  1. Here we have a black/black/maple with white blocks and binding from 1997. I have swapped the pups for toneriders but originals come with the bass. The previous owner also swapped the white guard for the current black one which looks much better in my opinion - again i do have the original somewhere. Furthermore the period correct thumbrest and chrome covers have been attached. Lovely growly tone with its currently Elites Groundwound strings. Weighs 9lbs8oz with its Ash body. The previous seller bought it from Bass Bros and attached in the pics is the original ad. Only selling as a lovely P bass has come up. If that goes ill look to withdraw this. I also have the Squier version in the exact same colour scheme (the VM 77 Jazz) which has an uber thin neck that ill also probably list. Collection would be from Bolton or could meet within reasonable distance. *more pics to follow once ive cleared storage*
  2. Tempted to see if i can shift my MIJ Jazz to fund this 🤔
  3. Once saw a GnR tribute band called Pistols & Petunias which i thought was witty
  4. Getting really quite bad GAS for a fireglo Ric bass.  Never really played one and dont know where this latest want has come from!?!

Rics are the best basses money can buy, so that's reason enough!

There can be variations in instruments, so it's a good idea to try one or two and see how you like them.

2006 on they have the push/pull pot for vintage sound, and adjustable pole pieces. Earlier Ricks have slimmer necks. Although my experience is limited to the three 4003 Ricks I've owned :)

Who knows where GAS comes from? But it does always seem to strike.... at some point.
As mentioned above, try a couple if you can. There are always a few on eBay, and some on here too. Keep an eye out for next time one comes up near you, or ask a friendly nearby fellow BC member if you can try theirs? Rics have their fans and their detractors - but a good one is a great bass.

