Thinking about a new amp - not Class D
Salt on your Bass? replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've only tried an M-pulse 600 in store a few times, including A/Bing it to the Carbine. Others will have better experience I expect. In summary, I liked the tone - warm, m-pulse line-esque, carried 'authority'. Word on the street is that the walkabout does 'valvey' better than the 600 for some reason. I still got some nice grind out f it, but it does clean very nicely. I disliked the extensive para eq - whilst it gives you tonnes of tonal options, I don't like too many knobs and found I dialed in some tones I really liked then couldnt remember how to dial them back up - this may be a huge plus for you though? Build quality was great as you'd expect and it felt pretty heavy, as you'd expect. I came really close to buying, but for the amount of eq and price tag new. Hope that helps.... :s look forward to others opinions on this actually. -
Thinking about a new amp - not Class D
Salt on your Bass? replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've just bought a mesa walkabout as my lightweight option as Class D wasn't cutting it for me. If I had an injection of cash and was considering amps, my list is all valve at the moment and includes Matamp GT200 and Ashdown CTM100. Still to find out if the walkabout suits me, and I'm more than happy with my ashdown ABM500. Lovely position to be in, you must definitely shop around or order a few and send some back if not right for you! -

I'm in the throws of adding a 66 to my grand tarkin. How's this set up working for you? What style if music are you using it for? They look well tasty as a pair!!!
Received this dirty mother in the post on Thursday to go alongside my knightfall66......... sounds awesome! Used it at practice and to be able to find a fuzz that cuts through the mix is fab. done and dusted for dirt now I think! Gas can do 1 Tom sure is the man :-)
I miss my shuttle 9 from time to time. I recall it being an outstanding amp. I paired it with a compact and midget, and ran a vt bass infront. Got some huge sounds out of it. Hope you enjoy, this makes me tempted to jump back on one........

New 'Winterfire' demo track melodic metal
Salt on your Bass? replied to winterfire666's topic in Share Your Music
I quite enjoyed that!! Not my usual tipple, made me think of battle metal meets maiden for some reason. I thought the vox sounded good as well, Moreso if he doesn't know the track. -
Nice! you guys got a website/fb page? ...... Just checked your sig! and following on FB!

Post your pedal board - Basschat style!!
Salt on your Bass? replied to dudewheresmybass's topic in Effects
Here's my board presently, and I cant see it changing for a while to be honest - I love it! Its monstrous live and really fattens up our 3 piece!! Very happy with the Grand Tarkin, which is unmoded but has a bit of extra heft added!! And a night time shot: I'll try and snap better pictures soon!! -
So here's the outcome: https://soundcloud.com/gevaudandoom/message-for-the-damned My chain was: feline thunderbird>Cog Grand Tarkin> Ashdown ABM500> Barefaced big twin 2. The Cog is on all the time, except for the first 8 bars. Gives you an idea in a produced mix. Really, really happy with it

Hi all, My band have recorded our first studio track. This is the first track I've been involved in that's been engineered etc. so a good experience and pleased with the outcome, so thought I'd share. So here's Message for the Damned: https://soundcloud.c...-for-the-damned Please note there is the odd profanity in this song. FB Band page is: https://www.facebook.com/Gevaudandoom if you want a bit more info about us. Chain was: feline thunderbird>Cog Grand Tarkin> Ashdown ABM500> Barefaced big twin 2.

So I've not been about much lately with life events etc taking place. However, got my Grand Tarkin in now and rehearsed twice with it. I absolutely love it (insert ,multiple expletives!). Its brutal and shakes bones. Tom did a little tweak to make it easily modifiable for me to reduce/increase the amount of bass in the signal, but its essentially an unmoded grand tarkin. I play in a doom band and the tone I'm getting is monstrous in my opinion. I was hesitant in changing pedals, from my SFX, but moving over to a muff based circuit which is tweakable in the way this is, is amazing. I'm so pleased and a massive public thank you to Tom, who is very helpful and understanding, particularly when dealing with someone who understands very little about anything at all. Anyway, my band are meant to be recording this Saturday so all going well i'll be able to post up some band mix sounds in due course. That's it

Finally, my first gig this Saturday!
Salt on your Bass? replied to Damonjames's topic in General Discussion
Yeah just enjoy and don't worry about the mistakes as above. Try and lay off the booze before hand and get smashed after (if that's your thing!). Best of luck, let us know how it goes! -

What's you're band man? We're in the same battle - week before you though
Played a kind of battle of the bands thing at the Purple Turtle in Camden, North London last night. Four great bands (and my lot). A night made much more memorable when the stage caught fire! There are a couple of fans under the stage that I assume are there for the smoke machine, but one of them went up in flames as the headline act were partway through a song. The bar staff were useless, wandering off to find the manager once they realised what was going on, so I had to vault over the bar and grab a fire extinguisher. Passed it to one of the promoters who then put the fire out.
