12s and 10s wont necessarily sound toppier than your 15. I haven't got any experience with these cabs though so afraid I cant help. Distance selling would seem to be a good way to go though if you're up for paying the return shipping. Do you use your tweeter? Would that not give you the more toppy end that you're after? I notice the 15 also comes with a 3 position tweeter.....

Thanks for the feedback guys, some good food for thought here. I think my preferred approach for a gig on 29th will be to contact the sound guy ahead of the gig and tell him how I want to run stuff and see what happens from there. I'd like to grab a mic in the future and didnt realise there were post power DIs which would probably be worth looking into actually as that sounds like a really elegant solution if it acts as I assume it does. I definitely want to include the power section in my sound, otherwise whats the point of going all valve
-
General rules are: - If you like your current sound, add the same cab again to the set up and you'll get more of the same - If you don't like your sound, look for another cab/amp - If you mix cabinet/driver types the results are totally unpredictable - you may love it, you may hate it I'd say if you like the fifteen, just get another as you sound like you love your tone and thats the only way to guarantee more of the same.

Hi All, Wasnt exactly sure to post this so I'll try here. I'm getting my first valve amp in the next day or two which I cant wait for. It doesn't have a DI so my feeling is to mic my cab at bigger venues - to get the benefit of the amp. Just wondered what a decent bass mic would be - what do you recommend? Also, is this the right approach or should I be sending a DI to the desk as well as a mic'd signal? Thanks very much!

Mark bass tube 800 - am I destroying my amp?? HELP!
Salt on your Bass? replied to JamesFlashG's topic in Amps and Cabs
I think that's part if the point of having a tube in the front end - adds warmth and gives you the ability to grind. If you like the tone I wouldn't bother with a pedal. -
Back when I was playing multi-band bills on a regular basis, I never had a driver blown by some dickhead. I did, however, have control knobs half removed, input sockets knocked half out of place, and drinks sat on top of expensive electrical equipment. The day I stopped letting people use my amp is the day I stopped having to get the thing mended. Just giving the option of using the cab achieves three things- 1: Damage limitation, without being the grumpy guy who won't lend anything at all to fellow musos. 2: If someone has to go to the car to grab their amp, they often decide they might as well use the cab too, so you don' t have to risk any of your gear after all. 3. It subtly makes the point that if someone wants to play a gig, they need to think about providing adequate means to do so, or at least to communicate with those they expect to do so. "Yeah man, of course you can use my cab, I'll just get my amp out of the way..." Edit: Always having stuff on hand, I never did turn up to a gig where no-one had brought any gear. I'd love to see how it went down at the ones where that was the case though. It must have happened somewhere!
Ah, good call - that actually makes a lot of sense! thanks!

Yeah, I'm generally happy for people to share my gear as I don't think most throw as much as I do at it so I'm pretty comfy - after sizing people up of course! Why would you share your cab and not the amp? Is that weird or am I missing something?
-
I'm not sure if this is a recent trend but more and more I've noticed with kit shares for gigs that people are prepared to share their cab but not their head. Just wondered why that was - if I'm taking my rig (and I know the other bands) I'm happy to share the lot. If I don't then I'm less likely to share anything. My main thought on it though was with abuse or no volume restraint, surely it's easier to blow a driver than it is to blow up an amp? Curious about others experiences and reasons for preference

Very nice! Congrats! I came close to enquiring on this. Looks like its gone to a nice home! Look forward to rehearsal/gig reviews!

DOD FX-32 Meat Box for Sale Want to liquidise your audiences insides and crush their skulls? This pedal will do it! Good condition but with no box or instructions. It's currently mounted to my pedal board with velcro. I removed the rubber base to mount properly and still have this so can reattach (if you don't take the rubber off it sides off the Velcro adhesive). Includes the power the blue 9v adapter to power with diago etc. Battery also works. Some useful info on the pedal here: http://www.americaspedal.net/fx32/ Online demos don't do this justice - via huge rigs or through the pa is where the magic happens - really really thunders. You can run the pedal signal direct as well which is a useful feature. Based in Bedford, but travel weekly (normally) to Bicester via Milton Keynes. I'm the second owner. I had this shipped over from the US a while back and been on my board since it arrived. PM me with any queries. Pic below, rug not included

Transacted again recently. Great chap to deal with. I was purchasing on this occasion. All as smooth as can be. Deal with confidence

Yeah, probably around the 300-350w mark at 8. I thought these ran at 575w at 4? Doesn't make any difference in terms of volume though, just splitting hairs

Best 1 cab solution around the £1k mark
Salt on your Bass? replied to Freddie75's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've got a big twin 2 and it covers everything I do in a Doom band - pubs clubs and bigger stages. Throw sub Bass, fuzz and like at it no probs. I like it. I find what you put in you can get out. Reasonably easy move and fits perfect in the boot of my skoda Fabia. I was tempted by the berg but had got on with barefaced before so went that way. -
I always found home levels with the terror challenging. The volume slope on them is pretty sharp so always found myself in a 'shower' scenario where I was nudging volume and gain at really incremental levels. Also no headphone socket. There's better amps for home practice in my opinion, albeit I like the Amp for gigs.....once the di is rectified.

Yeah I like mine but use it very little in my current band. Seems to have developed a little problem of cutting out when full wah. Best I've used though including cryvaby.

Thinking about a new amp - not Class D
Salt on your Bass? replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've only tried an M-pulse 600 in store a few times, including A/Bing it to the Carbine. Others will have better experience I expect. In summary, I liked the tone - warm, m-pulse line-esque, carried 'authority'. Word on the street is that the walkabout does 'valvey' better than the 600 for some reason. I still got some nice grind out f it, but it does clean very nicely. I disliked the extensive para eq - whilst it gives you tonnes of tonal options, I don't like too many knobs and found I dialed in some tones I really liked then couldnt remember how to dial them back up - this may be a huge plus for you though? Build quality was great as you'd expect and it felt pretty heavy, as you'd expect. I came really close to buying, but for the amount of eq and price tag new. Hope that helps.... :s look forward to others opinions on this actually. -
Thinking about a new amp - not Class D
Salt on your Bass? replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've just bought a mesa walkabout as my lightweight option as Class D wasn't cutting it for me. If I had an injection of cash and was considering amps, my list is all valve at the moment and includes Matamp GT200 and Ashdown CTM100. Still to find out if the walkabout suits me, and I'm more than happy with my ashdown ABM500. Lovely position to be in, you must definitely shop around or order a few and send some back if not right for you! -
