What you need to plug your amp in

Actually I remember a guitar magazine said that some expensive power cable made their amps sound a bit "louder" and "livelier". That was about it really. Also that was talking about a power lead that was about £100. I very much doubt it makes much difference, especially since it's already had to travel a good few miles from the power station to where you live through the power company's cables.

Only £100? That must have been one of those cheapy cables that Victor Wooten advertises

Slightly more seriously: when you look at that site, does it tell you you have anything in your basket? I just glanced up and noticed it had put 3 things in my basket, without me clicking on anything. It was only £5000 worth of kit - I could just tell the wife it was an impulse buy.

Oooh, we should be using their cables for our computers too:

"but why not buy one of our mains cables... you'll cancel interference and your computer's sound and pictures will be sharper and clearer."

I had 99 cables, each priced at more than £1,300...

out of stock, unfortunately.

Ah good old fashioned audiophile BS. Gotta love it.

My home audio cable buying guide...

Mains leads - use the one that comes with the piece of kit. Unless you already have one plugged in the right socket. Or you have one with a nicer shaped plug.

Speaker leads - rule of thumb - the bigger the cross section, the more likely your amp will love you. If they are on show, pick a sleeve colour that you like.

Co-ax - OEM co-ax's look a bit weedy but I am sure will work fine. I normally replace them - Does it look a bit chunky and cost less than a few quid? Deal done.

Optical - Shine a light in one end. If it comes out of the other then its good enough. £1.99 delivered from eBay

HDMI - buy as short as possible because its tidier. Gold connectors. A £70 Monster cable WILL NOT out-perform my sub £10 leads when measured with my ears and my eyes.

While it is true that some expensive leads do outperform cheaper ones in theory or lab tests, they are installed in my house. The limitations of domestic layouts and human senses means that if someone tells you they can 'hear' that your CD to amp co-ax is fitted the wrong way round they are lying.

That site is ace, funniest thing i've read in ages!

I suspect that it's actually one big joke, surely nobody is that stupid? I can't imagine the folk who actually sit and write the advertising blurb can make it through one draft without falling on the floor in fits of laughter.

Still, good idea for a company. Make 300 sales, buy two or three houses, retire!

I think it's a real site - I placed an order for £130,000 and it sent me to an https page for filling in my credit card details!

This is pretty much it really. If you have top of the line EVERYTHING else then by all means you might notice some improvement if you are a real officionado but for 99% of audio or a/v setups and environments it's really just not going to be noticed.

it's a bit like those episodes of the apprentice where if you make one sale of a really ridiculously expensive item then you win and are a buisiness genius but if you fail to sell then you are totally incompetent and should be fired...
They're for real. They got hauled over the coals recently by the advertising standards people for talking crap :)

For the doubters, this is all terribly real.
You were surprised? It’s still a widely held view that one piece of wire sounds like any other.

Oh yes. Here I am, my background is pro, working in a technical capacity, doing design work, a member of the AES for 20 years or so, and a cable sounds different!

Even if all this gear does what it says, what are you going to listen to on it? There are, after all, only so many direct metal mastered, virgin vinyl Alan Parsons Project albums out there :)
Oh, they've got that problem sorted already: look under "Essential Accessories" and you'll find such delights as this:

I have never heard such blatant BS.
I am stunned !!! you could probably make one out of silver wire for less. This is the rub with HIFI gear, I love valve hifi gear, but have you seen the price of some of this gear?, outragous really but people fall for it every time, specially when you can build your own using the same circuit for 20% of the price. Ultra high fidelity stuff usually has really complex DC power supply with a lot of filtering that is heavily shielded. Is it just me, but i can't see that some wire with some wooden knackers on it can do the same job, this stuff is for people can find water with coat hangers.............
