions when it arrives.
-
Indeed it is. I just paid for a Yamaha Trb JP1 that should arrive next week. A dream come true. I don’t want to die asking myself could I have released all the tones and music that lie on such a superb instrument.

Skylines are terrific basses. Great sounds and great feel, specially for the price of a used one. Mine is indonesian, I played it yesterday on my first rehearsal with a ballroom orquestra. As always I bring my Lakland, everyone was delighted with the sound and looks of the bass. And it always surprises me how versatile it is tonally.
