1. Best part of Christmas for me. You can keep the presents (my room's cluttered enough) seeing the family (bunch o' sods for the most part) and the dinner (same thing every year? Give us some Christmas callimari for a change!) but the old songs never fail to put a grin on my face.
2. I do it all the time at gigs, and sometimes when I'm walking down the street listening to my Walkman. My excuse is my Reynauds Syndrome fudging hurts my hands and moving them about a bit can help
3. At the moment it's Stranglers - Enough Time. Not a hard line but the timing's a bit iffy, so enjoying it now I've finally got it. Though it's competing with my love for Rudie Can't Fail by the Clash.
4. Better than any of the other crap they play on the radio at work, so it's got my interest.
5.
Punk with solos? maybe he had a point there....
Well ok, but just the one in Agent Orange's Bloodstains wouldn't have killed him. Possibly. This is the bloke who, during our biggest gig, forgot the time signatures for a song he'd wrote and we'd practised in the dressing room half an hour before.
6. Loved it, went to Rebellion at Blackpool last year too - I'd happily do it every year if they didn't book so many of the same bands. Agreed with what everyone says about the atmosphere, always great at these sort of events, I find the majority of these crowds to be respectful fun-loving people who don't go out their way to cause any trouble, Even if they do like a bit of a jump around (and I'm usually in the thick of it) I've never felt in any danger, despite being a little bloke - anyone who gets knocked over or hurt gets helped immediately and there's no attempt to cause actual harm. All the bands were up to their usual great standard - stayed by the mainstage for the most part though I did catch Dirtbox Disco and Jaya the Cat on second. Great selection of groups, especially for the ticket price (forty-five quid for fourteen hours ain't bad, considering how many big-name acts will charge that for a few hours in the evening). I'll definately be going if they do it again next year, at least if the regular Rebellion Festival doesn't tempt me down.
7. Geoff's always seemed like a tosser to me, much as I love the band's first couple of albums and the genius that went into them. I remember them signing CDs at High Voltage festival last year, the rest of the band were lovely blokes despite me being a tad star struck, while Tate just stared disinterestedly over my shoulder and not so much as acknowledging me while signing the CD. I wouldn't mind, but why agree to a signing if you're going to behave like a miserable ******d? Always comes across as arrogant in interviews IMO as well. Though if his current band brings their Mindcrime tour to the UK next year, I may have to overlook my dislike for the man and go see it.
8. He still does what dates he can - he made it to a fair few of the festival dates last year, and about half of the UK dates if I recall correctly. He was there when I saw them in Brum anyway
9.
Where's Jet???
If it's any consolation his drum tech plays just as well - not the same though, is it Surprised they've agreed to tour next year, given the amount of dates he's sat out in 2012.
10. Guitar - Izzy Stradlin, love his playing. Moreso than Slash's. Drums - Ginger Baker, throws in some great drumming without overdoing it. Vocals - Klaus Meine, sounds great live and on record, can't get enough of his vocals.
11.
I'm guessing you think that response to your thread has been less than favourable, but try and avoid tarring a forum full of bass players from being solely responsible for an export that has been as equally well received in your home country as it has in ours. Not the greatest of moves!
+ 1. Don't put anything to do with talent shows down to me.
12. Probably about three or four minor ones that are easily corrected. I'm sure the audience doesn't notice; no-one else in the bands ever seemed to!
13. Rush's Distant Early Warning. Works brilliantly and it's the one bassline I never get tired of playing, so an all-round winner in my book.
14. Worst pain in the world, other than stubbing your toe. My punk band turned to sh*te because of people ****ing about one by one. First the singer didn't want to sing certain songs, then the guitarist couldn't be arsed to learn solos, then the drummer ended up not turning up to half the practises ( and not letting us know until I'd spent the four quid bus journey getting to the singer's house) and eventually I ended up being a bit late for some of the practises because all everyone else wanted to do was play a few songs and smoke certain substances for three hours. Which I'm not opposed to, but not at a band practise. I don't think things would've got into such a state if we'd all put in the proper effort from the start. Slippery slope and no mistake. Got to nip people like that in the bud and fire them if necessary, otherwise they'll be the death of you.
15. I'll throw in a few quid later, when I've sufficiently tidied enough to find my debit card Damn good site, well worth the odd few bob.
16.
Maybe, but there is always going to be someone who has never heard the joke or song before and enjoys it. Interestingly, the only people who seem slag the song off are people in bands who think it's cliche and cheesy. To be fair,it would be easy to say the same thing about many 'classic' rock songs that nearly every other band seems to play.I've heard far more bands play the same Thin Lizzy,Free,AC/DC etc. songs than I have play Mustang Sally.
Agree with that one - in all honestly I think I've only heard MS played once or twice live, whereas the other other bands you mentioned seem to get covered a lot more frequently. Probably explains why I don't mind the song so much as a lot of other people here. Sweet Child o Mine tops my list of overplayed songs, yet I don't see so many people complain about that one. Played at a battle of the bands for under eighteens a few years back, and of the eight bands on that night four of them played it Our guitarist even decided to take the mick by playing the intro riff at the start of our set before segueing into the Trooper, bless him.
17. Sorry to hear that Pete, good luck with the recovery.
18.
Any roundwounds, and turn up the treble to 5000
+ 1 regarding treble
19. Wish I'd caught this, saw them at Download and caught Cornell's solo Manchester date this year...both brilliant, the new album's sounding pretty great too.
20.
Love Judas Priest, one of my favourite gigs...but I wouldn't look to Ian Hill for inspiration, apart from playing Spector Basses
Agreed, very solid player but in terms of interesting basslines from him...I can only think of The Rage, then I'm at a blank.
21.
Baroque Bordello is another one
Cracking intro, one of the best tracks from that album to play.
22.
I had an email today from my son's drum teacher saying his mate is looking for a bassist and thinks I'd be a good fit. He must be desperate. I took my bass along to a drum lesson and played a grade 3 piece with him. Not sure if I've got the necessary experience and bottle but I've got the gear so I might have a go even if I start off playing root notes or something. Dunno. I want to get into a band at some stage but maybe after just 9 months playing its a tad optimistic?
Gizzit a go, I joined a band after three months, started gigging after seven and it definately helped that I was able to develop confidence and stage presence while I was developing my playing.
23. Peaches is a tricky one, I had to learn the lyrics to know when to change from the verse to the chorus. Fair play to lojo, WoB's bloody tricky during the solo...can never get those runs quite right.
24.
Only a fool would think for a second that it happened, it was written by a muppet to justify being lazy.
How fortunate then that no fools (or at least very few on here) think it 'happened' but in fact serves to show a very good point. I doubt many of the events in the Bible happened, but I still love my neighbour. When she's not giving me a telling off about how loud my amp is, anyway.
