  1. So now the gigs are rolling in its time to replace my Eden 4x10 with something lighter. Have blown a load of cash on pedals recently im working to a budget so the likes of Barefaced are out the equation currently. Volume wise i dont need oodles so i could probably get away with a 2x10 which has raised the option of the Fender Rumble 210 v3 cab. I love the silverface look and reviews seem decent. There is also the silverfaced Ashdown RM210 evo though ive been a bit ‘meh’ with previous ashdown cabs which also may rule out the local VS212 that has come up. Gigs are mainly small/medium pubs and band is not overly loud so i am convinced a 210 would cover most things. Does anyone have real life experience of the rumble 210 as a standalone cab? The VS212 is very cheap and local so again, anyone used one as a standalone live cab?
  2. Pretty much exactly my experience. A good old P bass or at a push a jazz fits me just fine, especially the MIJ ones from the 80's. My main squeeze if a MIJ 57 RI from 1985 that is the best p bass ive ever played. Back up is a cheapo Squire VM 77 which is lovely in itself. Doesnt stop me going off piste every now and again and GAS'ing over Rics, semi hollows, Spectors etc
  3. I do. They are definitely more ‘valvey’ but id caveat that by saying the ABM’s are far more flexible EQ wise
  4. A local cab has come up so i could potentially throw an eden 4x10 4ohm cab in with the head for an extra £100 if that tempts anyone?
  5. The Spyder series are the more valve like. They have genuine valve pre's (2 x 12AX7). The 330 has a MAG power section and the 550 is an ABM power section
  6. Thats a stunner!
  7. Mosfet Bass Drive incoming.  Looking for an 'always on' gritty tone rather than distortion so could be interesting!

Nice choice. Never used one but heard a few demos and they seem great.

  8. Hopefully somewhere gets the Walkabout gigbags in soon too!
  9. To end this sordid tale…. @wateroftyne was right. A spirtz of contact cleaner, wire straw brush and a good clean of the effects loop and jobs a good un. Leave this here for any future Mesa players with similar issues 👍
  10. Even though you would be mainly paying for the neck alone this seems like a reasonable price *bitsa warning* https://thebassgallery.com/collections/bass/products/fender-hybrid-1
  11. Cheers, will give it a try
  12. Bit of a strange 'fault' has appeared with my walkabout head. When i first power on and after the 'click' that means its been through its power up procedure the amp has little volume and what is there is very fuzzy. I have to move the volume knob a few times before it booms into life. Obvious thing i though was a good pot clean so i blasted it with some electrical contact cleaner and gave the pot a few spins but the issue seems to remain. Short of a new pot is there anything obvious i could be missing here? Once its fired up after the above issue it is faultless in operation
  13. 100w valve head and flight case for seemingly not many beer tokens?https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/276462801291?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=LpDT7UjhSqC&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=oN5XbKSRQjS&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  14. Trying to get into my walkbaout head to give the volume pot a blast of deoxit and the screws appear to be made from cheese?!?! Any turn of the screwdriver just seems to mash the crosshead up. When i eventually get them all out im looking to replace them with something with a bit more backbone. Does anyone know if these little black screws are of a standard size so i can just pick some u from a DIY shop or are they 'mesa specific' as it were?
  15. Didnt expect this from Nash! They are usually pretty authentic looking unlike builders like Limelight who just seem to attack things with a sander
  16. My all time bucketlist bass in the exact colour scheme too! Alas the wife would de-ball me 😢
  17. I see you have paired it with a walkabout at some point. As a walkabout owner who is also considering pairing it with a compact im tempted!
  18. Bump with trades added:- 1) decent lightweight cab (min 400w handling) 2) p bass - sunburst ideally and traditional fenderish 3) semi hollow bass
  19. All Tube SVT - if it wasnt for the weight id do EVERY gig with one Mesa BB750 - When you want the all tube sound and feel but without the full weight Ashdown Spyder - Best 'budget' amp around for fat clean valve tones
  20. I've always been under the impression the valve in ABM's doesn't do much. When I was valve rolling in my old ABM400 it sounded the same even when no valve at all was in the socket! Unlike my Ashdown Spyder where both 12AX7s had a huge affect on the tone and gain stage
  21. Fenders are definitely green but unless they have changed they are usually a much lighter almost fluorescent type green than those?
  22. Afternoon all. I recently noticed that the tone control isn't doing much at all on my 57 RI P bass. In the off position it has the expected nice deep, muddy 'Motown' type tone but within the smallest of turns it is a brighter tone that I would more expect at the end of the sweep and from that point on not much changes. I'm reasonably OK with a soldering iron and p bass controls are very basic but would my first point of call be the tone pot itself or maybe the cap? Pretty certain the controls are original so would be around 40 years old so absolutely that wear and tear could be at play here
  23. https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/product/fender-jazz-bass-gloss-black-1972-pre-owned/ Newly advertised Jazz over a BD. Certainly seems to have calmed down on his vintage fender pricing recently albeit still way out of my price zone
