Hi guys, I'm having a clearout so this stuff needs to be moved on 2U Flightcase - has seen the horrors of life on the road and came out the other side with some scratches, nicks, marks and a little bit of rust, but it's still as strong as a brick-s***-house. The outside is sturdy, and a thick padding of foam protects the inside rack from the shocks. This also includes a bag of screws, bolts and rubber washers to attach rack gear to and a shelf which I briefly used to rack some effects with. £50 (I'd rather this was collected but if you PM me I'm sure we could arrange to meet half-way, or I'd be happy to courier it if you're willing to pay for shipping.) Gibson 496R and 500T Humbuckers (Mint/As new) - Ceramic dual-coil pickups taken from a Gibson Flying V '67 reissue. They're very hot (which is why I swapped them for lower-gain alnico pups... UFO/Schenker time anyone?!?) and when plugged into a decent rig sound rather good if metal and hard-rock is your cup of tea. Not the best pickups in the world, but most defintely an improvement over the stock pups that come with a lot of cheap entry-level instruments. £50 for the set (price includes postage.) Kind regards, Bob.

ALL SOLD! Happy days Boss GEB-7 EQ - I've hardly used this at all and from what I can see it is in MINT condition (save for a bit of velcro on the bottom.) SOLD! Wobo Double Looper - A two-loop bypass box. It has a few nicks and scratches, and it's a bit dusty, but it's been sitting in a drawer for a few years since it was last on my pedal board... it utilises gold plated relay switches instead of hardwire, see here for more details: http://woboge.com/boxes_doublelooper.html ) SOLD! Maxx Tuner mute / A/B Box - As new. I had this custom made for me by www.electrick-garage.com with a GIANT, BRIGHT, FLAMBOYANT PINK LED... I later applied the glittery Pink Pather as it put a smile on my face, although it can easily be removed if it's not to your liking. SOLD! AC/DC Power bank - Used, but in very good condition. A cheap and cheerful power supply that offers five 9V 2.1mm outputs with a maximum mA output of 500mA (not that much, but it's enough to juice five everyday stomp boxes (just don't try and run loads of digital modelling gear off it, or daisy chain 20 pedals.) Includes four 2.1mm barrel leads (centre negative) and a three-way daisy chain. SOLD! Price includes postage. Kind regards, Bob

I had a Multicomp before when I was a n00b with compression and did not have a clue... I sold it. Then I tried a handful of Orange Squeezer clones that were far too "squishy" and I wasn't keen on the noticable volume swells. Then I tried the Multicomp again and realised how stupid I was for getting rid of my first one. I adore the dual-band setting, and the tube-sim mode is nice to add a subtle warmth when going through a cheap, passive D.I. live. Another vote for the Multicomp here!

I don't frequent Basschat anywhere near as much as I used to, but OldGit seemed like a class-A bloke My condolences to those close to him, and to those who knew him well.

Something for you Rickenbacker (and possibly Rickenfaker) players

A quick update: I fitted one to my 4003. It doesn't quite sit as flush as the ones in the pictures because the pickup surround (on MY bass) is a bit too narrow to let it sit comfortably. There's a small gap of about half an inch if that where it's recessed. Looks good though and it's definitely an improvement. -
Love the collection Interesting that the Rickenbacker was made in 2007. I've got a Blueburst 4003 made in '05. I guess Ric really did have a lot of backorders

Only bass I've ever sold was a MIJ Fender '62 reissue Jazz bass in sonic blue, although it was lighter than normal and had hints of surf green. Unfortunately it didn't grab me at all and I moved it on. Kind of wish I still had it just so I could have tried it with flats. Also have a MIJ p-bass that I had defretted because it wasn't getting much use. It's still nice but it had a really nice, resonant p-bass sound that would've been perfect to slap some TI flats on and a foam mute. Debated selling a Rickenbacker 4003 for years before I finally fell in love with it. I would SERIOUSLY regret it now if I had sold it back then.

Unless this thing is accurate to 0.0000001 cents I don't see any reason to not spend another £20 and buy a Sonic Research ST-200. 0.02 cents accuracy guaranteed and it's less than half the size.

Hey guys, I've had a quick scan through basschat and I couldn't see a link to this. Someone from Talkbass has started making plastic bezels for Rickenbacker treble pickups designed to fill the gap that's present on basses with the pickup cover removed. See here. Just thought I'd tell you guys about it, and I'm currently in the process of ordering one for my 4003 so I'll tell you how it is once it arrives Cheers, Bob
At least it's an improvement on the toilet seat jokes...heheh.
Wait... the toilet seat comments were JOKES? I kid, I kid! At first I didn't like the look of Bongos but the aesthetics have definitely grown on me

I use Elites Stadiums 40-100 on my Rickenbacker 4003. They just seem to compliment the bass really well, but for some reason they never seemed to feel or sound right with any Fenders I've tried them with :S
Bit of a change around. That top Marshall cab is a standard size 70's 1960a. Funny how small it looks on top of the massive mf280b.
In the words of Duke Nukem: "HOLY S***!"

