1. Yup, four should be OK. I'd be interested (never having mounted anything in a rack before) as to how the rear fixings might work - I have a Yamaha power amp that will be full depth, and may benefit from fixing at the rear as well as the front, but I'm not sure what the bracketing arrangements might be.
2. Yes, I'm interested. Does it come with bolts/fixing hardware? Do you have a couple of pics? Cheers Richard
3. I strongly suspect it will be a verrry heavy beast if made in 18mm birch ply. Even in 12mm birch ply a cab that size is going to be no lightweight. At a rough guess based on your dims, you'll be using 4096 square inches of ply. I just went and got an offcut of 18mm birch ply out, which weighed 1.2kg for a piece 330mm x 305mm - say it's around 12" square, so 144 square inches. So 4096/144 = 28. So your cab will weigh approx 28 x 1.2kg = 33kg just for the ply. Gulp.
4. Mike Walsh of Iceni Zoot/Purple Chili would be a good candidate, IMO. Here's a couple of pics of a Zoot bass he was just finishing off that I saw down there the other day This pic's not a great representatio of the colour, but shows it complete He's in Witham, Essex - so not too local to you, unfortunately.
5. Amazed you've not had anyone after this. My LM250 has been an absolutely great amp. I had intended to sell it once I got the TC RH450, but frankly I thought it worth keeping as a backup/spare for taking to jams or whatever. I never found it to be underpowered for my needs, either.
6. How awful. Just to repeat what others have already said - thoughts with Tim's family and friends, as well as those of the guitarist. Article on the BBC website here
7.
Or 'pays for the privilege of having a forum on Basschat', perhaps.
LOL - yeah, that would cover it
8. Maybe sponsor's the wrong word. "Helps fund" Basschat might be a better way of putting it.
9. It has to be said that I had assumed you sponsored Basschat, Alex - after all, you have your own forum section within the Affiliates section - a privilege that others who have had similar sections have been asked to pay for. I know your section is not just about BF cabs and you offer advice on all aspects of cabs in there, but it's fair to say that probably 80% of the posts are on that subject.
10. That review in BGM seemed a little unfair to me. I got the impression it was criticising the cab for not feeling rock solid because it was so lightweight - "never might the quality feel the width" almost. They didn't compare it to any other equivalent cabs, and almost seemed to expect it to break the laws of physics - "if you're expecting big cab performance from a small cab, you'll be disappointed" - but did go on to say it was good for those looking for a light and portable cab for smaller gigs. I must admit I'm considering a pair of these for flexibility of running either one ot two together for bigger gigs. I should say that I do have a slight interest here - I know Mike (head honcho at Purple Chili), and know how much care and attention to detail he puts into building his cabs - and how well put together they are - so the comments about them not being rock solid really does seem unjustified.
11. Do you know what speakers they use in the 2x12?
12.
Thanks mate!! As I said in my reply, they got my name wrong and chose an odd photo, but still!! Cheers ped
Sounds about par for the course
Don't be mean, share.
I'm not comfortable about openly sharing content from the mag without their permission, to be honest - maybe if it weren't the current issue, but I don't want anyone to get told off for copyright infringement. Sorry if that sounds mean spirited. By the way, I went out and bought this issue in my local WH Smiths - I'm not a subscriber. It does sound like the post has delayed many subscribers from getting their copies.
13.
Got a scanner? hehe
You have mail.
14. It would also be interesting to see how it behaves using rechargables.
15. Yup - agree with that, great comms, simple payment and a super duper chap.
16.
How deep is the rack unit? I think it might hang out the back of a shallow rack - I'm intrigued to hear the range of sounds this unit can produce too.
12.5" from face plate to far end of the rear knobs. Happy to take a deposit and hold til the end of the month if it helps anyone out.
17. Too many knobs for me, I'm afraid, so it doesn't get used like it deserves. Comes with PSU but not the optional footswitch. £150 delivered in the UK.
18. www.interparcel.com or www.parcel2go.co.uk - you'll find you can get shipping for under a tenner - maybe a touch more depending on the level of insurance you select.
19. I've managed to flatten it off a bit since then, but I don't want anyone to be under any false illusions about this bass - but if anyone wants it, there it is. WYSIWYG.
20. More pics
21. Have I sold it to you yet? It's a Guvnor jazz copy - right handed, 4 strings, first bass I owned. Action very high, not sure how well it would go down, but if that's your bag, then knock yourself out. Few dings here and there. Logo has been scraped off the not too unattractive headstock, and the knobs removed at some point. The neck has more relief in it than I would like - hence the high action, and I'm afraid I don't have the time or inclination to do much else with it, to be honest - so caveat emptor! Lovely pics: £40 and it's yours??? Can arrange shipping should you be so inclined....
22.
Yeah, details please! They look a bit like the tiny ZVex valve amp.
That's how it started. The guitarist emailed me with a link to a ZVex, and said "how about one of these as a practice amp", and I fell over backwards when I saw the price. I knew that over on the AX84 forum there was a project for a tiny amp, and a quick look round found a pcb for it. Some jiggering around and some swearing later, these chappies were born. They're not clean by any means. Here's a sound sample with my chum on guitar, with me varying the boost and gain to give an idea of how it sounds at various settings. It also sounds totally superb as a harp amp - really saturated "Mark Feltham" sound. When I get some time I'm going to experiment with changing a few things to get a wider clean range for bass use.
23. I made a couple of 1watt all tube amps recently - more for guitar than bass, but they sound fantastic, and are plenty loud enough for practice!
