This was something they did on the Buckethead signature guitar a while ago, looked daft on the guitar - but this works! The Goldtop is killing me, especially now I've decided I miss my Jack Casady enough to look for one...may just wait for these now, as it'll be somewhere in size between an LP and the JC. I also like the bass tune-o-matic, looks a bit neater than the old Warwick style tailpiece. Should end up costing less than the Guitar equivalent (how do they work that one out?!?!) £1400 at a rough guess including a hard case. Bassassin Posted April 8, 2011 Share Posted April 8, 2011 Fat Les? Not really convinced by the pics, so I'll have to reserve judgement on the aesthetics until I see a real one. The pups & hardware look sort of lost on that huge body - actually one of the things I quite like about the look of normally-proportioned LP basses is the over-long neck in comparison to the body. I guess this size would put it more in the region of my Eagle, which is the benchmark for me. Not sure about the £1400. I still think there's a lot better you could do for the money. neepheid Posted April 8, 2011 Share Posted April 8, 2011 It's a(nother) misstep for me from Gibson. Basically it now looks like a short scale enlarged in all directions. I like the menace of the long Gibson necks, it's most definitely a bass and it's most definitely long scale. Also 20 frets? Come on Gibson - Leo realised that 21 was the way to go from the Stingray onwards. You put 22 on my Epiphone Les Paul bass. What are you thinking? At least they've retained the selector switch, which seems to have come and gone over the years. I'm guessing it'll still be a little on the porky side though. I think it would look far better with a couple of 4 screw P90 style soapbars instead of plain topped hummers. Apart from the Headstock Shape and Machine Heads, If they were the "Classic Shape" like on the Gibson EB-0's and the machine heads were proper open gear ones i would be interested, but those things put me off, as good as it may sound. ...I dont see why [b]increase[/b] the body size and [b]decrease[/b] the size of the headstock and put silly tuners on it... Now this is a les paul bass... I like the smaller headstock and tuners - the big tuners are one of the things I find aesthetically unpleasing about Fenders.
