1. That was really very nice, as usual more practise needed on my part !
2. Just completed a trade for my bass and multiple bits of shrapnel (err, bass related bits lying about!) for Steve's Overwater, Sound guy and had a nice chat too, Cheers.
3. Hi there, if I did trade it would be face to face only, sorry. I also have a possible deal tomorrow so this bass is now on hold pending, cheers.
4. Hey cheers Chris but I'm only asking what it's cost me, the neck is as far as I know, genuine 70s. It's got a Fender sticker on the heel and some other marks, but no numbers that I can remember. I got a deal on it so I'll pass it on, spirit of BC and all that. If I were into making some brass I'd sell it another way. However thanks for mentioning it, and yes, I'd never make a good business man!!
5. Cheers guys for the comments, but sorry no trades on this one thanks.
6. Now traded thanks. Hi folks, I have for sale my Fender Nate Mendel signature P bass, I bought it off here a few months ago. These are the real deal in affordable P bass goodness , I've just decided to stay with 5 strings again! Please see here for more details, http://www.fender.co...andy-apple-red/ This one has had it's neck pocket cleaned out of overspray etc to help with getting a good neck alignment. I also had to adjust one of the saddle grooves very slightly but after fettling it is nearly spot on. The bass plays really nicely, the neck is a nice balance between a jazz and more traditional p bass sized neck. The roadworn look hides any extra knocks that basses pick up along the way. I'll also include a set of strap end pins (it comes with the schaller pins on the bass from Fender, but not the bits for the strap!!) and a leather strap. I also have the extra 'FF' neck plate and case candy. As far as I'm aware it was bought new in February this year. The only issue, that is from the factory, is one of the screw holes under the pickguard (bottom one between the tone knob and input jack) breaks out of the main body into the control cavity. I only noticed when this when I took the pickguard off to have a nosey!! However saying that it still holds as good as the other ones and is not stripped at all. I'd just like to know this if I bought the bass!! Please see the pics below (it's the red one!!) Any questions just PM me please, Cheers.
7. Now SOLD please freeze. Hi folks, I have for sale my bitsa fretless P bass. The body is a mid 80's copy, not sure what wood it is, maybe mahogany, walnut, who knows, it is however very hard!! The pickguard is a repro one, the bridge is a badass II, pots are new CTS with solid shafts, knobs again RI 70's ones. The pickup is a sort of copy of a Dimarzio one, it has adjustable pole pieces but I'm not sure the wiring is the same. The best part is the neck, it's a late 70's, maybe early 80's (1978 - 1981, see http://www.fender.co...product-dating/). The board is unlined rosewood and the tuners are original as far as I know. They guy who I bought it off said he bought it as a complete bass from a shop called Machine Head in Essex in the mid 80's. The strings are Fender flats (40 - 100). It has schaller pins on, depending on how many of my basses sell I might have a spare set of strap bits too, will have to wait and see. The neck is nice and straight and the truss rod works as it should. The issues worth mentioning are firstly: The bridge that came with it was a boat anchor made out of lead, so I changed it for a Badass II. The holes that the original bridge cam with were non Fender standard and the Badass II only just covers these, so you can't really used a normal type bridge unless you don't care about see other screw holes! The neck screw holes are oversized (I didn't do it gov!) and a bit 'off' the normal hole position, this resulted in whoever put it together to plug the original neck screw holes and re-drill some new ones to match the body holes. It all works fine, just a bit odd really. The neck has also been shimmed to get the action low, if not the action would be high. I had to fettle one of the saddle grooves on the badass II to get things in-line, all good now Please see the pics below I'm after £295 collected from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire for this as I want any buyer see it in the flesh, play it and be happy!! Also thanks for the offers but no trades thanks. Please PM me if there are any more questions, Peace,
