1. Well I have also put an order in now, I guess we'll see what happens
2. Not surprised this has gone so quickly, a real piece of wick history there !
3. Well I sold 4 passive 4 string fenders a while back so I could concentrate on playing my two 5 strings wicks. Thing is I've been starting to hanker after another couple of 4 string fenders again! Playing live I much prefer the 5 strings but for things like reading etc I'm more at home on a 4. Didn't help that I went to a nice vintage guitar shop yesterday and was offered to have a go on some of their basses, after I played a 79 P, a 66 P (in fiesta red with tort guard!!), a 74 P (and a Jim Reed jazzer!!!) I think the bug might have bitten again. I do find it bizarre how after I found my more than good enough 5 strings I've got gas for an old fender 4 again.
4. Lol, I just tried the above thing and it's true, not much of a gap with the ring fingers!!
5. Yup, the builder has a great setup and obviously knows what he's doing down to a T, I'm sure you'll have a fab bass
6. You could try and get some sheet music for it, then you can follow it along much easier (IMO) than tab. You'll also get to learn a bit of theory in the process
7. mmm, yeah a bit good isn't she !
8.
That clip got me watching Youtube for a bit and I came across this wonderful bit of Norman Watt Roy soloing at 1:30 and no slapping in sight
yeah, a bass solo I actually liked
9. Hey, Geoff is a about 40 minutes from me so I will probably consider getting some jazz lessons at some point. There is also a classical teacher even closer (err, about 2 miles!) to me called Jennifer Nicks. As I initially want to play classical I plan to at least start my Double Bass playing with her. I've also enquired about the Stentor Student II for sale on here, just have to wait and see how far away it is!! Cheers for the advice and comments anyhow, peace.
10. Hi folks, Well as you can guess I'm looking to buy a Double Bass, I'm starting with classical studies then onto other bits and bobs. I've seen some on the Thomann website that look ok, but I think I'd rather buy used as it's generally better value. Anyone got some good suggestions for a decent beginner bass? Cheers.
11. Wrong on so many levels!
12. Just sold some magazine to Rainer (well read sold as 'for a contribution to BC') and all was good. He even gave a little more than he said he would , top BCer!!
13. Cheers for that, I've left my details so we'll see what happens!!
14. Cheers for the responses. I'll find a local teacher first and go from there. Peace.
15. Hi folks, I've been thinking recently that I wouldn't mind trying out a DB if anyone is willing to let me have a try on theirs? I'm in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire if that helps at all? If not anyone know of where else I could try one? I'm thinking I'd like to start with classical playing, then move onto other styles. Also can anyone recommend any tutors in my area? Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated and for once I'm quite excited!! Cheers in advance.
16. The bass line is an embellished (very nicely though ) one taken from the actual track. There was an old keyboard that had the same demo and you could separate the instruments and the b line was basically the same as above (bar most of the fills!), very nice groove for a demo song and I'm sure someone could be made into a nice full length jazz/funk piece with a bit of work
17. Yup, well produced and nice and clear. The music notion idea is really good, always good to know what you're doing on paper
18. I've had a 5 string SS1 before and was pleasantly surprised by the feel of the neck, I thought it would be fatter than it was. If you compare it to a Streamer Jazzman 5 or a Thumb BO 5 (non broadneck) it feels slimmer when compared. Also I personally really like the broadneck spacing, I've got a pair of fretted and fretless broadnecked BO 5 Thumb basses and they feel really nice to play.

SOLD.

Looks like a great bass to venture into 5 strings with some style
20. Man, bargin there Greg , if I wasn't being so strict on not buying any more basses I'd probably be interested lol! Have a 'Bargin' bump on me!! ps 'An Offering' is a great album, keep it up dude
21. Hey I'd like to try it as well if possible please, by the way it's an ace idea and all in a good community spirit, nice one Chris
22. mmm, tried a fair few in my time and have now settled for 2 thumb BO 5 broadnecks. I sold 2 jazzes and 2 P basses in the process and thought they were all keepers, a bit odd but tastes do change I suppose. I used to have a thumb nt5 that was a work of art (IMO) but the fit wasn't that good for me. The BO basses fit me that bit better and while they don't sound quite as 'thick' as the NT (they both have soapbars rather than single coils) they are probably a little bit more versatile. I've also realised now that I much prefer 5 stringers with a wide string spacing so if I do get another wick it'll be broadnecked for sure!!
