1.
now on ebay, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=300269459700
Jeez! Nobody snapped it up? I've already got one so I dont really need another, or do I...? Aggggh GAS!
  2.
GAHH! Why haven't I ever got any money?
But you do have a very sexy Stingray Russ...
  3.
Too cheap if you ask me Paul's a great guy folks, I would highly recommend him as someone to do business with. That's also a lovely looking bass. Mmmmmm Chris
Finding it hard to reply.... Cannot put bloody stingray down...
  4.
It's a beaut. Paul, many thanks mate, a rough night for driving all those miles but if you're half as happy as I am with the deal it was worth the drive! The bass is everything I hoped it would be, that is, a 'ray that in build and playability feels like a good '70's Fender. Very different tone to all of my previous EBMMs, much more guts and power (although that might be down to its weighing several tons ). A 70's fretted Precision, a 70's fretless Precision and an early 80's 'ray. I'm now in bass heaven Chris
Absolutely bloody fantastic! Really, I'm so chuffed you like it mate. And I'm as happy as a pig in poo. That Ray is gorgeous!
  5. Hi y'all. For sale is my 2001 US Precision. Its in great nick with only a slight dink on the back just above where the strings come through, nothing major. The colour is a very light blue with a white scratch plate. I got it from PMT in Birmingham last year where they told me that its a 'baby blue'?? Im asking for £460 which is a bit less for what I payed. It dose come with the Fender hard case. I'm sorry I cannot trade on this one. I really do need to thin the collection! Cheers
  6. Hi all. I'm reluctantly putting my old Stingray up for sale, needs must I'm afraid. I've owned the bass for about two years and its hardly ever left the house which is a crying shame. With a change of musical direction I exclusively use Precisions whereas before I only owned Stingrays and this one was more of a trophy bass for home noodling. I'm no huge expert on these but its the string through body type with a 3 bolt neck. It dose have ware and tear with lots of lacquer checking, scuffs etc. But overall its pretty good and looks the absolute dogs! Its so cool. The photo was takes a few months ago and since the my camera packed up. If anybody's seriously interested and wants some more pics I'll borrow a decent camera for the job. Theres no original case but I'll sort an old one out. I would really wouldn't want to post the bass as I've had bad experiences with couriers in the past and its quite heavy. Im in Telford Shropshire BTW. I'm asking £1000 which is what I payed for it. If you have any questions on it I'll do my best to answer them but I guess theres quite a few of you who know a lot more about them than me. Cheers
  7. Thanks for an informative and fascinating thread. Today I have just collected my '73 Precision bass and the differences between this one and my '78 are enormous. They are two very different basses. Thunderhead wrote about the shape and thickness and I couldn't agree more. The '73 is smaller all round, almost 5mm thinner body depth at the strap button. Also the bass is far more contoured making it feel slimmer and lighter. The width at the nut is 40mm whereas the '78 is about 42mm. Not a lot really on paper but the difference in feel is very noticeable. The '78 is a bloody tank in comparison! To be fair tho, the '78 isn't that heavy, its a great bass and the chunkier neck is more too my liking. I own 5 Precisions now, the others being a '01 USA string through body jobbie (which is an excellent P-Bass). An '84 Squier and a Jap '62 reissue which has the widest 4 string neck I've ever played. All of which are great but all quite different.
  8. Gone a little too far this time. A bit OTT for my taste but yeh its somebody's baby!
  9. The Gallery in Camden London gets my vote. Bass porn perverts paradise! Seriously, great guys and do pretty good deals. I just wish it was 'round the corner! 10 points for service. 8 points for price (could always be cheaper ) 8 points for stock (dont expect many basses for under £400) http://www.thebassgallery.com/index2.html
  10. My opinion will be grossly bias towards Warwick. I own two which is not enough! Ill guess that it was the Corvette $$ as their quite popular and tho i have not played one users on the Warwick forum rave about them. Warwicks kick bum, but i would say that but if you have got over the first hurdle (getting on with the neck) then you are on to a winner!
  11.
It really annoys the hell out of me... A great example was the Who at Glasto. Pino wasn't even in close up during one of the bass breaks in 'My Generation'
Now that just ain't fair! And i want one of them t-shirts. There might be the slim chance that i could be proved wrong!
  12. Sh*t man, sorry to hear that. I have to admit that I have been a bit slack and left gear in the car. This should be a lesson to everybody. Once again sorry.
  13. Supported some of the greats then! Fantastic!
  14. Sounds a darn site better than the live earth cobblers. Ok some of it wasn't too bad!
  15. You dont see many BO Thumbs like that! They certainly didn't skimp on the wood for that one. You could be forgiven for thinking that it was a CS model. Its extremely nice
  16. I think (after reading this thread several times) you should go for the MM. Beg, steal or borrow, whatever - if its the bass you crave then you should get one. I have owned a Lakland 44-01 a Stingray and a Sandberg (still got) and ALL are very good. You can get a secondhand MM5 for about 650, I nearly brought one! A few weeks of financial ruin will be diluted by having the bass YOU want. BTW most of the year is spent in financial ruin for me but thats GAS for you!
  17.
I play Lakland Osborne and a vintage PB, what im saying is that ive picked theup and played them in shops etc and they feel a bit "organic" thats probably not the right word but as if theyre trying a bit too hard to be cool and different, ramble over.
I think thats fair comment. Warwicks have a 'vibe' about them, they are a bit different and I can see how bassists might not get on with them. I would be interested to know which ones you have tried. Thumbs and Dolphins might seem a bit 'oddball' but Vettes and Streamers are pretty user friendly both to the fingers and the eye! Insidently i used to own a Lakland and a '75 P-bass

