1. Hi All, I've just picked up one of these at a reasonable price just to see how I get on with it in my doom band. I've only used it with headphones presently but wondered what settings people run with? I've seen the manual online and tried those - hell being my favourite presently, but we'll have to see in a live band setting. Also as an aside, if I drop the rump and flank controls (30hz/60hz) below 3pm, there seems to be a massive drop in volume - so rather than fattening the sound, it drops it. compensating with the volume and wet/dry brings a bit back, but not noticeable. I wanted to check this was normal. Like I say, still haven't used live yet so probably need to before judging it properly. Thank
2. Thanks Japan, maybe if it was drone or thrash county
3. Hi, My doom band will be playing our first gig at the Bear, Bedford. Free entry, starting at about 8pm. Now joining Sykopath Condor for a full night of metal! Not sure if there are many BC'ers round this neck of the woods, but f you have time and fancy dropping in it'd be good to say hello. Drop me a PM if you want any more details Thanks for reading! Here's a facebook link in case you're interested - listen to the demos with caution, live recording and condenser mic! www.facebook.com/Gevaudandoom
4. That's all pretty interesting - I knew there were a few iterations during the generations, but not the detail so I went a bit broader brush based on what I know. +1 to a proper history lesson.
5. G1 - 15 inch speaker, plastic corners G2 - as g1 but lighter (revised bracing) metal corners, G3 - redesigned. all New drivers 12 inches, new smaller box design, New handles, feet and grilles I think that's the main points. Used to own a few g2 compacts and really enjoyed them. Alex is best person to email (barefaced) if you have queries on theit range.
6. Think mine's complete now based on fb activity. Pretty excited. I found it a tough decision between grille cloth and steel finish. Went steel in the end.
7. I wouldn't exclude the MAG series of ashdown cabs if you're considering ashdown - there's not a huge difference between ABM and the MAGs in reality. Agree with the above, try them out (ideally at rehearsal/gig if you can). If weight is a factor, I'd go for the genz though as there's a bit of a saving.
8. Thanks for the input, some interesting points. were gonna stick for the time - a lack of activity, lack of social media and different country from the other means were pretty comfy and at least aware. Sure theres plenty of names, including wfhidxhudgjjj but we quite like this one
9. Hi Guys, This may have been covered before, but my new band have just settled on a name. Great, apart from the fact that I've just checked the internet to find that the name exists but not sure if the band are active (there's a few bits uploaded in 2013 here and there - myspace and last FM). They are Canadian and independent/unsigned. Is it wiser to just go for something else, is there any legal problem with this - short or long term? Anyone in the know on this kinda thing? Many thanks
10. That's amazing!! Nice career story, really really jealous!! Especially as you got to play hallowed be thy name with him as well!! Any frowns/scolds for any missed triplets?!
11. Nice review. Hoping mine will be with me in the next few weeks. Very informative about reworking the eq. Thanks
12. Could you di both if there's enough channels? One primary, the second a back up? Seems strange to have a nice valve head and not send that tone to the desk. Has it failed on you before?
13. Sorry, pictures or it didn't happen!
Took delivery of my BIg Baby 2 today - it appears i have number 1. Had a quick go this evening and it sounds awesome.
14. How did the gig go Dave? Hopefully smoothly this time round!
15. If its tricky, I think a submarine would be better .......
16. Nice read, glad it's working we'll for you. Interesting writhe the direct comparison with the compact and running them together.
17. Oh, great! I'm a bf owner.... Soon to be g3, and I'm pairing it with an Ashdown! Can I please catch a break!!
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and frankly without different choices and views the world would be a dull place. It's just a shame BF seem to continually generate these stupid long love/hate threads. Build a bridge one and all, let's find something else to rant at each other about! So.... Ashdown... Wooly? Discuss
18. Wow, good luck with white!! I like to look after my gear as well but there's an ocd side to me that couldn't deal the fear of a white cab getting a mark!!
19. Looks are obviously important to you which of course is fine. But accepting carpet is acceptable because everyone went that way means if manufacturers decided acrylic was the way to go then you'd change your opinion and suddenly accept it?! I don't believe you can knock the website. It's easy to navigate, clean and does what it should, better than other premium gear websites in my view. Orders do appear strong, but this company has driven a lot if r and d over the last couple of years and offer a unique product And component. You pay for that, and people are obviously prepared to pay the asking price for the product offer.
Carpet on a cab is a bad idea... but they say it wears hard. Ok, still didn't like it but the mass of makers went that way.. Thankfully, Berg and the like went off that idea. The look of a cab is important. It is an image game as many posters will tell you when they say they like to see a band engaging with an audience, jumping around, enjoying themselves. They'll spend money on a website, band pics, promo CD's lighting... all sorts. Why wouldn't that thinking extend to gear onstage? The cabs still have not got beyond a very poor knock-up in a garage. Bite the bullet, get a cab designer in and a proper cabinet maker to make them. Gen 3..... ??? still look bad DIY to me. While you are at it... get a decent website. I'd ask ...if orders are healthy, where the money is being spent, but hey, what do I care? I enjoy threads like this...just as well. there are enough of them.
20. I thought that comment had been covered off in a thread a few days ago..... I think youve just plagarised yourself They are light, they are loud, and many like the tone. Light and loud are fact. Tone is always opinion. I doubt anyone's ever been talked round to change their mind about tone with debate on the internet
It's always about how light and loud Barefaced are though isn't it ? What about tone ? I bought my current cab by how it sounds and compared it to other cabs by different manufacturers.I'm pretty sure all the other cabs mentioned were finished better than Barefaced too.
21. Big twin 2 on order here too. I don't think they're far off now with the production weight being confirmed yesterday, and I believe builds will be happening next week, but not sure how ling a build takes of course!
22. Hey ed, I'd be interested in your thoughts on the ashdown once you've played it in anger too, particularly compared to the abm500- not a lot of info out there on these.
23. I think if this thread highlights anything it's that you can't just Chuck any old speaker in any box and expect it to be ok. Needs a bit more than a wing and a prayer which is why good speaker cabs are worth the money in my humble opinion.
24. That's interesting, I thought those two were pretty similarly rated? I like my amps quite straight forward as I'm a bit of a dunce and impatient. I'm going to pop over and see bass direct when time, money (and Mrs!) allows!
