TBH I think the BassIQ is a totally different filter. It responds very differently to input, it's more like the classic DOD filters than a Q-Tron/MuTron feel. Very stiff and sudden rather than fluid and flexible like the Q-Tron.

Of course sometimes you want that harder response, but I wouldn't compare that pedal to a Q-Tron at all.

Thanks for the PM and the post.

After watching this I have sent the Tri-Mod Wah back and am definitely going to go for the BEF!! One thing puzzled me though there is no mention of the Mu-Tron III or trying to emulate that filter - why not? Surely that is what everyone would want?

I have also just pulled the trigger on a vintage Musitronics Mu-Tron III so I think between the two pedals I should have every sound that I need/want covered.
I got your PM earlier today about this...It could be the effect type that you are using since the pedal was not designed SPECIFICALLY for the bass. This video details a few ways to use the Soundblox Tri-Mod Wah with the bass. Hopefully it helps you and anyone else who may be having similar difficulties.

I have limited experience with envelope filters, but FWIW this is what I found.

1. The Boss AW-2 pretty good actually. Does triggered wah (envelope filtering) and auto wah (cyclic) and can combine the two for somewhat unpredictable results.
2. A Mutron III reissue - tried this about 10 years ago and was blown away.
3. Guyatone Flip Funky Box - horrid. Got rid of it very fast.
4. Maxon AF-9 - a bit disappointing. I have kept it - but it didn't displace the AW-2

I am not suing a filter at the moment - but when I do, it'll probably be the AW-2 I turn to.

I went out to get me one, tried q-tron, bassballs, qtron+, enigma and mxr m82. I came home with the mxr. The dry and fx knobs make a massive difference, and the actual enveloping is more mellow than the EHX offerings IMO.

As far as I know, there was never a mutron III reissue, that's why they go for stupid prices.

Well it looked like a Mutron III. It could have been the "unauthorised reissue", the Mutron III+ mentioned here:-

I guess it's a replica.
When and where can we buy it has to be the most important question right now!!!
That will be up to the UK Distributors...Thomann does carry our products and you can also expect to find them in many to most Warwick dealers.

No - not see it anywhere over here yet.

I called the UK distributors before Xmas and he thinks that it will be at least March until we see them over here. You can buy them online in the States from Amazon.com and a few other but would then have to pay import and duty and VAT once it got here which would probably make it quite expensive.

Seems stupid to release a product get lots of talk going about it and then not have it for sale - I think they have got something wrong there.

If you head over to TB there is some good fedback on it - at least they have it over there the swines.

whoa!
Soundblox is getting my money for teh envelope filter and the multiwave distortion... I like the "pro" version because these pedals can generate so many different noises and I can store a handful of presets for use live on different tracks. Brilliant.
I shouldn´t read these threads... have you got any idea how much money I have spent because of Basschat??? :)

Gentelmen,

After a great deal of pushing on our part we've finally gotten the Soundblox Bass Envelope Filter listed on Thomann. Sorry that there was such a delay on this! Sadly, we actually lost a few European customers because of this...

The link is: http://www.thomann.de/gb/source_audio_soun...ss_envelope.htm

If you have any questions about the BEF, send them my way!

Cheers,

Will

£101.74 is a much cheaper price than I was expecting (though I suppose an ABS box is cheaper to manufacture than metal) & I'd be interested if I never had the Moog.

The Motion Sensor looks like a cool idea, can you use an expression pedal with the unit?

Bought an Aguilar Filter Twin but might still find the funds for this as it sounded good in the demo!

You appear to be turning into a filter freak, my friend :-)

Hows the aggie filter?

Got a boomstick bottom feeder here and waiting for the 3 leaf GR to arrive from US, seems to be taking forever!

I agree I think I have a very bad case of Filter Fever!!

I think that in the end I will sell some on but I kind of want to try as many as possible to make sure that I am not missing "that sound" somewhere!! Mind you the Mu-Tron is pretty damn hard to beat.

Really like the Aggie Filter Twin it gets pretty close to the Mu-Tron and being able to blend an up/down filter together gives a much fuller sound. I am pretty happy with it and would recommend it.

Did you know that 3 Leaf are about to release a Mu-Tron clone called the Proton?

Never used a Boomstick - any good?

Yeah, I heard about the Proton, Looks good from what I am reading on TB

The Boomstick is just a nice simple filter, forget what it is a clone of, maybe a Dod, Tayste will tell us lol!

I've had a lot over the years, but not really bothered with them for a while as they are not something I would use in anything i have done for last few years

I've been thru Q-trons (first filter I owned, wouldn't have another, there are far better out there) Mutron, origanil and reissue (alot of poeple write the reissue off, but it still sounds good, not as good as an oldie though) Mooger Fooger Low Pass (good filter, but needs to be ina loop IMHO, sucks tone more than any other pedal I've owned) Love tone Meatball (too many knobs) EBS bass IQ (good, would own another) plus some others which I can't remember!

I liked the Meatball, hence the incoming GR!