8. Please freeze as this is now SOLD thanks. I have here my CIJ '62 RI Fender fretless jazz bass. It's fingerboard was epoxy coated by Jon Shuker when the original owner imported it from Japan a few years ago. The brige has been replaced with a Badass II, the pickups have also been replaced with a set of Dimarzio Model Js (http://www.dimarzio....imarzio-model-j). The neck has also had a set of inserts put in (http://www.ebay.co.u...=item45ff5c062c). The bass originally came with out any pickguard holes, a previous owner installed a pickguard that I don't have so I bought a mint white '62 RI one (non-Fender) as a replacement, it needed fitting around the control plate and the neck pocket, also a few of the screws fit in at an angle. The plate could always be modified further or not used . It also comes with Schaller straplock end pins (sorry, not the strap parts) and the pots are all CTS with solid shafts. The tuners came as standard and are the very nice Gotoh vintage style ones. The main issues are: Whilst the inserts were installed one of the machine screws now used was inserted in too far when checking the thread and by chance the particular hole chosen was not blind but had clearance to the underside of the fingerboard. The screw then pushed onto the board causing a small split along one of the fretlines (see photo) and in the epoxy coating. I did check with Jon Shuker about this and he suggested using some very thin superglue to glue it. I haven't done this yet as in use I find it plays fine as it is. It used to have a '62 RI bridge, however there were quite a few odd extra resonant places on the fingerboard after I'd installed the inserts. I then swapped to the Badass II and this was greatly reduced, not really sure why but I'm guessing the extra mass of the bridge changed something like a resonant frequency etc. However about halfway between the 6th and 7th fretline on the E string you still hear this. I have now just changed the E string to check if this would make any difference and the resonance is no longer happening between the 6th and 7th fretline! I'm guessing that the string must have been slightly kinked and that was buzzing against the fingerboard, doh! If it's not that I don't know what has occurred to stop this, mmm, anyhow it's better now! The body does also have a few scuffs here and there but is in generally good shape. The neck is shimmed to get a medium low action due to the Badass II. ps. I'll be in Horncastle, Lincolnshire from 25th to 28th August if that helps. Any questions please PM me, Cheers.
9. SOLD, please lock post thanks. Hi folks, For sale is my bitsa Fender Jazz, it plays nicely and has a genuine roadworn feel about it! The body is a 2 piece ALL PARTS jazz body in full 3 tone sunburst (http://www.allparts....hed-p-1949.html), the neck is off an early Marcus Miller (drilled for a 4 bolt neck plate also with a period Fender decal). The pickups are off a CIJ '62 RI fretless jazz I also have for sale. The bridge is a factory filed Badass II. The tuners are very nice Gotoh vintage style ones. The pickguard is off a genuine 1977 Fender Jazz bass . The pots are all CTS with solid shafts and also comes with Schaller straplocks. It sounds very nice (genuinely have a lot of compliments about the sound) However it has been around the block so to speak, a few holes have bits of matchstick etc in them to hold and unfortunately whilst putting on the Badass II, two of the original screws broke in the body. After unsuccessfully trying to drill them out I used another set of bridge holes that were already there (1/2" closer to the neck). The intonation is still fine due to the amount of adjustment on the Badass bridge, however if you wanted to use a bridge with a smaller footprint you'd most likely see the remnants of the broken screws etc so not really an option. The neck is shimmed to get the action down fairly low, I've only recently done this however and it does play with a medium action if you have a shim phobia I'd like £275 firm collected from Huddersfield for this please, I'm not offering postage as I'd want any BCer to play it and be happy! Please see the pictures below and any question please ask. 13. Great stuff you do, shame I'm too old and live too far away!!
14. Hi Tamas, Have a free bump for a nice bass, by the way I dig your playing
15. Hey there, just get some vernier calipers. Either digital or mechanical will do. I'm not too sure of the tolerance of string manufacturers but when I measure mine they're never spot on tbh, and my calipers weren't cheap (used them when I was an engineer so needed to be spot on!) . Your best bet is really digital as the mechanical ones can skip if any dirt or muck gets in the gear mech.
16.
She will be loved. I've already another Jazz Bass Bravewood in my armory. Love it. This guy is a genius !
+ 1, they do all seem fantastic basses

18. Yeah, well done for being in the right place at the right time. A bit of a bargin you have !
19. In the past I've just used a range of coarse to fine abrasive paper and done it by hand!! Takes and while but does do the trick . ps. use a sanding block on the flat surfaces to prevent leaving an uneven finish.
