As the title say's... Been with the guys 3 or 4 months now and have been using various makes of earplugs. They do make a bit of a difference. The hissing is still in the ears after most gigs but it goes away over a few days. The band is bass,drums,two guitars and singer.One of the guitar players is pretty deaf and when he puts his earplugs in and turns his amp up,the volume is over the top. The other player has his Marshall cab cranked up and the drums are trying to compete followed by me and then the vocals rammed up full tilt. Now some gigs are better than others,so it's not just the volume issue,it's placement, in house PA,etc..But last Saturday was the very worst. I found myself stuck in a volume triangle of drums,bass and guitar. I had my plugs in but at times it was painful. The pub was medium size and packed to the hilt. No room to move away from the sound source. I have brought it up with the band and they have agreed to turn down....again! I like the guys,it's a great wee fun band but it's time to try and sort out some stuff. I don't really tyhink much will change so am looking for a solution. The plugs are ok to a point but I am thinking about some sort of in ear monitors for myself. I know all the stuff about the whole band going through the desk and using in ears...that won't happen..trust me! Years ago I did a theatre show for a few nights. In rehearsal the actors used ambient mikes,those square ones that you see on tables etc..This was to allow them to move about and sing (It was RENT) Anyway,I struggled to hear vocals above guitar,bass,keys and drums. I rigged up a mike through a wee mixer and stuck some headphones up picking up the ambient sound,ie the band and singers.It seemed to work ok. When the show was performed they had head mikes and the sound was even better... The point is (yes there is a point) Has anybody had a similar situation and how did they sort it out. Apart from turning down,I feel they only way forward is to set up a mike and stick some cans on or earbuds getting an ambient feed of the band and trying to block out the actual racket on stage... I could take a feed off the mixer but it would only be vocals and some drums cause thats all thats going through...Any ideas?

No one can hear a thing when we play,so it's not an issue.And I can't hear for a week afterwards...

Have also used Tonerider pickups. Fitted a set to a Squier jazz bass and they totally changed the sound. Played back to back with my Fender Vintera p bass and the held their own. I could not find the jazz bass bridge for the Sandberg and opted for the Ironstone ones and very glad I did!

Recently discovered the bridge pickup on my Sandberg VT4 was dead. Its a fairly old bass and I wasn't really in the mood to shell out for a brand new Delano jazz pickup. Thought I would give the Ironstone pickup a bash. At under £32 delivered I had nothing to lose......well maybe £32! What a sound! Loud ,clear and dare I say it as good as the remaining Delano neck pickup! To be honest I wasn't 100% sure if it would have worked out.I bought the bass second hand off e bay and only recently noticed the pickup was not working.Went down the wrong road at first and replaced the blending pot( soldering......aarrgghh!!) Anyway,there was an issue with the pre amp but a bit of jiggery pokery sorted that out. After checking the pickup with a multimeter and attemping to open it and sort it out(yes...I know!!) I gave up and bought a jazz pickup from Ironstone. Well worth the money and very pleased with the results!

Keep it simple Dave. The Mesa stuff is tip top but over the top for pub gigs. I use the Bugera Veyron or my Fender Rumble 200 head. Along with my 2 Fender 1 x15 cabs. No issues,decent sound and the Fender Vintera sounds ace!. No pedals just the tuner out. I'm sure the wee amp will do the job!

Just sold a bass to one of the fine chaps on here. He had arranged a pickup from my house today and after my wife being in all day and me arriving in after 3 and waiting till 6pm it was a no show. A while later I checked the tracking only to be told that ''Unfortunately we were unable to attempt collection of your parcel today'' What the!!! I had seen the van in our street and thought it was turning at top of the road. Checking online some folk say this is what they do when they are running late or are too busy.. Anyway we will never know cause thats all that was said! It has been rearranged for Wednesday. Fingers crossed!!

We are back in on the 26th December. Drop in at some point and speak to Paul. Its a good setup and usually crowded!

Good gig in Village Inn,East Kilbride. The owner Paul is very much behind live music and it's a good venue to play. Pretty packed it suffers from the usual whizzed up punters so called dancing in front of the band. Had stand on the feet of the mike stand to save it getting knocked over a couple of times. One of our guitar players usually plays a Gibson Les Paul. He did the gig with some old £40 thing last night just in case.....For some reason some punters wanted drum sticks off the drummer at the end of the night. I think I might take a handful of old strings with me next time out....

Are you allowed to say that now....with all things being ''pc''.....We have two vocalists!....There!

Nice one Dave. Glad it all went well.....backing vocalist?...I think Lynn deserves a bit more respect than that! lol.
