  1. The old 'thumb on top of the body' hand position so often favoured by "Can I 'ave a go mate?" types.
  2. Have used them twice. Both times the item arrived a day late, so assume that will be the case and you won't be disappointed.
  3. Cheeky! It's interesting - many players play over the pickup and are perhaps unaware that this may make a physical difference to their plucking. Do some players find no difference between playing over a surface and playing in an area where there is nothing between strings and body (of bass)???? I certainly find a difference, though I do like to dig in - with a lighter touch I might be more comfortable in a non-surfaced area I suppose.
  4. Nonsense! Having a ramp allows me to dig in. I like to have a surface under the strings, or my fingers can have a tendency to overshoot and get caught. Essentially my fingers come into contact with the "ramp", slide across it and catch the string. Also, because my thumb cannot move closer to the body, since the ramp is in the way, my fingers 'know' where they are in relation to the thumb.
  5. I would always rather be playing than not. Every experience is valuable to me as a musician. The more gigs I do, the better I should get.
  6. I would have thought it was well known amongst musicians that all of Journey were/are fantastically talented. Ross Valory is a great player. The last half of Stone In Love is incredible. Live album Captured is also highly recommended, as is Randy Jackson's bass playing on the Raised On Radio album.
  7. I think as serious music fans, we can sometimes have a distorted perception of the make up of audiences and their expectations. A large proportion of an AC/DC audience might be thinking "Is this the one with the bloke who dresses as a school boy?". Meanwhile, Back In Black sits, unplayed on their shelf because it's one of those albums that you're just supposed to have. Many of the Foreigner audience probably have no clue who is in the band, don't care and wouldn't understand why anyone would care. They just want to buy a T shirt with a logo, sing along to I Want To Know What Love Is and have good time with their friends. As I've said before, I'm sure "The Beatles" will be touring in 2062.
  8. Just done four hot, sweaty ones on an already three week old set of Rotosounds. Played again last night and they still have life in them. I think it has a lot to do with our hands.
  9. I've considered several letters to my MP. Three F's, a U, a C, an O and a K.
  10. This has come to our attention because we are musicians, but have they made similar requests for other work at the festival? Bar and restaurant staff, ushers etc? Not making a point (I agree with the majority) but perhaps there are similar ads for other staff, of which we are unaware.
  11. He did a great job and was singing a semi-tone higher than usual since GnR tune down.
  12. Yes, but he taught the band to play 20 years prior to that.
  13. Well I have several, but the main one is used for almost everything.
  14. RS66 sets no longer have silk at the ball end for this very reason. Is this an old set?
  15. Can you get away with it? I have gigs shortly after my return and would like to practise. Have not yet been brave enough to broach the subject - it's alwyas been a "No!" before!
  16. I think not taking drugs on any flights ever is rather sensible advice. As is not having anything whatsoever to do with drugs of course.
  17. With a 4pm start and big queues expected, it might be difficult to make it back to Shepherd's Bush for the Steve Hillage gig.
