1. It wasn't so much of a row, more an exchange of words along the lines of..its too loud, turn it down...aye you said! well why dont you?..cause I dont think it is,but I'll turn down anyway, but I cant hear myself,etc...then a few swear words..lol. Handbags at dawn, petty stuff! As I said,I wasn't really up for it as,it was a freebie and I was tired....so,my bad as the youngsters say!
2. I played a private party last night in a golf club. Decent size room, the guests sat mainly at long tables, either side of the room, which had a large window at the end of it. The DJ for the evening set up to the right of the window,we set up,with the drummer in the middle, directly in the middle of the window, facing the room. When the DJ was doing his first set....well,playing some background sh*te before the buffet, which was pretty poor I might add!....our guitarist noticed the sound seemed pretty muffled from the djs speakers. I pointed out that the guy was using a laptop and his downloads may have been pretty bad anyway soundwise. We never got a chance to sound check and did a short 1 hour set as it was a birhday bash for the drummers wife! I was driving and had a fair distance to get there, the others got lifts in or taxis! So no drink for me! We started of well enough,so I thought, with a decent sound balance. It was a high ceiling, but no kick back from the back wall as there were plenty of bodies in the room, plus curtains on the side walls. Also curtain behind the band and a carpet below our gear, just in front of the dance floor. The monitor didnt seem to be working at all,so the singer started messing around with the mixing desk....cue vast feed back,as the drummer had a mike in his bass drum....anyway that got sorted. Then the guitarist found out his vocal mike was off..more messing around and still no mike! We shared mine for the rest of the set! Another song down and the singers wife comes up and speaks to him.....''Right guy's we all need to turn down!!'' So we did....this went on for the next 3 songs! At one point I stopped playing and no one noticed! I started to get a bit pissed off and let the singer know.....there was a short heated exchange lets say! The guitar played was the same.He could hardly hear himself. I carried on,but found I had to stand more or less over the top of my amp to hear it. It spoiled the night for me,plus I really don't want to fall out with the singer, but it seems as long as his mike is really loud, which I suppose on reflection is fair enough..the rest of the band should sound like a backing track. Ok,this is just a rant, but maybe we could have got a sound check earlier, which wouldnt really have helped as the room would have been empty, plus it was a free gig and I didnt fancy hanging around for hours before it. The usual pub gig sound check for us is the band playing a bit of blues, whilst the singer stands about 4 feet away from us and tells everyone its too loud!...I take it this is the norm elsewhere....oh and aye, bass players can moan a bit, specially after a really hard graft at work all week!
3. Custom World Guitars....Amsterdam! Just found it on net....Sent e mail!
4. There was a place in Holland doing some stuff on e bay, again, cant seem to find them...I may have a go myself at defretting, just bought a Squier p bass at bargain basement price!
5. Looking for ideas of where to get hold of fretless guitar necks in UK. Not too much to go on,looking to replace Squier neck for fretless. The usual guy who does the Mighty Mite stuff on e bay doesnt seem to be about..any ideas?
6. Stop it right now David!!!!You are putting ideas in my head!!
7. Its an Encore...good guitar,usually worth about £40
8. As they say in Scotland....sh*tehole!!

10. Get the guys to help you out.....you hold the nails.....just say,''when I nod my head, hit it!'' I'm sure they would love to do that!!
11. Cheers David.....As you mentioned,I have something else winging its way to me....Another Tokai! Black jazz/p bass with gold hardwear. Very much like the jazz version I used to own ..before being skint at mortgage time a couple of years past. Unlike the previous one, which I got for £90 off e bay, this was a bit more costly. The seller wanted £460. I put in a late night, drink fueled bid of £399. Which was accepted the next morning. The only thing was,it's the wife's e bay account and the message came through her e mail,on her phone as we were out shopping on Saturday. Let's put it this way.....I had a bit of explaing to do!! Anyway,my loss is Davy's gain! Punted the Peavey and also another bass I had kicking around, covered the cost ok....result! Oh,just checked the paypal info on the payment details.....seems the seller goes under the name of John Giblin!.......I wonder if?.......no.....it can't be!!!.....
12. Seems to be a top notch guy by all acounts,as I said, took a stab at one of his p bass guitars, got it for £175 off e bay last night. GAS at its worst !
13. Just pulled the trigger on a bass off e bay by Jamie Davie, who it seems makes stuff for Quo,Smokie,Robert Fripp and many more as they say! Had a look at his website and some of the stuff looks ace, mainly guitars though! Anyone here have a guitar or bass built by this guy. I believe the cheaper ones are made up of parts he buys in,but that doesnt really bother me if its a good one!!
14.
Same for me. The cable sits nice and flat against the body and through the strap. Doesn't get caught up on sticky out bits of the drum kit.
Forgot about that!!...Its often the case that the stage is so small,or room so tight that we bass players often nearly end up in the drummers lap at times! And what about the racket off the cymbals about 6 inches from our ears!!
15. Lord Muck And The Trumpets Of Doom.........
16. Played in Galashiels,in Scottish Borders tonight, plenty of drunks good and bad! The usual mad woman dancing about, knocking drinks over, knocking chairs over, falling on her arse and stamping on our lead guitar players pedals, causing the guitar to cut out. He said the last person that done that got a belt in the mouth, she got off lightly with a mouth full of abuse! Happy Christmas fellow bass folk!!
17. [attachment=174921:the bass.jpg The current fleet....
18. I reported it today as well.....This is a joke! Someone has paid nearly a grand for a guitar worth about £60!
19. This guitar has just sold at the asking price of £995.......someone has been well and truly f***ed!!
20. Seller reported to ebay.....He me be unaware, but certainly seems to believe its the real deal, going by the description.
21. Nice one! Let us all know what you think of the Foundation! I put mine together yesterday(pictures to follow) The neck is from a Millenium so needed about 1mm taken off,but it did fit in the pocket ok.Sounded good, didn't have to adjust it in anyway, fitted some flatwound strings and its good to go. I will use it on Friday night at my next gig. The neck and body came from Ebay as Peavey UK are closing down their operation in Corby. So loads of stuff coming up just now. I know the neck was made in Indonisia, but not sure about the body. As far as I know, the Foundations are all USA made, but maybe some of the later ones were made abroad. It is old,new stock,so brand new body and neck for total of £80! As I am a bit skint at the moment,I was not popular with the wife for buying these items plus a Peavey Fury bass in the one week, although I did sell off a guitar to help fund the new stuff. But as we need a new kitchen at the moment, the good news of the Peavey guitars did not for some reason cheer her up. So,after trying these guitars out,I will decide what I am keeping in my collection....maybe all of them!!.....or maybe not!
22. Cheers.....I was going to keep the flatwounds on it,but decided to test it out at a gig first. Other guitars in the house at the moment are Musicman Sub Bass (USA) Yamaha RBX 775,The 2 Peaveys and an Encore P Bass, early 90;s made in India model.
23. Pictures of the Fury and Forum. The Forum is active and at the moment, still the best of the 2 guitars. Used it at a few gigs now and it has a monster sound!! The Fury is passive, reminds me a lot of an Ibanez Blazer bass I had back in the day.
