1. Sorry for the delay in replying! I'll take some pics in the morning. I'm in East Herts (near Hertford) - so not that near to Devon, I'm afraid! Thanks for the bump, Ron - yes, it sounds like the voice of God through the PA on the acoustic nights I've played with it. To be honest if I hadn't got GAS for a whizzy exotic wood Ibanez acoustic, I'd be keeping this.
2. May I humbly suggest that at the cheapo end of the market, the Thomann Harley Bentons are pretty good, and from the description of that cheap eBay bass, are a lot better finished. I'm selling mine (got GAS for a more pricey one...)
3. No worries about the age of the thread - it's [i]meant[/] to be added to over time!
4. Lovely burst on that, and nice grain under it to boot. Nottswarwick - the electronics are exactly the same as the L2000/L2500 (except on the L2500 the pickups have more poles )
5. There is a well documented mod to add a tone control to these stonking basses, should you be concerned about the lack thereof.
6. Guitar Man in NYC could be worth a visit if you're nearby. The manager's a G&L nut, and has been one of the main organisers behind the three limited edition basses G&L have done/are doing for the BABP forum.
7. WOW - that's another fantastically generous offer. Remember folks - if you're not coming to the bash, you can still get tickets
8. A quick bump for those who're not attending the bass bash, but who want to be in with a chance of winning some of the raffle prizes (and contributing towards Basschat). Thanks to those who've already bought tickets - your tickets have been allocated! These pre-bash sales will be open until about the 26th - enough time to allow me to get the tickets etc to Ped before the bash itself.
9. I bought this from a fellow BC-er a while ago, and it's been a godsend. The experiment has been a success, and so I'm considering getting a nicer acoustic, so this one's up for grabs. 34" scale, bound body in black with lower cutaway. Fairly shallow neck profile and about jazz width at the nut. Currently has Tomastik TI Jazz Flats on it, which sound fantastic when plugged in, but possibly reduce the volume when "unplugged" over a zingy roundwound. New bone nut fitted, and a low action. Well finished bass, bar a couple of tiny dings on the headstock, and a slight finish blemish at the nut end of the neck where the fretboard is bonded to the neck - but it's rock solid - been like that since I've owned the bass. I've added a second strap button at the heel of the neck so it can be played standing. Comes with a decent padded gigbag. I'm happy enough to keep the TI flats if they're not your cup of tea, so shall we say £75 without the strings, £90 with, including the gigbag. Delivery will be at cost, under £15 I would guess.
10.
He did tell me at the time that Fender were considering a signature version of his jazz including a big hole where his thumb rests
Cool. I noticed he'd had a new neck put on his bass when I saw that tour in December (not a date you were supporting on, though Mr Fudge) - it was a Bass Centre neck. Video footage I took of the evening Intro to the band pt 1 Intro to the band pt 2 + start of Hit Me...
11. As Luke suggests, get it shipped with the neck off (cheaper shipping most likely anyway). Label it as spare parts - which frankly in its current state is absolutely true. Set value as $40 or so and decare as gift - again all correct.
12.
RichardH has very kindly organised the whole thing ..... but it will work very smoothly if you follow the instructions
Waddaya saying about me, ped
13. I think dub_junkie is right - you have to return the existing neck. They would also have to tool up to do a 3 bolt neck (they've moved over to 6 bolt for Asats now IIRC), so I think it would be very expensive. You might find someone willing to do a neck swap, but frankly you're better off selling the bass you have and buying one with a maple neck, IMO.
14. Just a warning. The AGB140 ("Artcore") basses do NOT have any volume unplugged like a "proper" acoustic bass. They're just a semihollow electric. Very nice looking, but I tried one in a shop (thinking that it would do for unplugged practice), and all I could hear was string noise/clank (they were nasty new strings, mind). Lovely looking bass, but definitely NOT an acoustic bass. £185 is about the going rate for them on eBay IIRC. Here's a pic to remind people what we're talking about: So - "proper" acoutic basses. As you'll find if you read a few more threads, the majority (if not all) acoustic basses do not have the equivalent volume to an acoustic guitar, although they can get close. But if you're hoping to jam unplugged with a couple of acoustic guitars, you'll get swamped whatever bass you have. I MAY be selling my acoustic bass - a cheap (but good) Harley Benton. Full scale, 24 fret - big body so decent unplugged sound. Reasonable preamp for playing plugged in. I have replaced the nut with a bone one (which made a big difference to the sound) and it is set up really nicely. Would come with a gigbag and fresh strings. I'll PM you with more info.
15. Got a link for the CD case thingy?
16. I think their weight varies. I tried one in our local music shop and it was a real boat anchor - but someone was selling one on another forum (not for sale any more) and that sounded like a much lighter one.
17. This should give you enough to be getting on with. Looks like a typical size is 30"x30"x27", and it mentions they can be built between 16"-30" wide. The forum on Bill's site is a mine of information, so have a look there too. The plans are well worth the $4.95 they cost - very comprehensive.
18. Hmmm - yes, as I was writing it I wondered whether there might be any such implications. But I guess it's just a way of asking someone else to buy a strip of tickets for you at the bash, isn't it?
19. I can't imagine so many generous prizes being offered for a second raffle (though you never know!) - if you want to do a trial run first, why not work out what prizes tyou've got "in the pot" by the time of the Bash, then - with the donors' permission - hold some back for the virtual raffle, so you already have a prize fund built up. I just thought the idea of being able to enter the bash raffle "from afar" would be good - a bit of a connection with the bash, even if I can't make it! I'm sure you wouldn't mess it up, ped, anyway - as I see it, it goes like this:

Decide how much for each ticket. For some reason, most raffles I've been involved with (village halls etc) seem to sell them "per strip" - so you get 5 tickets for your £1 or whatever.
buy a couple of books of raffle tickets
Maybe set up a separate Paypal address for the ticket purchases
As the purchases come through, allocate the tickets to the person. Tear off the bit you'd normally give to the buyer, and write their name/email address on the back.
After the closing date for the virtual raffle, rip out the stubs, split them up individually, and fold each ready to go in the hat with the rest of the tickets bought on the day.
Decide on a prize order, so first ticket out gets the original 66 Jazz, second gets the full Markbass rig*, etc. Then there's no fun and games with people having to choose which prize they get.
*prizes may differ from that suggested, I take no responsibility for supplying any of the suggested prizes There would have to be agreement in place that the winner of a prize will be willing to pay postage for the item. Perhaps you should also draw a few extra tickets to cover for the possibility of a "virtual" winner saying they don't want the prize after all, so it gets allocated to the first of the backup winners. Just a thought...
20. I would imagine so, unless they're quoting prices ex tax on the website. Best you send them an email and find out for sure.
21. I've heard similar good things about the guitar version.
22. I'd try getting in touch with a couple and asking - try Stringbusters and maybe LordOfTheStrings, who both do a lot of TI strings..
23. I use a Pandora. As has been said, they do a lot more than just act as a headamp, and the wires can be a pain. But to be able to plug your MP3 player in and play along to it is invaluable. I don't bother with the FX. Have sometimes used the rhythm tracks. An older PX3B would do the trick just fine if you spot one come up on eBay - though the PX4Bs are also probably fairly cheap nowadays too.
24. Very nice indeed. With the binding, does it have a front contour or not? I can't remember, but I think the older bound ones have no contour, and might be a bit uncomfortable for the right arm.