I had read the original thread by Maddude. Hadn't heard of him or this Jimmy character before (mostly lurk the classifields, gear porn, basses and fx), but I genuinely felt for Jimmy's family and friends (I myself was bullied a lot when I was a younger teen and I've seen how someone's death, especially suicide, impacts all those around them). Even was on the verge of donating a few quid as well. Yeah, I feel like a bit of a mug, and/or tool now I am convinced that karma will intervene at some point in Maddude's life because of this. Kudos to the mods! As others have said, this whole situation was dealt with in a mature and professional manner, and it is certainly a comfort knowing that you guys are keeping an eye on the proceedings of this forum

I notice some guys on Talkbass do that, but I don't have the right tools for the job and I'm not really keen on the thought of cutting chunks out of my pedaltrain. Part of the reason I got it was because I liked how solid it was. Anyways, here's the final photos: Pretty chuffed with it at the moment Can't wait to bring it to a band situation and see how it fares. Also, I was playing around with the Noisebox (as usual) and found a nice synth tone with a low volume setting (enough to trigger the filter if played hard, but played soft it was very tame). I was rather impressed with it until I turned on the Xblender with the Voodoobass on (mix 50/50). Suddenly, there was this thick, PHAT, usable synth sound... the harshness of the Noisebox was subdued and the overall sound was full, rich and shockingly authentic (had a Deep Impact that I sold to Higgie ages ago because I thought it sounded too digital and basically gave up on bass synth pedals). And it tracked fast enough to play Hysteria with it Just hope I can get that sound again and upload a recording of it.
Thats a nice neat board there. How do you use your noise box? Ive had one for a little while but havnt really had the time to experiment with it much yet. I cant decide whether to keep it or not.
The other pedals are the "serious" ones. I was going to put my Bottomfeeder there, but I'm not 100% with its sound so I put my Noisebox there instead. When I first got it I didn't give it all the time it deserved and nearly sold it after a week. Tried using it in a band context before getting to grips and it was terrible. However, I personally think the trick to taming it is to roll the volume back on whatever instrument you're running into it. I tend to use it for glitchy, broken Nintendo sounds by running the volume knob to the point where only a minute bit of signal is coming through and set the filter sensitivity to maximum... that way I can control the envelop filter side with my volume knob as appropriate Seriously, it took me months to really appreciate all the different sounds I could squeeze out of it with experimentation. Only thing I wish I could do (if I had the room) would be to run it in the blend loop of the Xblender and put a volume pedal before it. That way I could get controlled, lo-fi synth sounds alongside my clean bass. Well... maybe one day
One man's "neat board" is another man's "room for more pedals"! wink.gif
Very valid argument, and believe me, it's hard to tell myself that this board is complete. I kind of got sick of constantly moving pedals around and pedal collecting is a very expensive hobby... plus most music I play doesn't demand the use of effects as such, I just use a touch here and there sparingly to enhance certain songs, or if the song actually NEEDS a certain sound. Plus I had a George L patch lead break on me mid-gig before and It was impossible to tell which one because I had loads of pedals and wires about. This way all my wiring is neat (albeit vulnerable), visible and easy to get to. Also just tried to mount the Fuel Tank underneith the board. It fits, but it sits in too deep between the railings so there's not enough room to fit the power plugs in... although it would work if I just put a bit of foam or something to lift it away from the board a bit... that way I could fit more on the board
What's the Abunai 2 like on bass?
Not that great due to a lack of low end. Very typical tubescreamer clone with a 3 way clipping switch (symetrical, asymetrical and no clipping). I really like the grind it gives on the higher frequencies though and playing my Rickenbacker through it with a pick sounds really sweet on a low gain setting. But the low-end problem is pretty much sorted thanks to the Xblender, although I may get a better TS clone in the future like a Xotic BB preamp.
You know those Abunai 2's are worth about 3x what you paid in Japan, right? smile.gif
O rly? I think I paid about £90 when I bought it from Tonefactor a few years ago (mostly been using it for guitar until I got the blender). Noticed on guitarguitar's site it's listed at £150. As usual, Toasted, you never cease to impress me with your plethora of fx-orientated knowledge called your brain Very nice board btw, Alex

Just got the tuner in the post. Here it is atm: Just need to make some new George L patch leads and plug it all up Signal chain will be: Bass> Sonic Research Turbo Tuner ST-200> Subdecay Noisebox> EBS Multicomp> Xotic X-Blender (in loop > Tone Freak Abunai 2> Roger Mayer Voodoobass)> Analogman Clone Chorus> Amp

Very interesting stuff, Al I'm using an Abunai 2 (BYOC TS 808 with some mods) in a blended loop which does the trick, but I've been contemplating having a go at changing the caps in it to get a bit more bass. It's a nice pedal for w***ing up in the higher registers and I tend to favour my Roger Mayer Voodoobass for most applications anyway.