    Oh, God
NO STOP IT!!! whenever i see a pic of a buggered up old s/b jazz with a tortoishell p/g, i think to myself "WHY DID I PAINT MY BASS DAYGLO GREEN!!!???"
You did what?! You must be living in a world or remorse man...

    Oh, God

Stunning! But Stop it, please stop it! The levels of GAS are getting unbearable!
  20.
Another Ashdown Perfect Ten mini rig, along with my Warwick Corvette Proline. Stu
Enough yak about the piece of string, more importantly that is one nice 'vette
  21.
so what your basically saying is you've had several very pricy basses over the years yet you couldh't afford a £10 wall hanger?
Bloody ridicules really! Its not the affording its the getting 'round to getting one (or two) thing i guess. Ill do it tomorrow!
  22.
Why do I think Warwicks look hideous? is it cause im an old git? I never see them on the box played live.
I guess im a recent convert to Warwick bases, before i used Fender or Musicman as my main basses. I got my Thumb off ebay because it was going for a good price! I had never played one before but had always kind'a liked the look of them. Not the soundest reason to buy a bass i guess . But i did and did not regret it. Of course its personal preference and they may not suite a certain playing styles but i fancied something different. I think the Streamer (Spector) shape is one of the most aesthetically pleasing guitar shapes around and im sure you could be persuaded
  23.
A buddy of mine here in Norwich bought a second-hand Thumb 5 NT custom which is all Ovangkol and it sounds great. I wouldn't sell my BO 4 for the world.
Now that sounds custom shop to me , never seen one of them. And no I dont blame you for not wanting to sell your BO4, its great when you have a bass you love. BO Warwicks have attributes that NTs dont have and are the bass of choice of lots of Wick users. Bleached and Dirty, i believe are BO and are highly desirable basses and i will always regret not buying one when i had the opportunity
  24.
Is that sandberg being held on the wall by string??
Er yeh! That bit of string has done me proud service over the years being used to support such classics a '89 Stingray, '86 Stingray, 75 Fender P and the Sandberg. The acid test was a Aria SB1000 which weighed a ton! Could do with a decent hanger really. Ill get 'round to it one day