  5. Tom bought a pedal off me and turns out we lived fairly close by. As luck would have it my lad had a footy match even closer by so a carpark meet was arranged and deal was done. Effortlessly smooth transaction and always good to meet a fellow BCer in person
  6. I watched Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds a few weeks back in Wigan. The bass player (Russ Pritchard) totes a very nice looking 60's P bass which sounded phenomenal! Backline seemed to be a Fender Bassman 8x10. For one song he also pulled out what appeared to be a 70's fireglo ric.....just in case anyone was interested
  7. Had one years ago and the best tone ive ever probably had. Since i sold mine ive bought a barefaced cab and cant help wondering if i could get away with one of these for live gigs. Have a bump for a top amp
  8. Twas mine once upon a time, i got it from Johnny Roadhouse music shop in Manchester. Great pedal and top guy to deal with
  9. Excellent condition other than velcro on the bottom. Comes with box and paperwork. Price includes UK postage
  10. As a regular drooler of Bass Bros site this P bass has REALLY fired up my interest! https://bassbros.co.uk/product/1975-fender-precision-bass-4/
  11. As you may have seen im looking to move on my precision bass for a more comfortable jazz bass. I bought the bass a few years back from Bass Bros where it was advertised as a 1984 MIJ 57 RI bass. Ive loved it ever since and swapped the original pups out but now im looking to trade a query has been raised. Whilst the neck date, serial and neck heel stamps match up there is a query around why it doesnt say ‘mij’ or ‘cij’ with the serial on the neck. Its not something ive noticed or queried before but now its been pointed out has made me do some digging. As per the pics the neck date states December 1985, serial number tallies up and the neck model stamp matches but why would it not note anywhere that it is MIJ/CIJ? ive also attached the orginal Bass Bros ad. Any thoughts/queries etc much appreciated https://bassbros.co.uk/sold-basses/1984-fender-japan-pb-57-precision-bass-reissue-mij/
  12. Frank reached out to me on my new cab day thread to say he had a cover that would fit perfectly and offered it at an extremely reasonable price posted to my door. It arrived a few days later looking immaculate after Frank had cleaned it up and it fits my Barefaced like a glove. Excellent BCer and a very pleasant and smooth transaction. Cheers Frank
  13. Sale fell through (no ones fault) so this is back up but only for a short time as i have been offered £825 trade in against a lovely MIJ jazz ive had my eyes on for some time. If this isnt gone by Friday then it gets traded
  14. Names skips my mind now but the company that took over from Wizard did a dark one. Think it was called the 74 or 84? Found it https://www.eternal-guitars.com/product-page/jb-84-jazz-bass-pickup
  15. After much umming and ahhing and withdrawing previously I've finally accepted that my hands and my band prefer my jazz bass. With funds needed its time to let go of probably my favourite bass I've had. The neck date pencil mark states this was made on 16th December 1985 in Japan. The bass is (for me) in the BEST P bass colour scheme - 2 tone sunburst, maple board and gold anodised pickguard. These originally came with a white plate which I have and will include in the sale but that classic late 50's gold guard look is just killer. Depending on your vintage this is very Duck Dunn or Alex James I swapped out the pups for the excellent Toneriders but again the originals will be included in the sale. Couple of tiny age related marks but absolutely nothing major. The bass has spent most of its life since I've had it wearing flats so frets are fine. It has the tugbar in period correct position and wears a chrome bridge cover. It has holes for a pup cover but I've never had one fitted as it gets in the way for me. Serial number on heel of the neck is E611214 for anyone wishing to check the online coders for authenticity etc. I don't have a gig bag or case available as I use a duo case when gigging. Collection only from Bolton or can do usual BC meetup within reasonable distance. No trades at the moment thanks. Pics to follow asap
  16. I had the chance to play through an Origin Effects Super Vintage last night at rehearsal albeit very briefly. Sounded very 'real valve' as opposed to the usual fizzy distortion a lot of the boxes put out. Very Ampeg-esque and sounded as close as ive got to my old SVT II non pro from a pedal (the Mesa Big Block sounded THE closest out of everything ive tried amp wise)
  17. All's well... Ive bought many things off BD and they have always been spot on. I've said it before on here though, they get VERY giddy price wise when anything 'vintage fender' comes into them
  18. So after two rehearsals over two nights im sold. The load in is so much easier, easy one hand carry for the cab. Tone wise, of course its nowhere near the volume of the Eden 4x10 it has replaced but its a very even and deep sound without getting muddy. When i play this via my Walkabout and my flats loaded P bass its thumpy and gives a bit of dirt when i dig in. When i click my Cali 76 compressor on it thumps REALLY hard, proper chest hitting stuff. Miles away from my previous Barefaced experiences with the honky mids and ice pick highs. Need to find a cover for it at some point as its definitely a keeper!
  19. interesting. Ive checked they haven't been removed on mine and there are no signs of previous feet like screw holes or glue residue
  20. After admitting im not quite the spring chicken i once was and ditching the big old valve heads for a Mesa Walkabout i started to look into options to lighten my cab carry. I had pretty much settled on a Fender Rumble V3 2x10 cab as my band doesnt play at excessive volumes and bigger venues get FOH help. Ive tried several barefaced cabs over the years (all borrowed or shared backline) and to be honest never really saw the hype - yes they were light but there seemed too much trade of tone wise. This was with their 12's and 10's cabs id tried. However, i see all the rave reviews and wondered was it me that was the issue? My problem was i always found them bitey, honky in the mids and ice picky highs so someone suggested their older 15's in particular the compact. I believe then is a gen 1 v2 (apparently) as it has two speakon inputs on the back Fast forward a while and one popped up on Bass Directs website so i took the plunge. At house volume it seems much better than my previous dealings but the proof will be at full volume band practice tonight where it will be paired with the walkabout and my flats loaded P bass.......will feedback asap P.S - A bit weird that these don't come with rubber feet...or any feet for that matter
  21. Rickenbacker 4005, Original 58 p bass or and early 60's p in burst/tort/rosewood
  22. Bought as i needed an urgent back up for a series of gigs i had from our local crack converters. It was subsequently given a clean to remove previous stickers, strung up with the fabulous Elites groundwound strings and had the pickguard replaced with a 70's style accurate one with correct thumb rest screw holes (can include original and a tort replacement in the sale). Furthermore the strat style knobs were replaced with vintage style jazz bass knobs. Sounds big and punchy and does the burpy thing too. The neck is fabulous both aesthetically and playability wise. Finally the pup covers appear to have been almost sanded, presumably to get the 'Duncan Designed' wording off the covers. I have spares if that bothers you. Only flogging as a cheap p bass has come up which is more my thing. If that sells then ill pull this. No gigbag im afraid as i use a duo type case. Collection would be from Bolton or could possibly meet up within reasonable distance. 2 'flaws' to note as per pics - there is a largish paint chip on the lower horn. Cant see it from the front and i has colours the visible wood in with black marker. Secondly on the arm contour is not a dint so much but a paint flake for want of a better word. Cant fee it when playing and if so inclined one of those needle type superglues would 'fix' it. The wood is smooth so seems to be a paint 'ding' only. Ive tried to picture as best i can. Pics to follow asap
  23. Never really got on with Barefaced cabs but a gen1 Compact has come up locally...hmmmm....

what ive tried so far i didnt like.  A few of their 12's and the two ten.  All seem honky, bitey and a bit brash/brittle.  Ive never tried their 15s and the amount of fans on here suggests it may be user error rather than poor cabs

  24. On hold ***back for sale, facebook timewaster***
  25. If the cab I've seen doesn't shift in the meantime i could do a bundle bargain deal of:- Ashdown 330 Head Spare pair of 12AX7 Valves Fitted roqsolid cover Eden 4x10 4 0hm cab heavy duty amp-speaker cable cup of tea/coffee on collection All for a bargainous £250
