That's interesting - I didn't realise it was down to the transformer, I always thought it was valve related. Any examples of amps that fit that type?? Thanks -

I need to get this right! Pre amp pedal into an amp...
Salt on your Bass? replied to Musicman20's topic in Amps and Cabs
Do you want to use it as the preamp and bypass the integrated amp preamp? If yes, you'll need to go from the pedal to the effect return/receive (or however its labelled) so the tonehammer is feeding the power amp direct. Your amp preamp controls will then be redundant. If you just want it as a dirt box then into the front of the amp will do it. You'll need to power both the amp and the pedal. -
The first manufacturer that builds an 8x10 with all it's faults regarding the cab tuning but half the weight they will be millionaires!
I think that was the objective with the '69er. I don't really have a lot of experience with premium big cabs - I'm running a 410 presently and compared to some of the light weight options I've used in the last 2 years, the light weight out performed my current cab. All the 810s I've ever come across live and rehearsal rooms have always been pony in my view, but they were all pretty beaten up and not bergs etc. I guess the only way to find out if it works for you is to try and compare, but obviously difficult when lead times and a lot of cash is involved.

Yup, as above. Not sure on your budget but for valve stuff, combo, I'd consider mesa walkabout, orange, ebs (not sure if there's a valve in there). Additionally, maybe consider separates such as genz Benz, gk and Tc electronics....... For starters!

help needed with cab/head choice
Salt on your Bass? replied to christhammer666's topic in Amps and Cabs
That's 300 at 4 ohms and the cab is 8 ohms so you'll get around 175 out the head. For that money I think you could get a 410 And better rated Amp on here. Hartke ashdown orange etc. First rig so learn what you do and don't like then move it on at little or no loss. My opinion and ymmv of course as that rig may last you a life time. -

A 410 will likely be more than plenty for anything with pa support and will cover non pa pubs comfortably I expect. There are lighter and more transportable options if that's a consideration (and budgets useful)- 212s are popular currently. Rule of thumb power (albeit watts don't equal dbs) is 300 watts(solid state/hybrid) for gigging, which seems to be creeping to 500 more recent years. If you like the tone and features of that set up, go for it. I'd recommend shopping around though to see what you like and then buy second hand to maximise your bang per buck. -

At last!!! Thank you! Can we get this post pinned now?!
Well funnily enough the Genz 2x12t looks good, its lightweight, has rubber casters at the back with rubber feet at the front and solid rattle free inset handles at the top rather than in the middle of the cab where they ruin the cabs tone, cost less and even Alex himself rates them as a good cab
I don't really understand all this. Barefaced have a set of design goals and usps and build cabs to meet those goals - practical, light and a great sound (obviously subjective). There are other cabs out there with similar design goals and different design goals. There are bassists with different tonal goals, practicality requirements and cash available. Barefaced owners are all a pretty happy bunch, the cabs do what they want. Non barefaced owners appear not to like barefaced so shouldn't they be happy they don't have one? If someone can point me in the direction of the perfect cab that meets everyone's needs I'd be grateful..........

Thanks guys I'll give them both a shout!

Can anyone recommend an amp tech in the area? My Ashdown needs the sub-harmomic effect sorted and probably a once over. Apparently any tech worth his salt should be able to sort this, but my local guy doesn't seem too familiar with ashdowns surprisingly but thinks it'll be ok once he opens it up - I cant really afford to pay for him to learn.... Any recommendations through experience would be appreciated. Many thanks

Withdrawn Price drop to £83.50 Hi all, I'm selling my VT bass (v1) as I seem to keep gasing for it when I don't have it then not using it when I do. Very good pedals and widely known. I'll get a pic up shortly, but looking for £83.50 posted. I have the tin and user guide sheet, good condition with Velcro on the back. I don't have the feet for it though. Could meet in Bedford, St Panc or Liverpool St. Drop me a line with any queries, Thanks for looking

rehearsing with a singer?
Salt on your Bass? replied to Salt on your Bass?'s topic in General Discussion
Worried about not having any downtime so said he'd have a think- essentially it sounds like a commitment thing which I'm not sure will pan out. Unfortunately he sounded good and was a good guy. -
Hi, I've just started playing in a very Newly formed band which is pretty exciting. We auditioned a singer last night - really nice guy and good vox -who said he couldn't do regular rehearsals but could do it remotely once we had riffs etc down then rehearse every do often. This is far from ideal for me but I wondered if anyone did this successfully or if it was the norm?? Just curious really. Cheers
